Nice terraces. I really like the look of that. And, of course, you are right about the logs will last longer than the cut wood. God bless you and all the helpers you have. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The greenhouse log supports look fantastic. I also think permanent raised beds will be easier to grow your veggies. Meg looks great and no doubt is feeling the weight of your newborn. This is the time to give Meg a bit more TLC, she is growing the next generation of Hollars.❤🎉
It won’t be long until new baby will be here, is Buggy excited, I know dad and mom are, especially mom, the last weeks are hard, carrying all the extra weight, I cannot wait to see the new baby, thank you bringing us along on your homesteading journey, and sharing your wonderful family with your TH-cam family!
Love seeing the old ways of "using what you got" and "free". So many homesteads are supporting Lowe's and Home Depot for every out building and project when I am use to those being "off the land" or " salvage". Many a three sided lean-to out of cedar posts from the land, long thin tall saplings for nailers and salvage barn metal. Great for tractor sheds, implement storage, etc. Nothing really needs to be perfect but they are workable at no cost but labor. Yup, chain saw is close enough for this style of building. Leave the tape measure in the shop. Yes, they will rot eventually but when it is free, you can replace it.
I love the way you 'terraced' the beds with the logs themselves! I was imagining you digging into the hill, leveling, then adding the logs. This way was so much easier, and more logical! Same end result, less unnecessary work. Clearly it is still possible to teach old dogs like me new tricks! 👍
Going barefooted in warm weather is one of my favorite memories of childhood. I see your children are fond of it too. Not every outdoor activity is safely performed without foot coverings. One of those is digging with shovels to move dirt around or dig a hole, or gutter. Safety is the issue. One misplaced thrust of a shovel can result in an injured foot. Adults don’t go about their work outside in bare feet for that same reason.
At my parents farm there was a huge Boulder right in a major pathway. No one could shift it, till one day I slipped from the Boulder into the conveniently positioned greengage tree and spiked a long graze on my arm. Dad passed me his crowbar, which strongly resembled yours, and they all gathered to watch as I prised that Boulder loose. Dad then passed the crowbar to me when he passed. It’s called Boudicca after the Celtic queen who rode a chariot with a long spear in hand. As my granddaughters middle name is also Boudicca, she will inherit it when I pass. 🇦🇺🎸⚡️🤘🏿🤘🏼💋❤️
Ben you have the best ideas and work hard to get them accomplished. You are teaching your children to to the same! Meg, I am praying for you and your baby.
I love your idea using the logs as garden supports. It makes to use what have for your organic garden beds. Buggy is definitely going through a growing spurt and will be a great help to Meg once the baby arrives.
Com’on guys! Tell us about baby gender, plzzz?!? Another home birth Ben, thz rough timber logs look fantastic. I can invision the whole hillside of those which will bring in tons of more homegrown food. Yay!
You are so like us …. Repurpose/Reuse…especially if it’s something from Mother Nature. I love the look already ‼️ Meg, the time is coming soon👶 You have so many helpers for sure 🤩 You are a blessed family💖💖👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Ben discard ( firewood ) the Tulip Poplar wood, that will rot the fastest when having ground contact, cause it attracts bugs that starts rot process ! Some old Barns are ( carefully ) built with Poplar wood, cause it gets harder and harder with age, but never use in moisture areas for buildings or walls, Poplar is mostly used structurally for furniture wood ! Just mentioning; Poplar wood makes lots and lots of ash and burns quickly, it should be first big log in fireplace or stove, but no more after that, cause it doesn't last long for heating overnight and requires too much firebox cleanouts, but is the best campfire wood if constantly fed to fire !
Our Love to you all, and LOT"S of it. So enjoyable to be part of a real family, seeing it all come together. along with notes of interest. Nothing like it.
Really Really enjoyed seeing how you have taken nothing and making something so productive as I can imagine these beds will be.... Great Job...Great Kids... Great Build...😊
Ben looks to have put on some weight... It looks great on you.. And Meg i can totally see the position your little baby is in .... Its getting exciting! ❤ love your channel! I love it so much i put it on in the morning first thing and let it just run through all of your videos and i sit down here and there and watch your videos all day everday...❤
Just wanted to tell you how much you are loved and appreciated. Your family was the first I followed on TH-cam and I have enjoyed watching you all grow up. Thank you for sharing your story with us. God bless you in all your endeavors. Best wishes for a healthy and happy baby!
It’s awesome that you have connections to get all the wood chips and logs sent to you! You built the Terrace was neat! It is beautiful I love it! Enjoyed the story of how you acquired the prybar. Your grandpa was very lucky that it didn’t tear up their RV!
That pry bar has a great story. We borrowed my dad's pry bar for at least 10 years before he was like yeah it's yours now. My memory of it was helping my dad dig holes for a fence when I was a kid. Also I love seeing Meg out of that kitchen and soaking up some sunshine! ☀️
Adding more garden space is always a good thing for a growing family!! Buggie did a fine job gathering the morning eggs!!! You're such a good helper, Buggie!!! Have a good weekend Hollar family!
YT fed me an old video of yours today, I just watched the one titled “We are so awkward”. I don’t know how often you go back and watch your own videos, but it might be a fun walk down memory lane for you. Ben had short hair, the boys were so small (and wearing shoes, lol), and you hadn’t yet taken to the road. It said it was six years ago, it’s amazing how fast time flies by, and how quickly kids grow. 💙
Love those terraced log beds! They look beautiful there! Meg was right- the bigger logs look better! Looks like a beautiful day! Loved hearing the story about Meg’s grandpa!
It took me 1... 2.... 3... to figure out "fivehead." Both the pig and the chicken compost are beyond beyond. Because of Ben, I know more about composting that anyone I have ever met. Thank you for that. Love me some Holler Homestead.
I'm so glad you finally found a tree service willing to work with you -- you've been trying for so long. And that "woody stuff" on top could work as mulch.
I added more raised garden beds. I have the urge to grow more food. Awesome that your adding more garden beds that cost your time. Wishing you an abundant harvest this year. Buggy is getting so big. All of your children have great work ethics, just like their parents. Love your channel.❤❤❤
Our landlord was in his late 80's when he let us use his long medal rod to pull huge rocks out of our garden area. He used it on the rail road line tracks when he was young. He had it for years. Alot of stories he talked about. Memories from the elders. Blessings
I love that. My dad was 92 when he passed in 2021, and was still very sharp mentally. I loved hearing all his stories of growing up in the depression, lying about his age and joining the Navy at 17, coming home from his tour and buying his first dairy farm. He was the hardest working man I’ve ever known - he ‘semi retired’ at 72, and was still mowing his own lawn when he went to assisted living at 90. He also NEVER met a stranger, had a slightly naughty sense of humor, and was kind right down to his soul.
I like your terraced log garden beds. The story about the pry bar was awesome. That is interesting that there is nicer dirt deeper in the ground. That looks really nice guys! I'm glad you're getting out of the sun. I'm glad you had enough of the two composts to fill the beds. It'll look so nice when you're able to do this all along your garden beds. You've only been there for 5 years and you've done so much! Thanks for this video Hollar family!
Great use of the logs...new beds to grow food and also stop additional erosion of the hillside. They are going to look fantastic when all your plants start producing. Come canning season Meg, I think you may have to hire a mother's helper to baby watch while you can. Y'all have a Blessed day.
That's so cool! Use some aloe vera gel a few times on the sun burn and it will sooth it! 3 to 4 times or more it's really helpful for any burns! Blessings!
I really love your sweet family! My hubby and I have been following you since BEFORE you kids found your NC homestead property. We have learned a lot about gardening etc. from you. God bless!
That pile of wood/logs and wood chips get my blood flowing..so jealous..im almost out of my stock pile..9 years I got out of it..nuts really..one or two big jobs and you got wood for a good while... p.s them beds look amazing
Totally love you guys. I can’t wait for Tuesday and Thursday ♥️ I’ve narrowed down my list and kept you guys of coarse, Three Rivers , little mountain ranch and roots and refuge 🥰. I use just the iPhone and it’s SO much faster now 👍. Also got rid of double photos. One or both freed up my phone a LOT. Meg, you look like you’re to that time when it’s like I’M READY … you were quite far in when you guys shared with us though huh… cause when I thought you were looking ready I thought gee wasn’t that long ago you’s told us 😄 then realized you had a nice little belly bump at that announcement ♥️ Little Miss Buggy is gonna be a little mommy ♥️ Can’t wait to meet the baby 🤗. Thinking to send a gift card so you can get what you need or want for the new babe. Never have enough diapers seems to be the case for most, and some ask for the next size up from newborn 🤷♀️ So, you’d be in a better place to know WHAT you wanna do ♥️ Need a PO AND a store name? Or maybe just a Visa card - all stores will take those

My prayers dear Meg 🙏
That is so great you literally built those garden beds for the cost of your invested labor. Now that-s pretty darn sustainable

Don't forget that the tiered garden beds are also Megs' ideas.
Great prybar story. Family is everything.
I love your idea using the logs as garden supports. It makes to use what have for your organic garden beds. Buggy is definitely going through a growing spurt and will be a great help to Meg once the baby arrives.
All the kids will hopefully. The boys were a huge help when Lilyanna was born.
Com’on guys! Tell us about baby gender, plzzz?!? Another home birth
Ben, thz rough timber logs look fantastic. I can invision the whole hillside of those which will bring in tons of more homegrown food. Yay!
I like the rustic look of the logs. Good to use what the tree services have given you along with the chips

Meg, the time is coming soon👶 You have so many helpers for sure 🤩
You are a blessed family💖💖👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Thank you for sharing the story of your heirloom pry bar Ben. It was very touching.
Ben and Meg I like how you guys work together on the homestead. I fell off my chair when I saw the two boys passing the dirt on the spades! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I love how you use what you already have, instead of spending money where you really don't need to. Reuse, repurpose, recycle!

That was funny when you had to look back at Meg and Buggy to get them to say bye. Loved it.
Buggy is getting soooo big and so is belly baby xxx
I love ALL The Hollar Homestead videos!
Me too🎉
Me too
What!?! I saw you, Meg, holding a shovel, moving dirt. No, no, no. 😂 This is your rest and relax time. ❤🤗I’m a big Meg fan.❤🤗

You know you could cut up some of those oak logs and make Mushroom logs with them. More food for the family!
Agree! Buy mushroom spore online; drill holes in the logs and fill. Seal with wax.
Agreed!
I love Mushrooms 🍄
Love your videos, your a lovely family, with everyone helping out, can’t wait to see the baby

Hi..... Meg and Ben thanks you for showing your video homestead bye
LOVE IT !!! Amazing way to utilize the sloped area. Buggy has had a growth spurt !!!!
I love the tiered garden with the use of the logs. Using what you have is the part I like the best and the fact it’s different. Good job y’all

Buggy does look like she grew a foot taller in a short while. Healthy girl😊
Hey Hollers, the Terrace gardens are gorgeous 🎉.
I believe Grandpa loved that you love his granddaughter ❤!
JO JO IN VT 💞
Love those terraced log beds! They look beautiful there! Meg was right- the bigger logs look better! Looks like a beautiful day! Loved hearing the story about Meg’s grandpa!
Beautiful, I like seeing the finished section. Love seeing everyone pitching in.😊
Ben got his tractor back! Yay!
Love the story about the pry bar. Buggy is such a special little girl💕
I love the look of the logs raised beds, looks cool!

You should check out the garden beds on Acre Homestead. They have a lot of beds, very nicely put together. I love watching the results of your labor.👍
Great use of what your land provides! I usually find things that i need in our old shed and say, "The shed will provide!" 😄
Great to see Meg resting, and Buggys a big girl now👏👏👏👏
I'm so glad you finally found a tree service willing to work with you -- you've been trying for so long. And that "woody stuff" on top could work as mulch.
I’m so excited to watch this video tonight as we are creating terraces this weekend with our logs! Thank you for sharing with us!

Great video today! You've inspired me to fix my sloping garden. -Mike
When last fall’s cold weather pants are now half way to her knees- Buggy has grown a lot! ❤️🙏👏🏻
Thanks for letting us visit

Wow, wonderful terrace beds! Thanks for sharing! Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
OMG!!! Buggie has had a growth spurt! She is so tall and looks like a kiddo instead of a toddler!
I was going to say the same thing. So much taller !
Buggie, is Beautiful 😍
More beds are a plus for a growing family . 😊
Those beds look like a good place for some plants to live.
I cant wait to see how Megs herb garden starts to take shape
Love the story of the pry-bar. I know every time you use it, you think of Meg's grandpa.
💕💗💕🙏🙏🙏 Wow, really like the look of the log raised bed. What a great idea! Glad you have your tractor back. Have a blessed week, in Jesus name 💕💗💕

I see Buggy as the "baby watcher"!!!
@@deborahjennings4119 I'm sure she'll be a good help but during canning season takes an adult.
The boys help out with babies. They were always around to watch over Buggy and will be there for the new one, too.
@@stephaniewilson3955 Yes they were. That's a fact.
Beautiful bed Ben. Love the strength of them…👏👏👏👏🇦🇺

Buggie is getting so big now! They sure grow quickly!
In that garden everything is growing quickly😊😅.
I remember Ben “catching her”💜
You could see megs shoulders get red during the time lapse. Very cool way to make beds.
That pile of wood/logs and wood chips get my blood flowing..so jealous..im almost out of my stock pile..9 years I got out of it..nuts really..one or two big jobs and you got wood for a good while... p.s them beds look amazing
Blessings as always to you and your family🌟
Love the garden beds, use it up and wear it out.
I love this family and their videos!!❤❤❤
Nothing like a good pry bar! Blessings
Yay! Got your tractor back!!
Small ish hardwood is apparently good for growing mushrooms if you can get hold of incubated dowls to put in them, if you have any logs left.
Absolutely loving the new garden beds! Fabulous way to use up those logs!
Safe delivery Meg ❤❤❤❤❤
Way kool idea for the beds. No cost just stuff you had already and some labor!

You can see the slope much better with the beds in place. How are you going to get to the middle of the beds? Will you put in stepping stones and sacrifice some of the planting space? They are lovely big logs! And look amazing.

I love it. I have a slope in my backyard. Because I am a visual learner it was hard for me to see how to terrace. Thank you for showing us how you did it. Buggie is so adorable and big now. You look beautiful Meg.
As things go! Homesteading is about family togetherness building stuff, growing stuff then repeat great episode Hollar Homestead 👍💏👶🧒🧑🌼🌾🏡👍
What about charring the logs first? If you continue that, that would be cool to see and it could be a long term experiment. 😊
I like the new garden bed look! They look cool!
My Dad made forms for garden beds with 90 degree reber for the corners and used motor oil on the forms to release the cement about 2inches thick. It's been 30 years and they are still there. Just a thought.
Yup! you need to really char them to keep them from rotting. All us homesteaders are jealous of all the wood chips and logs.
The oak posts on our horse pasture are over 30 years old and some are still fine, and it's quite wet over winter here. Those beds could last quite a while.
We bought our first house in 1975. There was a prybar and a tamping bar in the shed along with a double bitted axe, splitting maul, mattock and assorted shovels and rakes. I still have the prybar, tamping barand most of the other tools.
I love the beds!
😳 Holy moly, girl! Twins??! Lol!!
I can't believe how tall buggy has gotten!
Very nice terraced garden beds! Creative!
New beds!!! Very cool looking! 👍🙌💪
5:50 OMG - what are you feeding Buggie? Miracle Gro?
Five Head! Made me actually lol.
