Nobody's ever going to beat Lee Chang ho . His record of being on top for 15 years is dang near unbreakable.

      沒有人可以達成大李的成就,前無古人可能也後無來者。不過卻存在著少數棋風專剋大李的棋士,比如老虎 依田紀基。

@Morten Høgsberg It is not fair to compare by number of years. In the old times, it was just too difficult to find or afford textbooks that people used to think that prime age for Go was 40s. There was a huge barrier, which is why Japan was able to lead. The next generations eventually gained more accessibility. Prime Lee Chang Ho is immeasurable. He was already using AI opening, and most of his best moves could not be found first generations of AI. He left many highest quality god's moves, helped Go society to realize that the prime age is 18 to 23.

especially because there is ai, which means the younger players will have a much larger chance of beating the older ones.

@@beasthundred4709 Lee Changho benefited from being in the last generation before the internet exploded. It is true that internet go existed and was widespread the last six or seven years of his number one status, but artificial intelligence had not yet been invented that could help us improve.
It's interesting that we look at go sagan in a similar manner, but it's impossible to compare the two masters. Seigan benefited as you said from most of the knowledge being centralized in the professional ranks and official schools in Japan.
However, it is also true that he gave one stone handicaps most of the time to all of his major rivals who had ELO scores in the 32-3300s. It is also true that go would win 70- 80% of those games, this indicating that his ELO score was easily over 3500. considering all the advantages he did not have such as artificial intelligence or the internet, this is astounding.

There is less international games and less titles to fight for back in the days. Also back in the days there are less rewards and sponsors, hence less players base.
And Lee chang ho would lose against two shin (shin jinseo and shin minjun) even in their prime days.

The record may probably be wrong as I remember Shin is not always No.1 since 2018, and also Lee Sedol is No.4 when alphago appeared. It's likely a curve so please don't trust the video

modern version of go is Japanese variant of Go, also been an originator of the Game doesn't mean you have to be good at it. Chess is an Indian game but now it's dominated by a Norwegian man lol
