The first time i ever threw it, i caught big fish on 3 casts in a row. I rigged it weightless on a 4/0 hook. It reminds me a lot of the senko but just with a faster fall. When it falls on slack line, that tail just wags slowly, like a raccoon tail, hence the tanuki bait. Its actually a pretty cool bait. It fishes good in the same places youd fish a football jig. If you keep the rod tip down and twitch it like a jerkbait, the darts and glides side to side off the bottom, similar to that deps bullflat
I gotta get those screw locks same thing one fish done but it is a great bait and I’ve been using the small one on a jig works great for this cold water
I love the Yamatanuki, caught my PB the first time i ever fished with it. A screw lock is an absolute must though, without it the plastic rips from just casting.
I haven't used this type of bait, but would definitely give it a shot. I find that I like trying different baits so as not to get into a rut fishing the same stuff over and over again. Cheers brother and a Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
I would try a durable plastic version of it certainly (missile baits perhaps). I like the gliding action. Things like the hover rig, and overall gliding presentation - something new to show the fish.
After hearing you describe mend it .. the way you said it smells made me think of liquid bandage . hook slot tore up after catching two with a 4/0 I just realized I have a ton of 45 degree hooks here up to 6/0 for the brush jig mold and screw locks
Wendell got me hooked on these. I tried the Yamamoto Yamatanuki on super hot day , nailed 2 bass in same area right I tied it on. I glued the EWG to the head , that helped. They are a pretty cheap bait but I can't find in the store so I have to order them at Tackle Warehouse
Love to see another voice over video. I only tried the Yama Tanuki only once, i used the Mustad Grip pin 5/0 hooks. The plastic held for 3 to 4 fish each. It is a legit Debo Dink magnet, i think I emptied the pond of all the dinks.
Put a wacky ring over the top and it’ll help with blowouts a little. I don’t even throw a Senko anymore since I got these. Let em sink, pop em, so many ways to fish. VMC ring hooks work great.
This looks like it would be a great flipping bait or jig alternative. I understand the idea of throwing it on heavy fluorocarbon but part of me wonders if going braid to leader would help with the numbness of not having lead or tungsten to transmit bottom feel.
I like the yamatanuki with a 5/0 ewg and use mend it to repair the torn baits. When I tried them with the screw lock ewg's, the screw lock tears out a little chunk of the tip so they don't really repair well with mend it, probably could the melted plastisol to repair them if you're using screw locks.
Haven't fished it, was going to get a couple packs for my younger cousins in HS who would get a kick out of fishing a "poop" bait, but didn't get out very often in 2023 due to work. Maybe give it a try next year now that the faint ice has shown up on the small ponds.
Reminds me of a tube only weedless. I've caught a ton of fish on tubes. Erie Darters are similar as well and tear apart just as easy, caught a ton of fish on them as well. I will try, thanks for the info Happy Thanksgiving!
I really like this lure, I've had much success with it. I rig mine a little different because I'm pulling them through grass and pads. I started with the screw type 4/0 EWG, but it rips the lure so much on a bite, I'll be getting some of that Mend it. I use a regular 4/0 EWG, and found it doesn't tear up as much, and I also don't place the hook in the slot, I place the hook through the thick part and juxtapose the point. In the slot I pick up more pad stalks and grass. I'll probably use the slot again when the pads and grass go dormant for the Winter.
I use the Ryugi Pierce Weighted Screwlock Wide Gap Hook and the TC Ryugi screw lock wide gap. They work better than the owner in my opinion, and the weighted one gives it some pretty nice action and gets it down there and allows it to dance around. and I use the 4/0 .
Hey D! Thanks for doing the review on this. I picked up 3 packs before the 2023 season and never even opened them. Your explanation and suggestions are better than any of the other videos that I have watched thus far. 6th Sense Panorama video upcoming??? As always, thank you for doing what you do for us in the "regular guy" fishing community.
I like the look of that plastic and the first thing I thought of was Sqidwords Nose lol but it seems to work well and also if you get tired of that amazing looking Reel please let me know, I still haven’t found the POS who jacked all my gear lol …. Great Video as usual my friend thank you and Semper Fidelis to DebosFishing
I used the little one as a ned and it spun my line to the point it was un usable in about 10 min. So use a swivel. I didn't have any luck on it but i need to try the big ones.
One thing I've though about to get a little more feel is using 30 or 40lb braid but I worry about hindering the fall rate. Anxious to try the 💩 again next spring.
This bait is a bank fisherman dream .i use a mustad 91768 30 degree jig hook with a screwlock. 4/0 with a extra large scewlock for the 3.5 and a 1/0 with a large scewlock for the 2.5.the 2.5 is great for bfs
I don't have a ton of confidence bottom fishing with soft plastic. I'll probably have to do it next early spring. But I'm getting some power finesse hard lures for next season.
I’ve had zero luck with the Yamamoto version and killed em on the Deps Cover Scat. Not sure why. the Cover Scat has saved me from a skunk on multiple occasions when even the Senko wasn’t getting me any bites. And I’m not a JDM snob by any means. And yes you gotta use screw lock hooks otherwise nose does blow out after a few feesh
I used the yamatanuki over the summer as a substitute to the cover scat. I like the action on the 3.5 compared to the 2.5. The 2.5 seems a but too small for my applications. Durability on these is poor as you mentioned. I think I prefer the cover scat over the yamatanuki. Price is better on the yamatanuki but durability is worse. I picked up some spin nuts to compare to these. Caught my PB on the cover scat so these lures do work. Great lure/category to talk about.
Have the yamatanuki as well as the cover scat, caught a few fish on both, mostly used it for skipping docks, very interesting you are using a Dobyns 5 power for it, I live dangerously so I was throwing them on a Champion 703 and #14 sniper , I have a Champion XP 735 , may try that out with some heavier line , btw, I think the Missile Baits Bomba has a slower fall so may pick them up for skipping
I know they work, no doubt about it. but I'm not going to waste money on what is essentially a clawless craw. I'd rather fish a craw until it gets to that point.

Really dig this review format, straight to the point, no fluff and informative, keep these coming Debo!
Right on time.
Good video Debo, I got to get some to try. Thanks
I can’t not see a manatee every time I look at it!
Great video, thanks Debo!
I used it over the summer and really enjoyed it. I started with the screw lock hooks and didn't lose many. It cast a mile and accurate as well.
I would definitely try it once spring comes.
Great lure. I stand by them. They’re fantastic. They straight catch fish. Weighted, weightless. Works awesome. I crushed bass on it all fall.
I gotta get those screw locks same thing one fish done but it is a great bait and I’ve been using the small one on a jig works great for this cold water
Haven't used the 3.5" size yet but definitely gonna get a few packs for next year. I've used the 2.5" size and love it on a ned rig!
Bro there's a 2.5 too? They really covered everything they could with this thing huh? Holy crap🤣🤣
I used it over the summer here in Nashville and it crushed excellent skipping bait as well
I love the Yamatanuki, caught my PB the first time i ever fished with it. A screw lock is an absolute must though, without it the plastic rips from just casting.

Great video debo! Gonna go grab some mend it to keep on the boat next tournament season.
Good luck!

Yep, I think that would help with the sensitivity!

Put mend it on the screw before you thread it in.
Good point, I'll have to see if I have that problem. Switching to the XL screws may help!

I think I would use it on a Dobyns 734. I think the softer action would help with the hook sets and staying connected.
Reminds me of a tube only weedless. I've caught a ton of fish on tubes. Erie Darters are similar as well and tear apart just as easy, caught a ton of fish on them as well. I will try, thanks for the info Happy Thanksgiving!
of all the gravity baits on the market, this is the one that really has my interest. great breakdown Debo!

I’ve had great success on all sizes. The floating version is my favorite though. Fishes just like a super fluke.

Glad I could help! Appreciate the kind words!
I use a punch skirt with it sometimes and it works great
That's a cool idea!

I've been interested it trying this thing out. The depps poop bait seams a little more durable but I think I'd probably pick up both to try.
One thing I've though about to get a little more feel is using 30 or 40lb braid but I worry about hindering the fall rate. Anxious to try the 💩 again next spring.
I have them but haven’t caught anything on em so idk… but i can see various situations where they would work

Debo, cool planted tank! You should do a video on it.
My stepdad swears by it lol but I still just can’t pull away from the wacky rig 😂
Wacky is hard to beat!
Great video you talk to me in the train it I’m adding Yamamoto’s to my cart right now. Thank you.
Hahaha I hope you catch some big feesh!

Gonna have to give them a try! Thanks for sharing this Debo! Hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Same to you!

Yep, grabbed those Bombas too so we'll see how they do!
Great review. I've purchased a few of these baits but have not used them yet. Can't wait until spring to give them a try! Thanks for sharing!
Looks like a good dead stick bait, a fat exclamation point🤠
Color the tip of the tail black. Increased bites for me.
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🦃🦃🍽️🦃🍽️🦃
Same to you!
Debo good video, lots of tips
Many many thanks!
I just picked these up to try. I was gonna treat it like a bulky NED and in current.
I got my nephew on his first bass with these
Awesome!
Alternative title yamataNUKI or yamataDOOKIE
Id like your opinion on the missile baits version
I’ve tried them a little bit haven’t caught any on them yet
Looks like a Bowling pin to me 😂 fudge stripe would bite it!! I've yet to try them so I cant knock em. Definitely will catch fish though!!
Not near as good as a drop shot 😅
@@DEBOSFishing 🧐hmm The Dookieshot🤔 Might be🔥
You must use an O-ring in order to prevent the break of the Head of the bait.
I would try if I could come across when it sorta cheap or something near me. I don’t think anyone in my area has so it would probably work
I tried this lure thinking there's no way this thing is going to catch anything...I was wrong LOL
what's up Debo!
I wonder, if using a straight hook will help with durability
Been having great luck on the Yamatanuki, but I've really been crushing them on the Yamamoto/Daiwa Neko Macho worm rigged weightless on an ewg hook.
Debo mate I've been using the berkley gilly for a while, especially the 110 size and I waa wondering if you've tried it and what you think of it.
I tried the gilly but didn't catch anything on it
Don’t think I have any room for that in my tackle bag
I'm that way too. Time for some giveaways this Saturday!
I’ve never fished the Yamatanuki
Any thoughts on extending life by wacky rigging it?
Owner haymaker hook?
They're decent. Like all Yamamoto baits, they last one fish before they're unusable.
I haven't tried it so I don't know what
I noticed you texas rigged it without a bullet weight. How does this compare to the bandito bug without the bullet weight?
Also, do you have a kickback link for the mend-it stuff?
I know they work, no doubt about it. but I'm not going to waste money on what is essentially a clawless craw. I'd rather fish a craw until it gets to that point.
All I can say is thanks don’t use it
@@JPBASSIN301 or and hear me out, don't say a damned thing! K bye.
Wouldn’t you want to fish this with a spinning combo?
I slayed them with them but they do look goofy af….durability is terrible but expected from this company.
Liked it but so fragile
Haven’t thrown the poop baits yet . Definitely look interesting. Hopefully Yum will come out with a more budget friendly version.
I see @WendallFishing using this a lot
Yep, shouted him out!
I tried this lure thinking there's no way this thing is going to catch anything...I was wrong LOL
