I was at almost every show of this tour. My mom had just died and I needed a break from reality. My band had played with JD before and they had stayed at my house so we were friendly. We had also done a split with Usurp but I hadn't met them until then but became friends. It was a surreal few weeks.
I think "Bird Call" highs really work best low in the mix. The lack of enunciation makes them settle well there, whereas they sound way goofier when they're front and center and you can hear the strain and squeak (e.g. The Sawtooth Grin - I like them quite a bit, but Rich Lombardi sounds like a raging middle schooler when his vocals are so upfront and loud).

These guys always inspired me more than anyone else, specifically because of the Bassist/Vocalist never using a mic. I always thought that was the coolest shit in the world. Thank you so much for posting these videos. These are rare and legendary pieces of footage..
i was 9 years old when this performance happened but have watched this video many times. checking back in after my 4th time seeing the reunited band, and they are still so sick live in the current iteration it's insane. i'm not sure why nick is no longer in the band but sean leary is a perfect complement to their sound, and they sound amazing. everyone should go see them.
@@ShanevsDCsniperr for sure, nick was such a crucial part and missed dearly BUT I could not agree more for Sean Learys placement. PERFECTLY in place for the feedback and dissonance Jeromes Dream is known for.
till this day bands are still shrieking with no mic with their backs turned to the crowd, and I know many 90s bands did that but I think JD and specially this video were what stuck out the most, it's wild how influential they were
Life changing footage. First saw it before I even liked the band and to revisit it with more and more love each time is such a bittersweet experience. Glad they’re back at it though. It’s crazy to see a band come back after a decade and be doing the same thing they’ve always done. And I don’t mean that they’re new music is redundant, I mean they’re always on the cutting edge of punk with their vision of hardcore and somehow impeccable cohesion as a group. Hope to see them soon when it’s safe :\
im 35, i promised i would never hold onto a time and say "its not like that anymore"... im still not that guy, but boy were we lucky to be around for all those bands

Jesus. Did Jeff Smith just hate his vocal cords? This hurts to watch. The music is amazing, and I'm certain you couldn't move like that tethered to a mic stand, but Goddamn.
If I remember correctly I think Jeff was doing it no mic for some time because when Jerome's Dream played their first show, Jeff's teeth kept hitting the mic so he kicked it away and just did the rest of the show and after (until he had to stop using this approach of vocals for obvious reasons).
there are still bands with vocalists who do vocals like this consistently till this day and they all seem to be doing fine, I think ppl overstate how crazy these vocals are, Jeff likely didnt have proper technique since this was before the internet and that must be why he had to stop screaming like this, but if you do whistle register properly you'll be fine
This is like my tenth time watching this and only just now noticed the dude’s Op Ivy shirt in the beginning. I’m curious as to how he got it because I don’t think you could easily get any Op Ivy merch in 2000 unless you saw them when they still played or they were already putting that stuff on the internet even then.

hey dude, amazing footage.. i can't believe you have this. i never thought another video of this band would be posted again. i see usurp synapse members in this video, so i'm guessing they played too. do you have that set by any chance? thank you so much.
the vocalist had a hairstyle that closely resembles the "emo" hair of today. Just curious if this band had anything to do with such a shitty trend. I hope not.

Jeff, what bass did you use in this video it looks fucking sick
@@shoebill13I know the band posted about it on their insta page but can’t remember.

Ive always imagined how insane his scream would've sounded through a microphone, its chilling enough hanging over the music the way it does.

I must say, this is incredible quality for March 2000.
This is the type of energy i wish all bands had
As much as I feel this, i don't think anyone will ever have the energy these bands of this era had. These bands were on a mission.
no microphone, wow. awesome.
I think there was one of those “pop” boy band mics on him

Drummer from Usurp Synapse knows all the songs.
Lovely.
Yeah you can tell the singer is a big fan too. Good times
I just saw JD last night in Cleveland and talked to Nick about this show. He's a super nice dude.
So what they he say about this show
the drummer for usurp synapse is one of the best parts of this whole video
anyone else going through these live performances after hearing all the hype about new announcements from Jeromes Dream? Because I sure as hell am.

Based on where everyone is located, it would be extremely hard/impossible for Nick to continue with the band. It was an amicable leave.

he actually passed out in studio recording the split w/ orchid, which is why some of their songs on streaming services have weird non-screamed vocals
