What were your findings on the comparison between the AlexLoop and the W4OP?

From my analysis using the WSPRlites I would say the W4OP loop had slightly better results with, on average, a stronger signal at each of the receiving stations. I'd also say that the W4OP loop was better made and felt better quality (I had the version with remote tuner). The W4OP loop I used did have a fault on it preventing it from being used on 40m but the remote tuner was definitely a nice feature (not sure if both loops have this option?). The Alex Loop certainly take the prize for low weight and compactness if you want something really portable and the model I used was a few years old now so designs may have improved. If they are comparable in price the W4OP loop would be my preference for fixed or portable where I don't have to carry the loop. For backpacking portable the Alex Loop would (and is) my go-to loop option.

I think the circuit board and software is a proprietary design from SOTABeams...I should have opened it up and taken a photo.

A A When you configure your WSPRLite, one of the options is ‘Run time (days)’ and this determines how long it will run without the need to restart the unit. This limitation is simply down the the accuracy of the internal clock and its ability to start the transmission near the start of a minute. Over time this clock can drift and eventually the WSPRLite will not start the transmit cycle within the required window. The clock on the WSPRLite classic should keep in sync for up to 30 days and the WSPRLite Flexi keeps good time for up to 45 days. If you want to use the beacon permanently you simply need to restart it periodically, say, on the first day of every month, to keep it operational.

@@g0pot Thank you, you answered my question to the exact point. Also, yes we are looking to have a simple full time beacon for our radio club this seems like a very good choice
