As much as I like top 10 lists, your format is more transparent. I've complained that reviewers don't want to share which new releases they played in total when they make their top 10 lists. Good point on 7th. Defenders would be the most underrated game of the year for me easily. It’s is funny how some games go under the radar. I think it is also ripe for expansion but might not get it due to its under the radar reception.
My #1 of 2024 is Undaunted 2200: Callisto - recommend it for multiplayer or solo. Also love Critical Care (indie game but awesome coop) and Jekyll & Hyde vs. Scotland Yard (another coop). HAHA
7th Citadel is much more of a linear game, set in a large world, where as 7th Continent was much more about exploration, where you could (and needed to) just wander about and figure out what's around you. 7th Continent felt like you had a little more control over what skills you wanted to be good with (the card in hand system was a little different). 7th Citadel definitely has a lot of feel bad moments, when you need to unlock a chest, but it's impossible without the one card which you haven't pulled out of your deck yet, and there's no way to get it out. If I were to house rule 7th Citadel, I'd let you fill up your hand with whatever cards you wanted from your deck at the start, so you had some say as to what skills you were prepared for. My guess is that Neon Gorilla would enjoy 7th Continent more, but it wouldn't fix all of the issues he brings up. If you really disliked one, the other one isn't going to change your mind enough to warrant dumping 25+ hours into it.
Well we knew where 7th Citadel would end up 😂. I enjoyed my play of the first threat, but actually regret backing 2 more in the new campaign. It is probably a B tier game for me and the 3 threats I already have will be enough.
To me, Andromeda's Edge does what Arcs sets out to do, but in a much more enjoyable way. Lots of conflict on a small board, some racing to get objectives to score points, limited resources that don't allow you to always just do everything you want. I do feel like AE would not be as good with 2 players. When I played it we had 5, and it was a long chaotic game, but everyone was always involved because of the size of the board, with some amazing upsets in battle, and cards that got played totally unexpectedly which flipped things around. I understand your critique, though, and can see how it could instead be a slow slog of a game, depending on the players and the amount of interaction going on.
@@Neon_Gorillawe found the cards led to very interesting moments, and the battles were so quick it never felt like it bogged down the game. That being said, I totally get your point of view, and it's nice to have your point of view on these games, because often we just hear the hype, and the negatives about these hot games get buried in the noise.
After 13 games of Arcs I both love and hate this game. I have moments where I want to play it again, and other moments where I want to light the box on fire. I do wonder if this wasn't a Cole/Leder games game, would it get the praise? How many people would actually love this game? Bias is a thing.
@@dcrbdh I think dynamic game states that constantly evolve and include many moving parts are polarizing. I think this game shines when playing with like minded people who love it. It is not a game that promises close finishes or has players limp along and score points no matter what. @@Neon_Gorilla Arcs reminds me of Barrage somewhat. It's like how you describe FCM. I've totally had games where I got crushed and had fun still. I've also won games and not enjoyed it as I've had to kick someone and then keep kicking them. I am a former 40k player, so I'm pretty comfortable with crushing and being crushed. The issue seems to because the game is so random that even if you can identify your mistake, it's kinda meaningless as the board state will be so different next time you feel like you have learned very little. I've played this with a lot of different people and that seems to be a factor in enjoyment. Root is good with the same play group who understand that game and table dynamic. Cole's designs seems to depend so heavily on table dynamics that it can hamper or hinder depending on who you're playing with. I've had games of Arcs where it seemed that the players seemed determined to target me from the onset and games where they understood enough to know when to work with me and when not to. Hence some games are fun and I love it, and some are games I hate. Then throw on randomness with dice and cards..... oooo boy.
@@dcrbdh That makes sense. BTW I love Barrage for many of the same reasons I love ARCS actually. I haven't played enough to know if there is a path out of every situation you find your self in but I do feel like there is more agency then some might guess if you just judged the randomness off of the trick taking and dice rolling. I don't think every experience will be a 10 and to your point it very much depends on how others interact with the game. @@Neon_Gorilla I agree, more deterministic games it's easier to evaluate play and it's less susceptible to player variance. I think if I had a consistent group to play Arcs with it would help. I had a similar experience with 7th Citadel. After my first play, I thought it was a clear contender for my GOTY. After each subsequent play, however, I enjoyed it less and less, until I eventually stopped mid campaign. But as far as your opinion of Andromeda’s Edge, how dare you sir! HOW…DARE…YOU… Jk, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, and I appreciate hearing yours. Except for your one on Leviathan Wilds. What a load of poppycock!
It is pretty simple for me…I would rather play Voidfall for a 4x Euro and either Slay the Spire or Defenders of the wild over Leviathan. I think both games got a ton of hype and my expectations were unaligned with reality.
@ I would rather play Voidfall as well, and to be fair, I’ve only played AE solo, which adds a great spatial puzzle to the game. I’ve yet to play it multiplayer.
Man, I love Fromage 😢😢😢 Surprised you had Harvest so high. To me it feels very overpriced for what it is. Also surprised how much you like defenders of the wild, I've heard very meh things about it
Fromage probably deserves a second chance. Go play harvest on BGA it’s great. Defenders and Harvest serve a purpose. Both represent an entry level game in important genres that I also find fun to play. These are staples in my collection. Neither are best in class and when compared against like games might end up in B tier.
Andromeda’s Edge at C but Creature Caravans at B? LOL Ummm, no. Just no. Creature Caravans is a random mess with zero player interaction. It’s a D for me and I don’t understand the hype around it. Artifacts, Inc is similar and plays WAY faster.
to each is own...AE makes me want to fall asleep 3/4 in.....B tier is an average/good game which is what CC is....AE is an overhyped mess, that feels fun an handful of times per game ;)
@@Neon_Gorilla I put in B Tier and said all B tiers had the potential to go up and down. I might actually put it into A now becuase if you dont play the long version of the game I think its actually slightly better. @Neon_Gorilla you should! it's definitely not the most complex game out there but I find it very relaxing and fun
@ I just played on BGA :)
HOW…DARE…YOU…
Jk, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, and I appreciate hearing yours.
Man, I love Fromage 😢😢😢
Surprised you had Harvest so high.
@@Neon_Gorilla actively playing a game of Harvest on BGA lol. Enjoying it so far, just feels like the retail should be 35-45 MSRP not 60
Andromeda’s Edge at C but Creature Caravans at B? LOL Ummm, no. Just no. Creature Caravans is a random mess with zero player interaction. It’s a D for me and I don’t understand the hype around it. Artifacts, Inc is similar and plays WAY faster.
to each is own...AE makes me want to fall asleep 3/4 in.....B tier is an average/good game which is what CC is....AE is an overhyped mess, that feels fun an handful of times per game ;)
Time stamps for each game would have been great
This was purposeful sorry
Time stamps good for skipping around, but skipping around is something the mythical algorithm doesn't take kindly to.
Make an Andromeda video just so you have to play it more and realize you should have swapped unconscious mind and Andromeda in your rankings :P
I saw where it landed on your tier ranking. Don’t act like you loved it:)
It’s another “fine” game. The video will be a copy paste of leviathan wilds
@@Neon_Gorilla I put in B Tier and said all B tiers had the potential to go up and down. I might actually put it into A now becuase if you dont play the long version of the game I think its actually slightly better. Could eventually go S tier but for that I'd need a multiplayer gruop that likes that kind of game.
strictky speaking i don't have an S Tier released in 2024 that isnt a standalone expansion or actually released in Q4 of 2023. The games that released in Q4 2024 are too new for me to put in S-tier, they need more plays. But Arcs and WC need to release in german before I can get enough plays out of them that are not solo
