U need a thermal camera with this device to see the shorted component getting hot. What you did is, you already knew or suspected the short component. Its not practical to keep spreading alcohol all over the board to find the shorted component.
NO _ it is not essential to have a Thermal Camera. You have Thermal sensitive fingers God gave you for FREE Use those - When you have located the approximate area of heat source - use Alcohol or Butane to determine the exact the component in the area.
Got one it didn't last pissing time started playing up after a week on a full charge it lasted 5mins had to keep it plugged in then it had an issue with sending output power to a pcb then it started cutting out.... I bought a I2C Short Killer in the end
I think it is not short detector. It should be called voltage injector or prefixed DC power supply. You can inject voltage with any adjustable DC power supply. It doesn't tell you which component is faulty. It just inject DC power and if the defect component become hot and with help of thermal camera or Alcohol you see the defect component. If it does not become hot, you will not find out which component is the faulty one,.
Sir, what happen when the red probe touch the ground, is it damaged the unit? What if we don't know which one is positive on Motherboard, can we just point it?
If red probe touch the ground the light indicator will goes off meaning it goes to safety mode. If you start at low voltage and do it quick it will not damage the unit. Just observe the current reading.
sir why did you put the voltage to maximum , wont it harm other components in the circuit , think that a short in a circuit could happen because of ocp , ovp, otp to protect the circuit , so if we inject voltage it will damage the other circuits doesnt it , please explain this
The board that i use in this video is operating at 17vdc. The max voltage of VC04 is only 3.8. If we inject voltage the short component will get hot. You should identify it quickly. Injecting the voltage for longer period of time will damage other components. Some are using flir cam after they inject the voltage to find the components that gets hot but flir cam is expensive so in this video i use alcohol. If you will use the VC04 on mobile phone and laptop boards start from the lowest voltage.
Hi friend...first of all resistor dont cause a short. You cannot use this on resistor. If you put on IC you should identify the pin. Because if you put this on the ground pin then it will read short even there is no short. Start from small voltage to be safe...thanks for your comment.
@@biomedicalelectronicsengin7192 yes sir, if you identified the resistor is good, can i place the prove in the resistor to see if there is a short components near the resistor. thanks sir and have a good day.
1. You have to know what is the voltage rail - The reason is that when there are a lower working voltage you apply a higher voltage to - it will destroy the lower-rated voltage components - such as microprocessors and so on. Make sure to know what any particular volt=yage rail you are working on - and what sensitive devices are on that rail before applying an excessive voltage. The tool is dangerous in the hands of the inexperienced and fools - and will damage boards beyond repair if not careful. Make sure to understand the fault-finding process and voltage rails

@@andrew_koala2974 wtf are u talking about? Amperage is a completely valid & correct term to use in this context. In practical terms, it is the amount of current in amps, which is the answer he was looking for, and also the answer that was provided.
@@andrew_koala2974you need to go back to basic electronics to know exactly what you're talking about. Amps is basically the measurement in current flow in relation to voltage, hence current is measured by Amps.
Wow, so it's a glorified rechargeable power supply that is CV selectable 1V8 thru 3V3? I thought the device was going to detect the milli-ohm and micro-ohm short and display it. This is a total waste of cash then, just use your bench supply to do the same? Or am I missing something here?
A switchmode bench supply is useless - as it will trip when a S/C is detected. However one can use a LINEAR power supply. Clearly, you do not understand Power Supplies

My short killer shuts off when i join the probes. Any ideas where the problem is?
The unit itself shut off? For safety reason the blue light indicator will off when you join the probes but not the unit itself.
Thank you
Well done and very interesting. Do you think it is a good device?
Good..but needs extra care. Exposing the board to high current for a long time can damage other components.

Kung shorted ang gpu mag beep din ang multimeter. Start ka muna sa low voltage. Wag masyadong patagalin baka masira ibang component.
