Just adding one more tip to the key binds. I remapped the caps lock key to a random key I can't reach with my fingers in the wasd position and bound an ingame function to it. To remap I used SharpKeys
I use shift space and space for jump so no matter if I’m pressing space for my keybinds I’m not limited on when I can jump also shift tab is an easy self target for me since tab is how you change targets anyway

Daaang mate, you forgot the squiggly button next to the number one key, that's what I use for important procs like execute, or even just mounting or quick bear form on alt + ~, but I personally can't use my ctrl key, or my shift key for secondary binds unfortunately due to physical reasons, so if someone used that key, it would make it hard to use shift modifier, but I also have the corsair showed in the video, buuuut I've only mapped a two of the 12 buttons lol, so those are what I will end up mapping onto them as bindings, shift 1, shift 2, etc, hopefully shift f keys if there aren't any reactions or anything there, like saaay alt f4 lol.. but I currently my mouse buttons as the number pad, which sucks since I have to have numlock on for them to work, if not, then I spam for nothing, but also have those binds in wow alt + number pad keys. My settup is really jankey, and I had planned to redo it today, so this vid came out at the perfect time
I'm quite proud of this one myself: #showtooltip /cast [spec:1,talent:3/1] Maim; [spec:2/3/4,talent:3/1] Typhoon; [spec:1/2,talent:3/2] Incapacitating Roar; [spec:3/4,talent:3/2] Maim;[spec:1/2/3,talent:3/3,@cursor] Ursol's Vortex; [spec:4,talent:3/3] Incapacitating Roar It's a druid macro that no matter which spec you are in or which affinity you choose it will cast the affinity CC, either typhoon, maim, incapacitating roar or ursol's vortex.
Only critique I have is that there is no mention of the quick ui bind that's brand new this patch as well. When in the keybindings ui, click the second button on the bottom left to bind keys without having to browse the old clunky panel :)
@@madzzzey Ohh, you mean that feature that has been in any action bar addon since like start? And in fact blizz just knows that no one uses their shitty bars so they haven't implemented it before now :))
When I started keybinding, I would bind my top 4 abilities, play until I feel they are instinctive then proceed to the next 4 abilities and so on. Binding everything at once was too overwhelming for me.
Why not bind 3verytbijg and just press the binds when you're ready? Why wait to bind more and got though the annoyance if binding new things multiple times
Got a couple that I love that I'd recommend to everyone: CTR (or SHIFT)+W: Autorun; MouseUp and MouseDown: your two most commonly used interrupts or stuns (I use CTR+scroll for camera zooms).
@@khaznah823 Denial .. @colbyElmore i am glad the corruptions are done and gone BYE BYE BFA in M+ DH were top with twilightand in pvp you were top 5 if not 3 with all the gushing and the OP weps .. wwelcome shadowlands ( hope we dont get the same OP system of trinkets and crazy "specail skillz " ) have a good month yall
More DH hate typical. It’s just as easy for me to play a windwalker or a ret as it is to play a DH we get it the class doesn’t have a lot of buttons. Let’s face it dps classes r easy tho. All the leftover BFA DH hate get it outta your system. DK only got hate for wrath and legion is far gone time to move on.
I love this one. Most of the binds that I've been using for the past years are similar to what you describe here, and that's after years of tedious testing. This is a really good resource for any new players! Big thumbs up! 😁 PS: never thought about using Shift+V for secondary stuns (on alts, since main only had one stun), so I'll be stealing that!
I really enjoyed how excited Bellular was throughout the video. You can really tell he, Matt + the team genuinely put a lot of effort into the video. I also geek out at color-coded spreadsheets. Thank you for delivering quality content!
One keybinding of mine I love is my F keybind. I usually put it as a big spender. On my ret pala that means Templar's verdict. Then I use my buttons on my mouse for smaller generator abilities. This means the big pay-off spender feels special, because I activate it in a totally different way compared to my generators.
F has been my interrupt for all classes since I started, it's probably the most "on-time" and instinctive bind of any game I've had. Mouseclicks I personally like as gap closers/disengages.
I also like to use macros for "whoops, I forgot" functionality. For example: kill command on my hunter will summon my pet if it isn't out already. Several spells on my druid will pop me to animal form, because if I had to break form for an emergency heal I really don't have time to find my shapeshift button whilst panicking.
@@Andelai2137 It takes a little bit to get used to, but it is incredible once you're comfortable with it. No more using your left pinky to try to press awkward combinations of buttons and give yourself carpal tunnel.
I don't know if I am weird but I use ESDF instead of WASD. Having my left hand in a more central position on the keyboard allows me to reach more keys for the quick skills.
ESDF gang checking in. Using F for a movement key is great since it’s a home key and has that raised bump on it. This really helps me keep track of exactly where my fingers are without ever looking at the keyboard.
ESDF is clearly superior as it centralises your rotation keys on 3 (leaving 1, 2 and 4, 5 open either side) plus opens up W, Q and A as ability buttons.
"Have you tried hitting Alt and 4 while moving?" That's why MMO players jump. to relief themselves of holding down a movement button to hit a key combo while maintaining directional momentum Or just auto run on a mouse key
That is exactly why I use mouse buttons for instant cast abilities while strafing. That way I can easily strafe in either direction and comfortably hit the button. Before that it was hard for me to press certain keyboard keys while strafing in a certain direction.
BLOCK NUM (on numeric pad) does this by default keybinding. Also pressing both buttons or the mousewheel button as a button instead of scrolling. Aditionally you can set the game to be click to go
a tip from me, if you have a mouse with 2 side buttons, download the software to change what those 2 buttons do. Change them to be left control and left alt key You now have 1-5, shift-1-5, alt1-5, ctl1-5 all very easy to press. makes 27 easy binds with q,e,r,f,z,x,c easy to hit with small hands. Hell its still 23 binds if you only use 1-4 mods
I have a Naga, aka I have 40 binds available using only the mouse and I don't have to use my left pinky at all. 48 binds, technically, if I reach out slightly to hit the 6 key (I use ESDF instead of WASD). I could add Q,W,R,T,A,G,Z,X,C,V,B still, but I haven't felt the need to so far. Maybe once I try pvp again, for targeting or something.
An obscure keybind of note is "Target Scan Enemy (Hold)" - it basically circles the enemy nearest your center of screen, and selects them on release. Combine this with the addon MouselookHandler, and you can set it as your override left mouse button, and "Target Self" as your right mouse button. Similar to Bell's video on WoW action controls, this lets you toggle mouselook with i.e. middle mouse button, then target enemies like an action game. Now you no longer get hand strain holding right mouse all the time, though you still have to toggle it off again while looting or using the mouse cursor.
One keybind that has barely been talked about is the mousewheel. The mouseweehl allows for 3 different keybinds. Mousewheel up, mousewheel down and pressing the mousewheel. For me personally, my mousehand controls interrupts, stuns, movement abilities and some utility spells. Basically things that I might want to use while walking. That might be different for melee mains tho :D
The best thing you can do for this is getting a *Corsair Scimitar* ! Also, if someone has a problem with Shift/Alt/Ctrl modifiers like I do, get the addon *Opie* and bind a ring to a key
Agree, it's too good. I use 1 - 6 on generators, and shift 1 - 6 on spenders. Control 1 - 6 on cooldowns. R for interrupt, shift R for stun. Just naming a few. Having these rules makes it easy to swap between classes as well! And Opie is really good too. Use it for my stances / shapeshifts, consumables and mounts.
I would actually suggest moving your movement keys to ESDF so that way your pinky has access to Q and A easily. Your ring finger would also easily access W. Another trick you can do is if your mouse has extra buttons, turn one of them into SHIFT. You can now easily hold that button and and your keybinds just doubled without having to bind random keys that are hard to reach.
I make similar abilities be the same keybind across different toons, too. Interrupts, stuns, speed boosts, etc.. Make them all the same keybind on all toons so if you switch characters, you will always know what to push to intterupt, stun, etc..
"R" key for interrupts instead of "V" because of my muscle memory, Shift-V for racial abilities or shift Wheel-up or down, Alt-spacebar for most used mount, since i main a warlock Shift-A and Shift-D for teleport, "G" for demonic gateway(but for other classes i play i use "G" for stuns),shift-C for banish demon or elemental, ALT+S for Fel Domination, CTRL+S for sprint type abilities for me its burning rush, "T" for trinket or if you class has a taunt ability shift+T, Middle mouse button for drain soul; "note; can use mouse buttons for niche abilties also shift mousewheel or alt mousewheel for major dps cooldowns like recklessness or whatever else',( sometimes i use F1 - F5 for major cooldowns that are not part of everyday use like innervate for example)
I have a odd set up for most people. I use the button next to the 1 to toggle run to move forward, and then right click on the mouse to turn. 1-5 with my fingers, and f1-f4. 1-5 are main rotation with f1-f4 for multi abilities for aoe and single target that. 5-6 are stun, interrupt. I use a Logitech s700 where 5 and 6 is on the top button and the third tip button for back. The four buttons on the side is 9 and 0 for other abilities. Typically every xpac I try to learn new keyboards to make be more useful. Really good video !!!
I've used the same binds for a decade, and I always thought I was organized but maybe I need to reevaluate. Here is what I'm running with: 1-5 core abilities 6-8 useful but less common abilities (self heals, rezs, shield throw, taunt as dps, etc.) Q - "button i hit a lot" (taunt as tank, hots as healer, victory rush, death strike) E - other "button i hit a lot" F - utility X - big attack (kill shot, execute) Mouse 3 - movement ability Mouse 4 - mount Shift-1 - interrupt Shift-2 - stun Shift-3/4 - dispell, polymorph, spellsteal (sometimes more utility depending) Shift-q/e - AoE Shift-f - utlility Shift-x - "oh shit" button
I have some personal keybinds for all classes (if they have that category spell available) 1 = Utility (ie. Prepot, Thistle Tea) 2 = Filler ability 3 = Resource Spender 4 = Ranged ability for melee if availablee (ie. Heroic Throw) T = Interrupt R = Execute (Killshot for hunters etc.) V = Charge (Or any gap closer like death grip etc.) Shift + R = Always the biggest AoE damage dealer Shift + Q = Any sort of leap (Heroic Leap, Leap of Faith, Grappling hook etc.) Shift + V = Sprint or anything that straight up increases movement speed Shift + 4 = Secondary sprint (ie. having Sprint on Shift + V and then using heirloom trinket for 40% inc. movement speed) 2 /or/ Mouse wheel down = Filler/resource generating ability 3 /or/ Mouse wheel up = Finishers or high dps abilities that consume your classes resources Those are my special keybinds for WoW. Pretty much all of the binds work on all characters and if they don't then you can just improvise the binds to somethings that feel like almost the same ability as mentioned before.
So glad I have a corsair scimitar, 12 buttons on the side. 3 bars for abilities so 1-12, shift 1-12 ,ctrl 1-12 but i do also use F,E and R for things like my DH meta skill, retreat or aoe casts
@@AzILayDying66 Same with my Naga, though it did kind of stunt my growth when I transitioned to PC gaming as I got it so early on and never learned how to use keyboard keybindings well =P
I've played wow with a razer naga forever and I couldn't imagine playing without it. 12 buttons at your thumb plus shift, alt or ctrl modifiers give you so many options.
One thing I like to do is put more aggressive abilities higher up the keyboard and more laid-back abilities further down. That does not mean attacks are all further up and defenses are all further down. Here's some examples: Frostbolt has me standing still and activates other combos, and it should be nearby. F key. Cone of Cold is generally used when kiting and moving backwards. X. Blink is used to move forward, and can often be used aggressively. 3. Ice Lance is instant and provides great damage, and as such more aggressive than Frostbolt, but must be used often, and therefore it is bound to Q. Frost Nova is a defensive CC used primarily when under attack. C. There are a few funny exceptions in my setup like "disappear" - I put it on ½ (next to 1) because it's hiding up there in the corner. Invisibility has a countdown, so it doesn't need to be activated very quickly. Location based abilities are generally bound on the mouse, because that makes it very clear what happens when I use [@cursor] macros. These buttons become somewhat like double-clicks. The keyboard is not involved. I do have small hands. It's a problem. I use < and TAB and CAPS LOCK and S because I have to. I do like backpedal though, but only for tanking, so alt+S allows me to do that, and alt+W allows me to autorun.
To make my keybindings more memorable, although playing since tbc with same -ish keybindings helps, i use same key for trinkets on all my alts same key fo interrupt same for aoe attacks same for dotting same for short cd power-ups same for longer cd power-ups, , for running for mounting, etci get the same keybinding across all my toons with some specifics to each classes but they do same thing overall with a different flavour to them.
I do same thing. I got a razor naga mouse with 12 buttons on side. 8 is stun F1 interrupt 11 1shotmacro n so on. Tried telling my wife do same thing but she wants to live life hard way
My keybinding. 1,2,3,4,q,e then my gaming mouse. Then I use alt and ctrl for the rest of my bindings. One thing which is useful is binding ALT+scroll wheel scroll forwards/ scroll backwards. Pet attack and retreat. Tank taunt then switch target. DPS DoT then switch target. The macro to useability once then switch a target is - /cleartarget /targetenemy /cast 'spell name' just switch out 'spell name' for the spell you want to cast, ignoring the ' marks.
I set my movement to asdf. Since 'a' is backpedal, and the same finger is used for modifiers (Ctr, shift, etc), it had the added bonus of training me to move forward more often to get out of the bad on the floor.
I can't express the usefulness of the Clique addon as a healer to double-up on keybinds to make things feel more fluid and natural. For example: Mouse wheel down on my paladin will drop Consecration, if I mouse over a unit frame Mouse Wheel down will Holy Shock. This is done by binding the mouseover macro in clique, and binding Consecration on the action bar. Mouse Wheel up with no unit moused over will cast Light of dawn, mousing over a unit frame will then cast Flash of Light. All of a sudden a huge portion of my second-to-second keybinds are on 2 fluid intuitive movements. Theres an endless amount of little things to pair up that feel great and easy to remember. e.g, pressing D will hit my classes defensive ability, mousing over a friendly unit+D will cast my external defensive on them.
This is an awesome video. I did this years ago (using almost the exact setup you are showing here, and roughly the same principals). It is great to see this being shared so others can enjoy the game more. Very well put together.
For the lefties, Use your right hand for WASD. Use your right thumb for Ctrl, Shift, Alt, Ctrl+Shift, Shift+Alt. Bind 1-6 (or 7, hand size), G, F, and T, use them all individually and with the Ctrl/Shift/Alt modifiers. (Optional/Recommended): Rebind windows key into a second left shift button with a 3rd party program (super easy and free). That's 60 - 66 bindings without leaving WASD, doing any hand gymnastics, or unbinding default hotkey shortcuts. This still only slightly makes up for the discontinuation of every model of left handed MMO mouse. Enjoy.
Two main buttons on mouse for moving forward, mouse wheel click for back. Turn by steering mouse. Frees up ASDW. You will also be able to walk with steadier control on turns using your whole hand.
Yeah, mouse wheel up/down and middle click can be super useful. I use it with shift and ctrl for 9 total binds and alt to do zoom in/out. Mouse up/down is great for pet attack/recall with shift as follow/stay and ctrl for pet things like healing/summoning/etc[ I like using ` for my mount macro.
Reading these comments I feel like a heathen for using mouse wheel for next/previous target and shift mouse wheel for next/previous ally targetting but I made that switch years ago and never thought about binding it to combat skills
This is probably one of ur best videos on the channel. So many easy little adjustments, that even if people arent comfortable going SHIFT/CTRL+Key, just having QEZXCVFGT is a massive improvement in performance and game feel. I hope people trying this out really give it a shot and persevere for a while. Back in vanilla I remember it was definitely a learning curve while u remember what all the keys do... and there was the occasional fat finger situation, but after a bit it will be second nature and u will be the better for it. Ty, loved this video!
same here. I actually rearranged my bars in Elvui in a 3x4 grid to reflect the 12 buttons on my mouse and bound them accordingly. So I have the visual to help me remember which mouse button to press.
@@sennaka same, got two bars with 12 on each 3x4 style. One for main spells 1-12, one for defensive and utility shift+1-12. Mounts are Ctrl+1-12, everything else i don't use too much is Alt+1-2. But this is still a good vid, I never thought of the auto run switch or A D strafe switch. I can use alot of these ideas, like panic spells on zxcv
Not same mouse but yeah 1-12 shift 1-12 ctrl 1-12 more than I’ll ever need and I find it so much easier using my thumb or one finger and a thumb than any other possible arrangement
@@codylovin6040 I picked up the strafe trick from City of Heroes, which I played before I came to WoW :) It is rather nice. And yeah, mains on 1-12 with shift and 1-12 for the others!
Tip 6. Use a Bar Addon, setup your bars similar to your keyboard. `, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 q, e, r, f, g, t z, x, c, v, b Not the best example (but you get the idea), but then its easy for you to see what spell is on what key at a glance if you play multiple hero's / specs.
I've been doing this for years and it's very cool to see a video about it. Ironically, I agree with S for making minor backpedalling adjustments. So I keep S for moving and I unbind W because you can move forward with left and right mouse click. Sometimes that is an issue when you want to click and target because you have to stop moving forward. But you can still strafe forward with A or D by adjusting the camera angle with right click, which frees up left click for targeting.
Will you be updating the spreadsheet for dragon flight? I would love it if you did because I’ve been using your spreadsheet for all my characters and now I’m a bit scrambled with all of the talent changes messing up my keybinds
Logitech G13. Forward/Back/strafe on the thumbstick. Central 9 keya set up as 1-9, 0 on the large button to the right of 9. - and = on the two buttons in the upper right. Tab on the upper left, modifiers below that, so the left pinky handles targeting and modifiers. Ring/middle/index fingers rest on 4,5,6. Home row (4,5,6) is for most-used abilities, with the "main" attack skill on 5. Above those (1,2,3) are utilities - I usually use 3 for interrupts, for example. Below the home row (7,8,9) are situational abilities. 0 (big button that can be hit with either index finger or thumb) is the "Oh Shit!" button, for some kind of escape/snare skill. Shift turns that into "Big DPS", usually an "all cooldowns" macro. - and = get used for pet control and mount/dismount. The other buttons (the G13 has quite a lot) get bound as I find I need things, but the "core" of my layout handles three full actionbars without adding more.
I do something very similar. A and D are strafe, Q is target enemy player, Z is mount and everything else is on 1 to 12 on the mouse with Alt, Shift and Ctrl modifiers as needed.
Just adding some extra control thought/suggestions: If you move your movement to the right 1 key, you add pinky keys at z, a and q. If you have an MMO mount with 12 keys on the side, rest your thumb at 5: 2,4,5,6,8 are all easy to click, 1,3,7,9 are ok. As a healer if you are ok with more keys (such as if you have an mmo mouse) mouse over heals and on target attacks, can make healing pretty comfortable, depending on the fight, you can focus a tank and make your attack at focus' target if you have a focus, and just be your target when you don't. If you are dpsing, you can make your CC target your focus and make your CC always @focus.
This is all very good advice. Ive bound this way for years. I can kick, sap, mitigate, self heal, CD/burst on any class like I've been playing it for years. I just use a mouse with two side buttons, and a good mechanical keyboard. As for the keybinding advice? Solid. Saving this, and everyone in guild will get this link. I've been trying to teach this idea to newer players for years. This is short sweet, and informative. Thanks!
Been a clicker for 15 years, hopping on and off the game Never had the patience to do rebinds except for Q and E for interrrups and stuns This video is the best tutorial I've seen on the subject and I might try some stuff on pre-patch Really appreciate it
Basically, in order to play easily each class / spec ... i use what I call "Function Keybind" ... meaning that every binded keys are associated with a function that translate any role. For exemple F is for AoE ability to place with a click (Ex:Flamestrike/Blizzard). V = Mobility (Sprint, Slow Fall, Burning Rush, Intervene). Q= Stun (cheap shot, warrior stun, Warlock Demono Felguard stun).E are for key abilities that are often required to cast quickly (fire blast, pistol shot, hand of guldan). My CD abilities are on shift+q, shift+w and shift+e (shield wall, heroism, combustion, azerite essence). Shift+f is my panik button (ice block, vanish, feign death). Z=trinket. C = aoe/cleave immediate (frost nova, whirlwind, fan of knives). Shift+C = Mount (it makes my gameplay experience so much better, try it !). G=for situational (Sheep, SpellThief, Spell Reflect, scorch,Fear) Then 1 2 3 4 for core abilities. And for the mouse ... Wheel Click is variable (Blink, Shield Block, Stealth, Racial Traits, Order pet to attack:switch target). I have 2 buttons on the left side of my mouse, one is always for healing abilities or shielding abilities (rogue potion, healthstone, Mage Shield, Ignore pain) and the other is for CUT abilities. I also have shift+z and shift+v recently for OTHERS ... sometimes you actually need to play a spec to realise that you need more adaptability (Corruption Cloak, ice block or invisibility, a specific actif talent etc ...) Other exemple for my prot war where things are differently, maybe thoses functions keys translate better for DPS spec I should have said ... but for protwar E=Charge, F=Heroic Leap, feels really good to not look at your macros when you have to use thoses abilities in a short window and see what's happening during a raid fight in the same time ... anyway. Started using Keybinds at the beginning of WoD, it was not easy to get used to but now I can't play without :)
i feel as if you guys just stole my keybindings. I use the letter keys around wasd allready since burning crusade and all in my guild allways say: "Thats strange buttons to use." but i allways thougth they are nice. AND YES F IS FOR INTERRUPT!
My personal keybindings are pretty similar, although there are some major differences. For starters, I use my mouse to move - I hold down left and right click to move forward, and use my two mouse buttons on the side to strafe left and right. I use my scrollwheel to toggle autorun (it used to be the middle mouse button until that button stopped working). My abilities are bound to Q,W,E,R; A,S,D,F; and Z;X;C;V. I also use modifiers shift and control to bring it up to a total of 36 buttons, which every class I've played hasn't needed the full extent of. I use A,S,D,F for my main rotation, and then use modifiers generally for AOE abilities. For example, F is generally my spender, and Shift + F is generally an AOE spender. I use Q for my interrupt, W for a bubble/oh shit ability, E for a slow, and R for a stun. I use Z for my PvP trinket, X for an ability that removes movement impairing effects, C for a self heal, and V for a speed boost. I also bind my mount to G and my party members to 1-5. It seems to work pretty well for me; usually my only issue is not remembering what my abilities do (although I still use them somewhat successfully because similar abilities are bound to similar buttons regardless of class, like you recommended).
You can use q, e, c, r , t pretty comfortably with standard movement on your left hand I pretty much use the mmo mouse for my entire rotation it’s super comfortable
My fav binds: Shift-W for gap closers and speed buffs like Charge, Sprint, Dash, Wild Charge, Nitro Boost etc. Mousewheel-up for pet attack/stance macros (pet attack + petdefensive or petassist) and Mousewheel down for stop petattack + pet passive macro. Z for interrupts. R for ranged attacks or aoe or frontal cone/cleave attacks like Frostscythe or Cone of Cold or Whirlwind. Shift-R for dps cooldowns. Q and E for instant cast ranged spells like Moonfire and Sunfire or Corruption and Agony or Flameshock and Frostshock, or for attacks with short cooldowns that cant be spammed like Wake of Ashes or Barbed Shot. I use centrally located gaming mouse button for select enemy target and same button + Shift to select enemy player target. The key to binds is to use same buttons to perform similar functions on multiple classes and specs if possible to try and keep muscle memory clean and simple.
I have been investing a lot of time in key binds myself. As a hobbyist game designer and avid wow player, I like to make this gel. This is what I found. I actually keep my turn keys on my keyboard and use them while holding down the RMB to go side to side. I am not sure why, I like the consistency of left turning right. I like the standard Six buttons for movement, and I have tended to use them in niche situations. Though Q and E often go unused, I like to keep my W key away from accidental presses. The rest of my binds are all straight forward. Given this, I use my mouse to drive more than my keyboard anyways. This really lets my left hand think action, and my right hand thing navigation. However, I do use W and autorun a lot! conceptually, I feel like this is backwards, but when I switched to it, I noticed a huge, drastic increase in my APMs. 1. Alt + [Character] is a modifier which allow me to use the default blizzard keybinds for ridiculous function. 2. Alt [Or + [num row] is a modifier which lets me keep complex multi or single rotation buttons in a linear, mashable line. ---- my rotation usually consists of 1 through 6 and alt 1 through 6 to be safe. 3. Shift + [Character] is easier to hit quickly, and it is the way a keyboard is more intended to be used. So I use shift as default modifier. 4. CTRL is very useful to pick up the gaps. Often Opie Crap 5. Middle Mouse button is always a main stay for me. Middle Mouse + Modifiers give me up to 6 super quick things to do - often around things that need Ground Targets Assigned, as you are moving your mouse and interacting with the key at the same time. I tend to favor these placements R: interrupt - mod R for alternative interupts T: CC - often used as interrupt - alt T F: Often my 'Fast/dodge ability" with alt: F being autorun. Also, Ctrl x and ctrl V for Transcendence setups. because why not Cut and Paste your Monk?
Also remember you can apply modifiers to your main keys. So each of my wasd keys have an additional function with modifier. With Shift-W for movement abilities, Shift-S for defense / backwards vaulting, Shift-D interrupt, Shift-Q dispel / shield. Most of my characters are able to put the same types of abilities on the same keys, very easy for muscle memory.
Clever macros can also help with keybindings. Here is an example of an old macro that does four things: cancels Ice Block if it is on you, casts Polymorph on a focus target (if you have one), uses your mount if you don't (I have a separate button that easily creates and clears focus targets), and controls your pets/summons to bring them back to you if they are about to attack something you don't want them to (you can simply move while pressing the button if you don't want to sheep a focus target). /console Sound_EnableSFX 0 /cancelaura Ice Block /cast [@focus,harm,nodead][] Polymorph /use NAME OF MOUNT /cleartarget [dead] /petfollow /console Sound_EnableSFX 1 /script UIErrorsFrame:Clear() In fact, you can use the same macros on multiple characters if you have room for another spell, to save space on global macros tab. For instance, if you have a macro for Fireball that has the line "/cast Fireball" in it, simply add "/cast Shadowbolt" in a line below that; if you are on your Warlock it will cast Shadowbolt, and on your mage it will cast Fireball. Hope it helps someone.
This is JUST the video I looked for when I started playing. I now follow this exact "algorithm" for binding my keys, took long to figure all this out. Great video!
When I got serious in Wrath, I sat down and did something similar, but one major difference that I've never heard of anyone else doing is I do ALL my movement with my mouse, freeing up the WASD keys for attacks. I use the built-in pressing down both mouse buttons to move forward and I use the tilt on the mouse wheel to strafe. My venerable G 502 has 3 side buttons which I use to (going from front to back) auto-run, jump and backpedal. I find this works very well for me except for the rare instance there is a quest that requires you to click on something while moving, which kind of sucks. I also use keys on the right hand side of the keyboard for non-critical things like opening bags, mount/dismount, reply whisper etc. thereby freeing up the combos of left-side keys and modifiers for the more uncommon functions. I use "shift" as a modifier for combat functions like cooldowns, since that's fastest to reach with my fingers on the asdf key row, while using "ctrl" for non-combat functions like sitting, sheathing weapons and Blizzard functions like screen shots and music on/off.
I already had the same types of abilities on the same buttons across classes, but I only recently REALLY consolidated my buttons, it’s super helpful. Still had some things up picked up. Thanks for spreading the word!!
Binding modifiers like Shift, Control and/or Alt can be a game-changer especially for small hands. YMMV but putting two of those on a mouse was something I immediately found very comfortable and smooth. Which doesn't eliminate putting other keybinds such as rotational abilities there as well, its not either or. Whatever is most comfortable and easy is always best. I've never worried about muscle memory when changing things. You re-adjust faster than you think, especially if its a good change.
I'm not sure if this was mentioned or not, but I am a big fan of binding my scroll wheel for bread and butter abilities that are spammed often! Not pressing it in, but actually scrolling in a specific direction. For example, Shift+Scroll Up is Lightning Bolt & Shift+Scroll Down is Laval Blast on my Shaman (my main builders). Then, Ctrl+Scroll Up is Flame Shock & Ctrl+Scroll Down is Earth Shock(My main DoT and Spender). And finally, Alt+Scroll Up is Chain Lightning & Alt+Scroll Down is Earthquake (My main AoE's). It helps me stay mobile and mouse-turn easily while still rolling out (literally rolling the mouse wheel) DPS.
OMG! you just changed my world. I had no idea I could mouse over more than one spell depending on the target! this has freed up some buttons and made it possible to have the same ability on the same button regardless of spec(Druid main)
Categorisation is king. I've been using that since BC. I actually use mouse bindings as well, currently with the Razor Naga Hex v2. So basically my keyboard is movement (WASD) and modifiers (Shift & Ctrl), with only 2 actual ability keys (Q & E) Then, on my mouse, I utilise multiple thumb buttons + modifiers, so: Movement: WASD, auto-run = Shift+W Primary (Generator) Attacks: MB4*, Shift+MB4, & Ctrl+MB4 Secondary (Spender) Attacks: MB5, Shift+MB5, & Ctrl+MB5 Interrupts / CC: Q, Q+Shift, Q+Ctrl CDs: E, E+Shift, E+Ctrl AOE: MB6, MB6+Shift, MB6+Ctrl Heals / Defence: MB7, MB7+Shift, MB7+Ctrl Movement Boosts (Charge etc): MB1+Shift, MB1+Ctrl Additional Defences: MB2+Shift, MB2+Ctrl This gives me 22 keybinds for abilities, most of those just on my right hand, shared across all my toons (in a general sense), which as mentioned, lets me jump from character to character and be able to play to a reasonable degree with muscle memory because I know if I press X, it'll give me a spell that does Y.
I needed this video! I couldn't find anything explaining bindings for a new player like myself. It's been hard to close the gap on the average WoW player when handicapped with limited knowledge of key binding in the game. I feel a beginners guide to macros would be amazing! Edit: Watch the whole video before you comment🤣
12345 = Basic attacks Shift+12345 = AoE and specials Mouse buttons for the last two = CD's or extraneous Q = Stun E = Interrupt R = Utility (Purge or Snare) F = movement ability 1 G = movement ability 2 or other CTRL+123 = Defensives Z and X = Defensive and Trinket Mouse buttons for last two = Cooldowns or Mouseover abilities you need That's pretty much it. You don't need to worry too much about alt combinations unless you're doing PVP at high end and want to start using focus macros.
I ended up putting the modifiers on my mouse, super helpful! Current set up: F1-F4, S F1- S F4, 1-5, S1-S5, most used ability on scroll wheel, and modifier/ interrupt/ dispell/ survival CD/ movement boost on my mouse side buttons.
I was actually thinking I wouldn't need this video. Nice job Bell! I learned quite a bit I can't believe I didn't remap strafes until now. 15 years later....
If this helps anyone, my keybind setup allows me not have to use the f's and ctrl's and only have to use 1-5. The binds i use are as followed: 1-5, shift 1-5, Q E R T G Y F Z X C V. The numerals have shift variants aswell (Shift c for example). Things like achievement menu, sheating, character tab (where you see gear) are bound in the same tab as insert, home pageup etc are on This works very well for me, I could never get myself to use f's and control and this is Imo more easily learnable if your using default right now. I encourage you to do what fits you best though. GL
Luv the Keybinding video. That’s a game changer. I use a Naga Tartarus and all action bar keys are on my Tartarus and usable by my left hand. I expect the comment section to yield platinum for even greater tips.
This is a godsend. I just returned to WoW and was frustrated with my keybinds since I just put my abilities on the next key available. This made it a mess to use muscle memory across classes. I needed someone to hold my hand like this and make a spreadsheet haha. I even tried myself but failed miserably. Thanks!
Great guide. Keep up the good work! Thought I'd add my own keybinds as a southpaw, as some of your suggestions don't work so well for us left-handers. As a leftie, I used to use the number pad, but recently switched to WASD (European QWERTY) since it was really annoying when I accidentally hit the NumLock button. I moved the jump button to F from space and use G as move down. My main action bar buttons are Q, E, R, T, 1-5, and Z as they are easy to access. I use H for the extra action button. I use CTRL as the modifier button as my thumb rests easily on it (unlike SHIFT). Out of combat abilities (food, healthstone, etc.), they are bound to the right side of the keyboard (bars 4 and 5 / Right action Bars) As for multi-button mice, there don't seem to be many decent left-handed mouse on the market these days AFAIK, except the hard-to-come-by Razer Naga Left-Handed Edition, but I get a large number of easy-to-access keybinds (plus with CTRL modifier) with this layout. There are more details on the keybinds with my Resto Drood ELVui setup on WAGO: wago.io/dwwcJnHPN
Of the 3 side buttons I have on my mouse 2 are bound to 'right ALT' and 'right CRTL' as I use my 'left alt' for push to talk. this allows my thumb to press CTRL or ALT and easily use the other keys with my left hand. You can then also use 'Shift ALT' and 'Shift CTRL' for more combinations but I don't use too many of those, mostly only with healing and click-to-cast also shift mouse wheel up and down
I'm a left hander that actually uses my left hand. Meaning I'm not ambidextrous. I use the mouse with my left hand just as I would a writing implement or eating utensil. So absolutely none of this applies to me. Movement: Right mouse button plus ← or → strafes. ↑ for forward and since I don't back peddle (I turn with my mouse) and getting my right thumb over to the space bar to jump is impossible, I use ↓ to jump. Abilities: I bound all the keypad keys 0-9 also plus (+) minus (-) asterisk (*) and period (.) That's 12 abilities plus offensive and defensive CD. I also have a left handed Razer Naga and have MW scroll up and down, MW press, MW side push, M4 and M5, mouse keypad 2,3,5,6,8, and 9 all bound to various abilities like heals and utility spells. They are all the same across all my toons. As an altaholic, I play every class in the game. From posting on Reddit, I've found very few left handers actually use their left hand on the mouse. I don't see how this is possible since it would take me 5 minutes to even hit the X to close a window if I had to use my right hand.
I think the most underutilized key is the tilde "`" (The little Squiggle by #1). I use it for Pet Nova(Mage), most stance change or Rogue Invis. Also Action Bar swaps for Dps/Heals like for priest, or Taunt for Tanks. It's such a clean/useful, never fat fingered Keybind.
I use Q W E for moving. Completely removed back pedaling to the equation as it's never used and it's another east access button. D is always interrupt, A is always defensive, S is always movement speed buffs, R is always CC or taunt, F is always a commonly used ranged ability, C is always and AoC ability. I have one of each chat at max level and bellular is right when it comes to keeping it the same across the board makes your life easier.
WASD is wonky. I use the home row keys ASDF. A is strafe left, F is right, D is forward. You don't have to shift hand position for near 18 keys from a flat finger configuration. WASD is a triangle, then you have to move from there. Home row keys are more efficient and comfortable in the long run since we all use them to type.
From very early on I found the following, for me, to be very comfortable default hand placement for playing WoW: - pinky on W, other fingers on 4,5,6, thumb on right ALT Macros are a must. 3 and 7 are very easy to hit, as are R, T, Y.
13 Years ago i played on a laptop and my 1-9 keys went out on me. so in order to play i developed a whole new way of using the keys. the most comfortable place to put your fingers for movement were on AWD with a thumb on spacebar for jumping and such. so i hotkeys all my primary bar abilities to Alt+ QWER / ASDF/ ZXCV thats all 12 buttons in an easy to layout 3x4 grid (this is made easier with addons) now without ever moveing my hand from the comfort of the WASD position i can use all 12 of my primary abilities without issue. This makes movement and casting super simple and easy. it also frees up the number keys (usually 1-6) for use in situational buttons (ie trinkets, long cd cool downs) also ALT+ 1-6 can be used for things like rare abilities like vanish for a rogue. Also with this set up it can be taken a step further even and the pinky can be used to press Shift opening up another whole hotkey set up. Also if you use a mouse with buttons on the side (usually used for forwards and backwards in windows navigation) use them! i have a whole bar that is dedicated to nothing but middle mouse and those 2 buttons. by using Alt, Shift and Ctrl that opens up the use of another 12 whole buttons to be used! in total with the change to ALT+QWER/ASDF/ZXCV, 1-6, Alt+1-6 and the mouse buttons that is 3 FULL bars worth of buttons without having to move you fingers off the WASD keys . There are more combos but these 3 have forever changes how i play this game.
For me I use a system on all characters. A= Stun S= Shield D= Buff (Wings, Vendetta. Damage increasers.) Shift+D= Lust effects. F= Big Spender R= Heal T= Interrupt C= AOE X= Silence z= (anything) Also I have ` bound to unsheathe my weapon and shift+` as walk. The menu keys that are unbound by these keybinds can just be rebound to the same keys with a shift modifier.
I just realized this is basically what you covered as I watched further into the video. I have an easy life because I have massive hands and my thumb naturally rests on the N key lmao

It's a druid macro that no matter which spec you are in or which affinity you choose it will cast the affinity CC, either typhoon, maim, incapacitating roar or ursol's vortex.
Only critique I have is that there is no mention of the quick ui bind that's brand new this patch as well. When in the keybindings ui, click the second button on the bottom left to bind keys without having to browse the old clunky panel :)

I’ve used keybindings my whole wow career and still found this very useful! Thank you!
Same! I use an MMO mouse and this did give some good ideas for some short falls I have. Also Opie addon got rid of like 15 keybinds for me haha.
@@criminallettucewraps5207 omg I forgot about Opie thank you! (Just coming back to wow after like a decade)
When I started keybinding, I would bind my top 4 abilities, play until I feel they are instinctive then proceed to the next 4 abilities and so on. Binding everything at once was too overwhelming for me.
Wow this is an amazing idea to try out, thanks!
Why not bind 3verytbijg and just press the binds when you're ready? Why wait to bind more and got though the annoyance if binding new things multiple times
This is how i learned in cataclysm and got gladiator in mists.
That's actually why I prefer to level over boosting. And I'd always level in pvp because that is the only time you can really get to know a character.
I’m guessing you play a musical instrument. It’s a similar approach to muscle memory and retention. 👍
Got a couple that I love that I'd recommend to everyone: CTR (or SHIFT)+W: Autorun; MouseUp and MouseDown: your two most commonly used interrupts or stuns (I use CTR+scroll for camera zooms).
this is brilliant! Gonna leave this up so I remember to change it when the game comes back up after maintenance!

I'm commander Shephard and this is my favorite keyboard on the citadel.
One keybinding of mine I love is my F keybind. I usually put it as a big spender. On my ret pala that means Templar's verdict. Then I use my buttons on my mouse for smaller generator abilities. This means the big pay-off spender feels special, because I activate it in a totally different way compared to my generators.
I like that logic
Like using our BIG skills in Borderlands 😁 pressing F mean FACK YOU!!
gay
I have F as the main combat ability as well. It feels really satisfying. :D
Several spells on my druid will pop me to animal form, because if I had to break form for an emergency heal I really don't have time to find my shapeshift button whilst panicking.
huntard's mark can be easily paired with autoshot or any starting ability.

@@Andelai2137 It takes a little bit to get used to, but it is incredible once you're comfortable with it. No more using your left pinky to try to press awkward combinations of buttons and give yourself carpal tunnel.
@Ultra Vires depending on the mouse, you do it either on the mouse's app, or in Windows. As in, the bind won't be exclusive to WoW.
I bought logitech 502 just for that 🤣🤣
For sure! High quality of life this is.

It used to be C for me but I think in Wrath or something I saw the error of my ways.
F is to pay your respects. True gamers know.
Back button of mouse on left side, feels so natural.
I don't know if I am weird but I use ESDF instead of WASD. Having my left hand in a more central position on the keyboard allows me to reach more keys for the quick skills.
ESDF gang checking in. Using F for a movement key is great since it’s a home key and has that raised bump on it. This really helps me keep track of exactly where my fingers are without ever looking at the keyboard.
please delete this comment and destroy everything computer related in your house.
ESDF is clearly superior as it centralises your rotation keys on 3 (leaving 1, 2 and 4, 5 open either side) plus opens up W, Q and A as ability buttons.
Im glad I'm not the only one
took me 3 weeks to get muscle memory for this, and best thing I've ever done. Been playing like this for 2 years now.
"Have you tried hitting Alt and 4 while moving?"
That's why MMO players jump. to relief themselves of holding down a movement button to hit a key combo while maintaining directional momentum
Or just auto run on a mouse key
That is exactly why I use mouse buttons for instant cast abilities while strafing. That way I can easily strafe in either direction and comfortably hit the button. Before that it was hard for me to press certain keyboard keys while strafing in a certain direction.
you could also hold down left and right click
..once I used alt+4 as a macro; during a long 2v2 arena fight with dampening already at high stacks I accidentally closed the game with alt+f4 :/
BLOCK NUM (on numeric pad) does this by default keybinding. Also pressing both buttons or the mousewheel button as a button instead of scrolling. Aditionally you can set the game to be click to go
@@mmarkusgaming 40 minute MoP 2v2?
a tip from me, if you have a mouse with 2 side buttons, download the software to change what those 2 buttons do.
Change them to be left control and left alt key
You now have 1-5, shift-1-5, alt1-5, ctl1-5 all very easy to press. makes 27 easy binds with q,e,r,f,z,x,c easy to hit with small hands.
@@Salchipapafied I have the razer trinity, i just have way too big of a thumb to use the 12 button panel.

@@iyaramonk Ive done it before. It only takes about a week.

@@holographicfrog1503 strafes ?
One keybind that has barely been talked about is the mousewheel. The mouseweehl allows for 3 different keybinds. Mousewheel up, mousewheel down and pressing the mousewheel.
For me personally, my mousehand controls interrupts, stuns, movement abilities and some utility spells. Basically things that I might want to use while walking. That might be different for melee mains tho :D
Unless you have some fancy gaming mouse whose mousewheel has right and left clicks!
The best thing you can do for this is getting a *Corsair Scimitar* !
Also, if someone has a problem with Shift/Alt/Ctrl modifiers like I do, get the addon *Opie* and bind a ring to a key
I loved mine. Lasted 4 years before the right mouse button started giving out
Agree, it's too good.
Wish this video came out 5 years ago when I was learning all of this on my own
I make similar abilities be the same keybind across different toons, too. Interrupts, stuns, speed boosts, etc.. Make them all the same keybind on all toons so if you switch characters, you will always know what to push to intterupt, stun, etc..
Same here.
You can also bind the “extra action button” that shows up on your screen during some raid encounters. Pretty useful.
Did that with one of my 2 extra mouse buttons with the other for my mount

Thanks, I was having a mental breakdown just before due to the overwhelming amount of skills and focus target spells. Very helpful video.
I got queston to you like looking on your skils when u in dungeon?
I have a odd set up for most people. I use the button next to the 1 to toggle run to move forward, and then right click on the mouse to turn. 1-5 with my fingers, and f1-f4. 1-5 are main rotation with f1-f4 for multi abilities for aoe and single target that. 5-6 are stun, interrupt. I use a Logitech s700 where 5 and 6 is on the top button and the third tip button for back. The four buttons on the side is 9 and 0 for other abilities. Typically every xpac I try to learn new keyboards to make be more useful. Really good video !!!
"'Oppai' is the big one. Oh it's so good."
Yeah, I mean... oppai really is often talked about that way.
I know it's actually OPie.
I see you're a man of culture 😉
I've used the same binds for a decade, and I always thought I was organized but maybe I need to reevaluate. Here is what I'm running with:
1-5 core abilities
6-8 useful but less common abilities (self heals, rezs, shield throw, taunt as dps, etc.)
Q - "button i hit a lot" (taunt as tank, hots as healer, victory rush, death strike)
E - other "button i hit a lot"
F - utility
X - big attack (kill shot, execute)
Mouse 3 - movement ability
Mouse 4 - mount
Shift-1 - interrupt
Shift-2 - stun
Shift-3/4 - dispell, polymorph, spellsteal (sometimes more utility depending)
Shift-q/e - AoE
Shift-f - utlility
Shift-x - "oh shit" button
Oh, and = (with my right hand) for auto run
Scroll-wheel down for my "main ability" has been a staple for me since '07, then scroll wheel up for finishers/short CD damaging abilities.
I guess you can really see yourself hitting more with this approach, since you cant zoom out
I can't decide whether you're a genius or a psychopath

V = Charge (Or any gap closer like death grip etc.)
Shift + R = Always the biggest AoE damage dealer
Shift + Q = Any sort of leap (Heroic Leap, Leap of Faith, Grappling hook etc.)
Shift + V = Sprint or anything that straight up increases movement speed
Shift + 4 = Secondary sprint (ie. having Sprint on Shift + V and then using heirloom trinket for 40% inc. movement speed)
2 /or/ Mouse wheel down = Filler/resource generating ability
3 /or/ Mouse wheel up = Finishers or high dps abilities that consume your classes resources
Those are my special keybinds for WoW.
Best purchase I've made for the game. Best mouse ever for WoW
Here's some examples:
Frostbolt has me standing still and activates other combos, and it should be nearby.
The macro to useability once then switch a target is -
/cleartarget
/targetenemy
/cast 'spell name'
just switch out 'spell name' for the spell you want to cast, ignoring the ' marks.
Tip: move wasd to esdf to geht additional Buttons left of your movement
Or use ur thumbs to strafe with v and b. Next level
"Smooth and creamy" - Bellular 10/24/20
This is an awesome video. I did this years ago (using almost the exact setup you are showing here, and roughly the same principals). It is great to see this being shared so others can enjoy the game more. Very well put together.
This is tight. Thanks for the heads up Bellular!
For the lefties,
Use your right hand for WASD.
Enjoy.
AS A ROGUE USE V FOR VANISH I FEEL SO CLEVER
I do though
Two main buttons on mouse for moving forward, mouse wheel click for back.
Turn by steering mouse.
Frees up ASDW. You will also be able to walk with steadier control on turns using your whole hand.
Not talking about using the mouse wheel is criminal
Yeah, mouse wheel up/down and middle click can be super useful. I use it with shift and ctrl for 9 total binds and alt to do zoom in/out. Mouse up/down is great for pet attack/recall with shift as follow/stay and ctrl for pet things like healing/summoning/etc[
I like using ` for my mount macro.
I just play WoW with a Logitech g500 and it does me well
same here. I actually rearranged my bars in Elvui in a 3x4 grid to reflect the 12 buttons on my mouse and bound them accordingly. So I have the visual to help me remember which mouse button to press.
@@sennaka Razer Naga here, same (with bartender)! i could never go back.
`, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
q, e, r, f, g, t
z, x, c, v, b
Not the best example (but you get the idea), but then its easy for you to see what spell is on what key at a glance if you play multiple hero's / specs.
Does anybody else hate it when he says the word "creamy"?
Bruh
Gooey
I've always felt great using the side 1-12 buttons on my razer naga mouse for my abilities and I use f for auto run lol
The Naga mouse is amazing. You can literally just bind everything to it and like an alt key to give yourself even more buttons
I do something very similar. A and D are strafe, Q is target enemy player, Z is mount and everything else is on 1 to 12 on the mouse with Alt, Shift and Ctrl modifiers as needed.
R for interrupt, Shift+R for stun. Surprise this video hadn't come out sooner, but I didn't know about the help/harm macro so appreciated.
Main attack : Mouse wheel up
Secondary Attack : mouse wheel down
Movement : E S F
how do you zoom?
@@haaliax + - keys. never zoom in or out much anyway.
Just adding some extra control thought/suggestions:
If you move your movement to the right 1 key, you add pinky keys at z, a and q.
If TH-cam fails you.. become a hype marketer lol
Thanks!
Been a clicker for 15 years, hopping on and off the game
Never had the patience to do rebinds except for Q and E for interrrups and stuns
This video is the best tutorial I've seen on the subject and I might try some stuff on pre-patch
Really appreciate it
Basically, in order to play easily each class / spec ... i use what I call "Function Keybind" ... meaning that every binded keys are associated with a function that translate any role.
AND YES F IS FOR INTERRUPT!
lol. F is my finisher (execute and such) tab is for interrupts :)
Same, F is for interrupt on every character.
my interrupt is always R. F is my trinket use
@@funsterkeyven haha! My interrupt is r too.
E is interrupt for me ^^
My personal keybindings are pretty similar, although there are some major differences.
I could never play with these kinds of binds.
My left hand is useless for anything but movement.
😂🤣😂🤣
same here
You can use q, e, c, r , t pretty comfortably with standard movement on your left hand I pretty much use the mmo mouse for my entire rotation it’s super comfortable
Why is no one talking about a catch up mechanic for new level 50s during prepatch? Level 80-90 neck and max cloak?????????
cuz this is a keybind video bro
Often Opie Crap
5. Middle Mouse button is always a main stay for me. Middle Mouse + Modifiers give me up to 6 super quick things to do - often around things that need Ground Targets Assigned, as you are moving your mouse and interacting with the key at the same time.
I tend to favor these placements
R: interrupt - mod R for alternative interupts
T: CC - often used as interrupt - alt T
F: Often my 'Fast/dodge ability" with alt: F being autorun.
Also, Ctrl x and ctrl V for Transcendence setups. because why not Cut and Paste your Monk?
Sorry Michael, I've been playing this for 14 years. I'm a clicker and not a keybinder.
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/cancelaura Ice Block
/cast [@focus,harm,nodead][] Polymorph
/use NAME OF MOUNT
/cleartarget [dead]
/petfollow
/console Sound_EnableSFX 1
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()
In fact, you can use the same macros on multiple characters if you have room for another spell, to save space on global macros tab.
A mouse with 12 keys is so good. Even if you click some of your abilities having 12 of them on a gaming mouse is life changing.
I guess you don't PvP?
So basically my keyboard is movement (WASD) and modifiers (Shift & Ctrl), with only 2 actual ability keys (Q & E)
Then, on my mouse, I utilise multiple thumb buttons + modifiers, so:
Movement: WASD, auto-run = Shift+W
Primary (Generator) Attacks: MB4*, Shift+MB4, & Ctrl+MB4
Secondary (Spender) Attacks: MB5, Shift+MB5, & Ctrl+MB5
Interrupts / CC: Q, Q+Shift, Q+Ctrl
CDs: E, E+Shift, E+Ctrl
AOE: MB6, MB6+Shift, MB6+Ctrl
Heals / Defence: MB7, MB7+Shift, MB7+Ctrl
Movement Boosts (Charge etc): MB1+Shift, MB1+Ctrl
Additional Defences: MB2+Shift, MB2+Ctrl
This gives me 22 keybinds for abilities, most of those just on my right hand, shared across all my toons (in a general sense), which as mentioned, lets me jump from character to character and be able to play to a reasonable degree with muscle memory because I know if I press X, it'll give me a spell that does Y.
Google macro tutorial, turns out macros are easy. Or maybe I'm just used to them.
You would be surprised how many people play wow without binds 😂😂
12345 = Basic attacks
Shift+12345 = AoE and specials
Mouse buttons for the last two = CD's or extraneous
Q = Stun
E = Interrupt
R = Utility (Purge or Snare)
F = movement ability 1
G = movement ability 2 or other
CTRL+123 = Defensives
Z and X = Defensive and Trinket
Mouse buttons for last two = Cooldowns or Mouseover abilities you need
That's pretty much it.
The binds i use are as followed:
1-5, shift 1-5, Q E R T G Y F Z X C V. The numerals have shift variants aswell (Shift c for example). Things like achievement menu, sheating, character tab (where you see gear) are bound in the same tab as insert, home pageup etc are on
This works very well for me, I could never get myself to use f's and control and this is Imo more easily learnable if your using default right now.
Out of combat abilities (food, healthstone, etc.), they are bound to the right side of the keyboard (bars 4 and 5 / Right action Bars)
As for multi-button mice, there don't seem to be many decent left-handed mouse on the market these days AFAIK, except the hard-to-come-by Razer Naga Left-Handed Edition, but I get a large number of easy-to-access keybinds (plus with CTRL modifier) with this layout.
You can then also use 'Shift ALT' and 'Shift CTRL' for more combinations but I don't use too many of those, mostly only with healing and click-to-cast
also shift mouse wheel up and down
I'm a left hander that actually uses my left hand.
I use tilde for mount summon
From very early on I found the following, for me, to be very comfortable default hand placement for playing WoW:
- pinky on W, other fingers on 4,5,6, thumb on right ALT
Macros are a must. 3 and 7 are very easy to hit, as are R, T, Y.
I WISH I HAD THIS 2 YEARS AGO!! So many new players will LOVE THIS! GREAT VIDEO BELLULAR!
Great ideas I’ve always struggled with bindings. Im saving them as “Bellulars Brilliant Bindings” cheers and thanks for making this
13 Years ago i played on a laptop and my 1-9 keys went out on me. so in order to play i developed a whole new way of using the keys. the most comfortable place to put your fingers for movement were on AWD with a thumb on spacebar for jumping and such. so i hotkeys all my primary bar abilities to Alt+ QWER / ASDF/ ZXCV thats all 12 buttons in an easy to layout 3x4 grid (this is made easier with addons) now without ever moveing my hand from the comfort of the WASD position i can use all 12 of my primary abilities without issue.
A= Stun
S= Shield
D= Buff (Wings, Vendetta. Damage increasers.) Shift+D= Lust effects.
F= Big Spender
R= Heal
T= Interrupt
C= AOE
X= Silence
z= (anything)
Also I have ` bound to unsheathe my weapon and shift+` as walk.
The menu keys that are unbound by these keybinds can just be rebound to the same keys with a shift modifier.
I just realized this is basically what you covered as I watched further into the video. I have an easy life because I have massive hands and my thumb naturally rests on the N key lmao
