Line cutters can truly be life savers when it comes to crab pots. I don’t begrudge anybody trying to earn a living from the sea. But when they don’t properly mark them and they are hard to see, the line cutters protect my boat.
Many crabbers have told me that they no longer make their pots highly visible because people go out and steal their catch out of the pots. So they start to camouflage their pots to prevent theft. It’s this camouflaging that presents the hazard to navigation.
It’s a no win situation. Just do your best to avoid them, but have line cutters to prevent damage to your boat.

The fishermen should leave a channel open for boaters to navigate through instead of a zig zap pattern like a World War 2 battleship avoiding a U boat. Mark’s going to have to get some scuba gear and do some underwater surveillance if you hit another pot. Lol. Another awesome video you two. Thank you

Crab pots! Not sure which looper it is, been watching a few of you right now, went home for holidays. Boat sat for several weeks, so they decided to have diver clean bottom. Came up with pot, buoy and rode. No telling how long he'd been dragging it. No damage to boat. Didn't notice higher fuel consumption, boat pulling to one side or "tugging" in shallow water. Must have caught on something other than prop or shaft

Wow! It's amazing how many people we've heard say they found crab pot lines on their props down the way. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your videos! I enjoyed watching and dreaming of our own loop! What is your draft? We draft 4’ 6” and would love to see the stops on the big bend route but I’m nervous of the shallow areas. Obviously timing with tides is important! Thanks for any input!

That is awesome you're watching and dreaming of your own loop! We draft 4'3". Timing with tides is really important if you want to do the big bend route. And staying in the channel. We also uploaded Bob's Tracks navigation overlay and use that along with Navionics, which has really helped. Here is more info on that bobicw.blogspot.com/p/how-to-download-tracks_28.html

We had no time to show more of Tarpon Springs, but it was a great place to grab a taxi and provision at nearby stores too. Here's the link from the Chamber of Commerce there for more exploration: www.tarponspringschamber.org/
