Gay Ghanaians live in fear as enactment of anti-LGBTQ+ law looms | DW News

  • Ghana's president says he's waiting for a Supreme Court ruling before he acts on a new LGBTQ+ bill. Gay sex is already illegal in the country but the latest legislation would extend the ban to same-sex public displays of affection and lobbying for LGBTQ activities. The bill has considerable support locally, and that's a worry for the Ghanaians it targets, as DW's Isaac reports Kaledzi from Accra.

I feel bad for lgbtqia+ Ghanaians. Instead of helping Ghanaians and the economy, these politicians are targeting a vulnerable population for what? To spread fear? Stop worrying about people's private lives. Wasn't homophobia brought to Africa by religious colonizers anyways? Either way, homophobia is not culture. Homophobia is hatred and fear. I wish those who were interviewed would get to know members of the LGBTQ+ community. They would come to realize that everyone deserves rights and protections from discrimination.

Shame Ghana shame. Instead of worrying about the economy, they spend their time worrying about people's underpants and what happens in people's bedrooms. This is concerning and Ghanaians should be worried, it's not a good sign.
This law can be used to go after political opponents. A mere allegation can get you to jail cause there isn't a way of proving the allegation without catching people in the act. Like accusation of witchcraft this law will only apply to the poor.
As Africans we need to distance ourselves from religion it has cause us more harm than anything in the world. It's funny watching people claim bigotry is their culture yet they can't make that claim without falling back on religion brought here by the same people they're arguing against.

As a progressive Hindu from India, I am sincerely concerned about the well-being of my fellow citizens. Recently, an extremist group known as the NSCN has issued an ultimatum to the transgender community, urging their departure from Nagaland state. In light of this egregious threat, I fervently advocate for decisive action from the New Delhi and militaries around our world. A strategic military intervention against this group is imperative to safeguard the fundamental rights and security of all citizens in and beyond my India. Homophobia is a misnomer. There are many different reasons for having a stance against the LGBT movement. Most antigay modivations have a basis in religion. Others may not be comfortable speaking openly about sex whether they are heterosexual or otherwise. When I was at university 20 years ago or so, we studied early childhood development and how it affects sexuality. Often, there are events in early childhood that can affect gender identity. Making homosexuality illegal is ignorant.
