Very sad but interesting at the same time. Seeing that soldier sitting up in a trench like that with clear wounds to the side of his head really hits home. It also shows how those battlefields were just left alone for decades. Very sad 😞

@@kensorke6835 Imagine a Russian counter-offensive beginning with a rolling artillery barrage of literally thousands of 120mm high explosive cannon shells raining down over German defensive positions (or a German barrage over a Russian one)... soldiers in trenches killed and buried instantly like a massive earth-churning apocalypse... and the air above thick with shrapnel and machine-gun fire. Then the Russian armor and infantry crash through leaving little intact or alive. The aftermath is just piles of earth and tracks. Come peacetime, these positions return to farming or grazing fields.. The shallow artifacts get brought to the surface by plows, or whatever is visible gets picked up, but as you can see here, a corpse doesn't have to be more than 3ft deep to remain undisturbed and overlooked for decades.

I returned to the fields of glory,
Where the green grass and flowers grow.
And the wind softly sings the story,
Of the brave lads of long ago.
March no more my soldier laddie,
There is peace where there once was war.
Sleep in peace my soldier laddie,
Sleep in peace, now the battle's o'er.
Some return from the fields of glory,
To their loved ones who held them dear.
But some fell in that hour of glory,
And were left to their resting here.

That skeleton with the fatal head wound whom fell back into the seated position is one of the most remarkable sights I have ever seen.
His position and wound reveal the last moment of his life, one which was immediate and painless, thankfully.
I truly admire the respect and care that you have, these soldiers would truly respect how you treat what remains of their very existence, too.
That such remains still wait to be discovered is quite remarkable.
