In today's episode, we're gonna try to run Windows XP from an iPod by using a program called MojoPac. This tool allowed you to create a portable virtual machine that could be stored on an iPod or USB drive!

TL;DR: MojoPac isn't a virtual machine software, but is more similar to an application like Sandboxie.

If you want an environment you can conceal, certainly using your handset with a cable can do just that provided the handset's firmware supports it.

@justsomevm What I'd want is basically a way to directly boot off an operating system stored on my phone when connected by USB, for example if I could put an Ubuntu ISO on my phone and plug it into a computer then boot to Ubuntu from it, that could be really useful.

Isn’t iTunes still a thing in macOS, but just tucked in the “Music” app and called the iTunes Store? It’s also an app on iOS/iPadOS.
To be fair though, a lot of iTunes functionality was moved into the Music app.

Very cool idea but if you want it to be a little bit quicker then the flash drive option would be the best but the iPod is a very portable and doubles as a music player so I will probably go with the iPod. As I have an iPod and a Windows XP computer I should try this out.

I simultaneously enjoyed this and was sad you didn't manage to run XP *completely* off an iPod. (yes, I know this could never work unless it by an iPod touch, and we all know those aren't real iPods.) But really, this was fun and is making me want to play with XP again.

Should combine this with the SDcard adapter, that replaces the internal HDD. They even make them now that can accept up to like 4 SDcards. I just started using my original 5th gen Video ipod as a daily driver. Personally i run Rockbox on mine - not having to be tied to itunes is great. Itunes is a resource hog running on windows. But there is a noticeable difference in load times off of an SD card. Not sure the read speed of the default HDD, it was made by Toshiba, but read/write speeds seemed rather slow, SD was a definite improvement

Fun fact. The speed of usb connection isnt 2.0 as its the IPod 30pin. The lightning cable can take advantage of the speed, but the 30 pin was designed for a connection before USB (I just remember it as IOIOI), it was ported to USB, so yes, its slower then usb 2

As someone who owns an iPhone, I don't use iTunes on my laptop running Windows 10 to transfer music, ringtones or videos to it as it constantly fails with an unknown error, there are some alternatives out there, but the best alternative I found is DearMob iPhone Manager for Windows, and I use it all the time yo transfer media over to and from my iPhone 6S to my Laptop, the kicker is that it NEVER fails to transfer anything over, and it installs the iTunes drivers for Windows but are used by this program instead of iTunes itself.
