These guys played a frat party at IU my freshman year in 2001. Best concert I've ever been to. They rocked the crowd for 3 hours, no break. Sheriff's dept was working security. As soon as they took the stage everybody started lighting up and it never stopped. Cops just let it happen. It was some kind of harmony I've never seen before or since.
Been a metalhead my whole life... This is in my top three songs ever, and the one time I saw J5 was the best gig I've ever been to, and the best crowd atmosphere I've been part of.
Oasis to J5 is certainly an interesting leap. I didn’t even hear about them from *anyone* until Quality Control came out, which I still think is their finest work.

Have you ever tried to apply the rhyme scheme in this to your regular life- say you’re grinding out a tough job? And you have to wake up say 5am and find a way through the day? Use this track through a Smartphone with earphones- you use the busy lyrics to brevity but poise. So say you got dish plates that need a flash wash? You use the emphasis in the music whilst staying happy getting loads done- you remind yourself the street is the street when you head out? You aren’t listening to the street before you hit it? You go to work clean and tidy? You wonder how when you got back your entire home looked better than when you left? Plus the excersise gets you naturally happy through endorphins yes? So once you apply this every morning for a while you’re returning every night to a place you hadn’t imagined could look so nice. You haven’t really worked at all. In the process of enjoying the track you’ve found a great peace when you get home. Wow you say? How did that happen? You’re astonished by the results and you find you have zero to do after one week. You’re out of the need to seek antidepressants because this song has built in that antibiotic antidepressant into your system so you’re really living a happier life but not forcing happiness at all- use the beats and clipped economic rhythms to do the brief bits of this and that on the do do do’s you maybe swipe up your cellphone sitting quietly so it’s more utilitarian- you save money. How, you say to yourself, do I not need that new device I was going to pay for? You don’t if you apply this immediately!
@@Zachajaws10 Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize I needed to mansplain that my current "mood" meant my wanting to listen to some old Jurrasic 5 while I did homework. Is that better?

I get what you’re getting at but if you think back to when this came out the rap music on the radio sucked then too. It’s always been about the underground even in 2020... all the way to 3030 and beyond :)

The lyrics are genius and the splitting of vocalists too- this is called perfect teamwork in hip hop- everyone is carrying the load- the music is broken up with the background sound of a record being played on a real turntable- these guys are about reality without prejudice- that is to say they know injustice ok? But there’s no my bitch this my bitch that etc. That sentiment wasn’t their game at all- they ground out the tough knocks but did it dealing with injustice through creativity. That’s what sets them apart. Their aim, it strikes me was to literally instil a sense of responsibility through music- encouragement of black kids or anyone to go with the flow not physically fight the system. It’s talent streaming to be honest. I’ve worked on the streets with numerous black kids as a white male and done the legwork to get the idea out of their heads that arrested development is a good plan for life! It isn’t!
What everyone seems to miss in this track is two simple lyrical statements:, ‘no harm is done’ ‘I represent the real to the end of it’ That is to say again any anger in this is offset by linguists. ‘Amen to it’ then it kicks in: ‘We were sitting on the step ya know’ I have a duty of care over people in reality!

J5 opened a lot of eyes. Included classic orchestra instruments too. Theyre so underrated.

You are so damn lucky.

Great song, my buddies and I would always listen to J5 when wakeboarding or snowboarding.
Listening to this makes you think ... what happened to hiphop?
Really does man
Corruption happened.
Corporations 😥
I was just thinkin the same thing while listening to some Westside Connection. Yeah the 90s was the shit.
It makes me think “what happened to Cosby?!”
Love these style of hip hop

Oasis to J5 is certainly an interesting leap. I didn’t even hear about them from *anyone* until Quality Control came out, which I still think is their finest work.
It's impossible to say what the greatest song of all time is, but this one is definitely up there contesting that spot.
2020 - Corona in our heads - oldschool's got our hearts.

This is what is known as real music. The drum sequences, the sick sample, great emcees, and also the sound it is.
Love this old style of sampling. Nostalgic for sure
Most under rated hip hop group ever in my opinion. They don't ever get a mention in that conversation but for me they are top 5 easily
Brings back memories I would never remember without listening to this song.
Seen them in glasgow 20 odd years ago , still love a listen to the j5 .
this is SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO underrated. CUT CHEMIST too. Master on the 1s and 2s.

[Intro]
We were sitting out on a step, you know
[Verse 1]
Now I'm a say this one time boy and that's my word
We rockin' shots and not fire through the Hindenburg
The contribution is clearYou add water to boneAnd get the Jurassic 5 on the microphone
Now if you like the tone
And how the harmony's done
And the sucka MC's die before they've begun
Well I'd like to know ifYou've got the notion'Cause we're number one
I'm not trying to say my style is better than yoursI'm just on some other shit
I'm all about the beats and the lyricsSo when you hear it you can feel it
The vibe is energized by the presence of my spirit
No interference we persevere
The purpose is clear
We're here to leave your ear hurtin' severe
You're lurking in fear
'Cause we take it back like Robin Loxley
Rockin' from country sides to spots where hard rocks be
I often wonder if these MC's even know how it feelsTo dedicate they whole life to this mic of steel
It's not about the billsThat's not keeping it realA lot of tight rappers out here ain't got no deals
We appeal to the brothers with flow finesse
'Cause it's the 100 watt bloodshot Game of Death
'Cause we're protected by the covenant of words and beats
Rewind and feel the heatRecline and take a seat

Just to get the right blend'Cause it's schizophrenic of the pathway to livin'I fell into the deep end
You shouldn't have told meThe pyramids can hold meSo now a contest is what you owe me
Pull out your beats pull out your cutsGive us a mic, whattupAnd we gon' tear shit up

With a deep breath with my Chop-Sui style
'Cause I'm a lyrical chef

A hundred and fifty times over silk with lead
While y'all drink the SimilacMy rhymes are breast-fedNo artificial nipplesI flip the real skills
