    What You'll Discover:
    👉NSW Fair Trading's response to our initial findings
    👉The repercussions for the certifier involved in the project
    👉The ongoing problems the homeowner is facing - leaks before move-in!
    👉The importance of due diligence in choosing a builder and certifier

    I was warned about this certifier seven years ago when I first started working in architecture in Sutherland Shire. He had many nicknames but he was referred to as 'Drive-By-Paul' by my old boss. • @Polyphemus.
      @Polyphemus. 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +30

      @@superthevibe Sure is. I've been told he knows his stuff, he's just lazy. He probably turns up to inspections in a nice pair of shoes and neatly pressed trousers. Certainly not the clothes you'd wear to get up and down ladders and crawl around under floors. A lazy certifier allows everybody to take it easy, including designers and architects. The building industry can be very incestuous, designers like working with certain builders, builders like working with certain sub-contractors, etc. It allows for a level of familiarity and routine, but this can often lead to complacency and then downright laziness. This guy survived so long because there were plenty of designers and builders who liked working with him. He made their job easier.

    There sure be a data base, to all the horrible builders that commit this crime. and of lazy or corrupt certifiers. Well done for exposing them on us. and shinning light on what happening to our building industry. I hope our Govt Department take notice and protect home owners who spending so much $$$ to build their home. Should be illegal for building company to add clause on contracts that restrict the home owners to expose them in social media if they deliver such a horrible job and unsafe homes.

      Private building inspectors need customers, so will look over the issues or not look at all so they can get to their next inspection. When it was done by government, it didn't bother them if they had 1 or 10 or 100 inspections to do, they still got paid. Not saying thats the answer, but you would think a 2nd eyeball on every 25 inspections or something to ensure they are actually doing a good job. How many bad builds has this inspector let through...?

    Excellent work Sir and it's gathered the momentum needed (in NSW at least it seems) for the government bodies responsible to start getting out from the comfort of being behind emails and to actually pull their fingers out to do their bloody jobs! Ensure the standards are being applied and applied correctly, those responsible are held accountable when that doesn't happen. The VBA are absolutely derelict in their duty to the Victorian public and honestly, they all need to be sacked OR show cause why they should be maintained as an authority! Shame these lazy bureaucrats by exposing the ongoing failures in the industry they are responsible for regulating!

      While that may be true, being over run with work is no excuse for cutting corners and taking shortcuts with a "she'll be right " attitude The inspectors should be delaying inspections and forcing the government to employ more of them. Its not like work is going to drop off any time soon. Especially when the largest financial investment people will ever make is involved, we are talking close to a million if not more for most houses now days. The government also should step in and make these certifiers maintain their qualifications and have some sort of competency assurance program. I work for an agency in NSW with the government that has hundreds of thousands of people's lives in my hands every day and I have to pass competency testing every 2 years. these guys potentially ruin lives with shonky practices.
      That said the sh*t flows downhill to the builder who if they did their damn job properly the certifier would not have such a hard time and not try to cut corners.

    Music to my ears. I agree, if only the VBA would be proactive and take action against these dodgy builders, so many people's would be saved from suffering the same fate. That also tells me that the VBA are being quiet because they have something to hide. Perhaps in every video, try to encourage the viewers to tag the VBA so it's overwhelming for them and ultimately force their hand. Anyway, we're grateful for your hard work and appreciate your content as it helps so many. 😊

      The shoddy jobs are a side effect of the corruption within the Industry. Good to see that NSW has stepped up and taken some action and hopefully continues to chase dodgy work and Inspection. Australian Standards should be made public too, having a private company charge ridiculous prices for Information and procedures for building compliance just seems stupid.

    A handover defects inspection is something I do on a semi regular basis and we don't see the same issues in the country - from the majority of builders/trades as most - but not all are local and word spreads quickly here.
    I have just had a 'discussion' with a supervisor from a steel frame house builder in Vic which is about 60% as bad as that house - owner has 3 other dwellings on his 'farm' and was building his 'retirement' house, spent close to $900k on the build only, no paths land etc....wanted a handover final done, I guestimated about $130k in repairs needed to bring the house up to par but not to make it perfect, just to make it habitable...VBA needs a sorting out....
