The advanced Maintenance class is well worth it. I attended this course years ago. You are taught amoror level skills and techniques. When you finish the course, you go home with a special grade Gurand that you built from the ground up from a stripped receiver.

As of the making of this video, I also found out that the CMP changed their annual limit of bolt action rifles. Each customer is allowed to buy only ONE bolt action rifle per year. There have been M1903’s and M1917 bolt action rifles within the last few months at the CMP South Store. Check out the CMP South Forums for more information about inventory.
You may want to double check the one bolt rifle limit per year since the CMP auction site still lists one model of each bolt typed per year (KRAG, M1917, M1903s) in the disclaimers, and in the past, those limits would also apply to in store purchases.
I found it when I opened the CMP South Forums post about rifle prices. It states this “1 bolt gun per YEAR regardless of type (9/28/23).” I also saw it in another post but I can still call tomorrow just to double verify
I live in Ohio and frequent the North store. They just started selling 1903a3s. I will be keeping my ear to the grindstone on the North store forums for 1917s. I'm guessing that it will be a similar situation with the 1903s where we will have to wait several months and then in spring or summer, the North store will have some 1917s, that is if there is still some more to go around.
Yea I’m sure there’s a lot of folks up north going for the M1917’s. We just never know how the CMP decides to disperse the various rifles out to the stores
I had a beautiful 1917 in the 1980s. It cost me 100 bones at a gun show in 1984. I got bored with it and sold a year or two after. I wish i had her back.
She had a bright bore, light patina on the stock, and no rust. The only reason it was 100 and not 150 is that it was missing a stamped sheet metal retaining ring that held on the rear upper hand guard. A month or two later, I was riding my bicycle through the neighborhood during trash pile pick up. I skidded to a halt because in a trash pile was a rusty P17 Enfield action with a barrel split like a banana. Clinging to it was the very part I needed. It was providence, I swear. 1903 springfields were the popular rifles at that time. P14 and P17 Enfields were no big deal and could be found regularly in pawn shop rifle racks for 1 to 200 dollars.
Any idea where this batch of 1917s is from? Figure it’s probably from the Philippines returns but I have no idea. Might have a better idea when I bring one home.
The 1917s, as far as I know, are from VFW and American Legion posts across the U.S. I got a Garand from them one time that had the Post number stamped on the stock
...membership in the GCA..would br worth twice the 25 dollar annual fee..thsnx for the tip on 30 Csrbine ammo...just oaid 50 bux a box for French 30 cal ammo..prolly corrosive akso..
Yea the French ammo could corrosive. Might have to Google search the stamp to find out. Almost all surplus 30 carbine is not corrosive, which is definitely one less thing to worry about when cleaning after a range day 😁
These are not sought after because of their practical use… they are mainly bought up by collectors and history enthusiasts. There are also some that buy these for vintage competition matches or occasional hunting.

The M1917 is an amazing gun. My parents got me a 1918 Winchester for Christmas last year. Sucker is a tack driver.

I stopped by the south store saturday morning , they had 10 -1917s and 2 -1903s. One of the 03s cam home with me!

1k and 1100? Ouch. I picked up 2 1917’s this past year one for 750, another for 850. Good shape too
