In the US they are still metal detecting things from the American Civil War and that ended in 1865. You might be on to something LOL.
Thanks for sharing. You’re finding these items during peace time but all that mud really makes you think how horrendous the conditions must have been back then. It’s always so sad to see the very personal items.

amazing how oxygen deprived freshwater preserves artifacts; items stored in dirt will not last even 10% as long as an item in O2 low fresh. complete opposite for salt water.

Does anyone ever consider that the ordinance found (mortar shells, hand grenades, cartridges, etc.) might, just possible, maybe could blow your asses to tiny bits? I've never seen such careless, nonchalant handling of such potentially deadly items. smh
