I love your videos, as a builder here in New Zealand building multi story apartment blocks, I've now got my team and now my bosses watching your videos and i can tell you have made us check and recheck every trade that comes though our doors, your videos helped us identify red flags pertaining to trades giving us fake paperwork and insurance paperwork, some of the paperwork filed to us was so good some of our government's departments had to do a double take when checking them as they all had the right stamps and signatures, we now have such a robust team of 6 setting standards above and beyond what we would normality do, and we now offer this service to other companies here; which helps off set our fixed costs.

About 15 years ago I looked at a porter Davies display home, it was a rainy day and the carpet in the lounge room was saturated. Water was pouring in from the window. I asked the salesman is this your premium range and he said this build is with all the options we do. A flagship home. I asked does it come with a swimming pool because my feet were soaked wet standing on the carpet. NON COMPLIANT

Nothing would have been done about these defects unless you had identified this. Can you imagine the distress and cost for the owners buying into the property? It would have been a 5 year dance of lawyers and insurance companies all denying there was anything wrong. Seriously the builder should not have a licence. People who cause these sorts of problems should also have to pay a penalty remediation levy to account for the environmental and resource damage caused.

Apparently the crew learned their trades in China, they are using construction techniques from China with materials from China and even instructions on the wall in Chinese. What would you expect? Does the foreman even read enough English to be familiar with the complex Australian building code regulations for bathroom waterproofing or roofing? For an Aussie tiler who has grown up with Aussie standards the waterproofing would be second nature, but certainly not for recent immigrants who still communicate in Chinese on the site. Same for roofing or any other trade. I hope the plumbing has not been done by Chinese plumbers, as in my experience, China has some of the worst plumbing in the world. Homes or condos that fall apart after a few years are called Tofu-dreg in China and are all too common.

Also breaching of the fire seal into the ceiling spaces....A whole host of other things I 'noticed' just with the fire protection - or lack of....FYI...

No qualified Australian tiler would lay tiles without waterproofing, if he does he is liable, same as the waterproofer, he will lose his licence. This is what I mean when I say these big builders are bringing in immigrant workers who will do what their told, half of Melbourne and Sydney would be like this after 20 years of this scam, the project builders have been let run loose for so long I really think it’s beyond fixing. In all honesty it’s human nature to keep pushing the envelope and cut more and more corners if there are no laws to answer to, no different to a drink driver, the only thing that stops them from driving is that there is a 50/50 chance they will get caught

When you have to compete with Chinese prices ( because the tile company is also employing immigrant works, it’s not just builders it’s every trade now ) you have to stoop to Chinese tactics, as I said the Victorian building industry is broken beyond repair. There are not enough inspectors to police it, the criminals outnumber the law men 100/1. Being a builder up here in Cairns QLD, I refuse to bargain with anyone on quotes ( comparing me to a cheaper one ), because I don’t quote to win, I quote to do the job properly, and if no changes are made the price will never change from what we agreed on, a little tip for the homeowner “ cheap becomes expensive “

The admission criteria into the construction industry needs to be more strict.. Like students and those working on visas should all know all the standards, codes, regulations etc. So i'd say it's not easy being a builder bc you'd have to know what the surveyor knows AND do all the labour.
