    This is great Chris. Thank you. I am in Australia and have a scotch bonnet bush that has been fantastic this year. I have used a few of your recipes for sauces etc and have had some recent success with a lacto-ferment hot sauce using them. Love your scotch bonnet content in particular.

    It's that time of year to think peppers again! I just started my bonnet seeds well most of my pepper seeds this past weekend here in Eastern Ontario. Nice update, enjoy.

    I'm thinking about growing these myself. I was a bit scared of them, but my heat tolerance is improving. And seeing your recipes, the flavor that this pepper should provide sounds very interesting.

    Most pepper plants are perennial plants. My son bought a lemon drop pepper plant last year. We brought most of them in before the frost in canada. Took them out later in spring and bingo we have a plant thriving on our deck producing beautiful fruit now. The sad part is that we bought 4 new different plants in the spring. He's gonna want to bring those in as well 😅.

    Chris, thank you for this video. There is nothing in the pepper world as regal as the lovely Scotch Bonnet. It is the king of the super note. I have two gallons of Scotch Bonnet mash that has been fermenting for 16 months. The ferment is a vacuum ferment and the mash is absolutely clean. Not a sign of any yeast at all. I plan to move them to sauce blending in two more months. Keep up the good work, my friend.
    I need a better source for scotch bonnet and habanero peppers. I need about 500 pounds of each this upcoming season. Do you have any sources in the Caribbean? I would love any contacts you might be able to offer. Again, thank you.

    My mother is from Belize 🇧🇿 so we use habanero peppers (I'm not sure if it's the same as scotch bonnet so please let me know!) and she periodically adds new peppers to the pepper sauce in the refrigerator to keep it hot 🔥🔥🔥

    So when I used to grow and dehydrate habenaros in the oven...
    I was doing so and a friend came over and smelled the sweetness they gave off. He asked what I was making and I said candy. He asked for a taste ......I couldn't resist ;-)
    He took the habenaro into his mouth and chewed it up, I saw his face turn bewildered, got red, then pissed! He knocked the mess out of me for that but the best part is a seed got stuck in between his teeth!!

      Jeremy Knapp my hubby and I bought 6 Aerogarden prior to him passing he enjoyed growing veggies year round after he was advised by cardiologist to give up outdoor gardening. They also helped him to keep busy during our long winter months. Sadly this week when I tried to get bulbs for one of the Aerogardens I was toldby their head office in the US they no longer carty that model nor do they have the bulbs for it. I was shocked when they suggested I buy a new one. They even offered seed kits and a discount to entice me to purchase. I said thanks but no thanks.
      We live in a throw away society where companies keep upgrading and forcing you to keep buying. I will never buy another Aerogarden. I will stockpile the bulbs they still have fir the other models before they too become obsolete.

Show them to any Hot pepper enthusiast...those are Habaneros!

    Not true Scotch Bonnet peppers I grew up with. True Scotch Bonnet are flat looking and have distinctive flavour those peppers do not have. Those peppers are grown in other islands and sold as Scotch Bonnet. I get true Scotch Bonnet peppers from Blue Sky Supermarket in Pickering. I have true plants from peppers my sister brought for me. These peppers are NOT.

      There are a few varieties of Scotch Bonnet Peppers Liz. I've planted a few already. Know that Scotch Bonnets are not native nor exclusive to Jamaica

    • @MrPhilsAlabamaHotSauce
      @MrPhilsAlabamaHotSauce 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Liz, it sounds like you are describing the Fatalii Scotch Bonnet pepper. They are elongated and slightly cupped on two opposite sides. I think the peppers Chris was showing have the common name "Caribbean Red" Scotch Bonnets. They have a much more floral flavor than the longer Fatalii. Caribbean Reds are also a little hotter (typically) than Fatalii. One really positive attribute of the Fatalii is the thicker flesh.

    • @lizbenjamin6995
      @lizbenjamin6995 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are not elongated @Alabama hotsauce. I had sent a photo of real Jamaican Scotch Bonnets to Chris. When I plant my plants in tropical/violet soil they keep their shape. My hubby tried planting in our garden here in Ontario and the peppers grew like the ones Chris has here and also grew larger without the distinctive aroma or flavour. I am Jamaican born and bred. I also took scotchbonnet peppers to my mother in law in Grenada eons ago and they never took the true shape there either. I got some at our supermarket grown in a greenhouse in southern Ontario near Leamington and again they looked like those from Dominican and no arome or flavour. I also grow the chocolate coloured ones and although they do not have the same shape they have the aroma and flavour and are hotter than the flat Bonnets.

    • @lizbenjamin6995
      @lizbenjamin6995 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris I have yet to see our flat Scotch Bonnets anywhere else. Even In Trinidad I have never seen them and I have asked my in laws and family there.
