  • By 2050, 30% of Bangladesh will be under water. One in three inhabitants, some 60 million people, are threatened by marine flooding. No other country in the world is so at risk from rising waters. The main culprit: global warming.
    00:00 Bangladesh, a sunken country
00:14 🌊 The Sundarbans region in Bangladesh is highly vulnerable to rising sea levels, causing displacement, loss of homes, and economic impacts.
06:55 🌍 An investigation into the consequences of climate change in Bangladesh, a country threatened by natural disasters and struggling for survival.
13:17 💔 Child marriages in Bangladesh are on the rise due to the high cost of education, low income, and the impact of climate change.
19:14🌊 The rising water levels in Bangladesh are causing dangerous situations and accidents, leading to a need for swimming lessons for children.
26:08🌊 The fashion industry and leather tanneries in Bangladesh are contributing to the pollution of rivers, endangering the environment and public health.
33:25 🌍 The leather and textile industries in Bangladesh are causing severe environmental pollution and health issues for workers.
39:21 💔 The Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh led to the death of 1,135 workers, but some factories are making efforts to improve safety and sustainability.
45:50 🏭 The story highlights the importance of workplace safety and the positive impact of modern factories on workers' lives.

As a Bangladeshi, It's good to see that international community try to engage in climate crisis and lot of others issues.
Bangladesh have a lot of others challenges that need to be overcome such as corruption, poor political system, dutch disease, poor govt institutions, poor education system and a lot.
Hopefully, Good day will come for Bangladesh.

Water flowing to Bangladesh through rivers when in excess should be controlled by India. These should be diverted to deserts of Rajasthan. Recently there was huge floods in Northern India. There was a menacing floods in Pakistan in the recent past too. Whole subcontinent should unite in the management of Water.

You are dead right. Construct a huge canal to divert nearly all of the water of the Yamuna, large enough to take all of the Monsoon water, just south of Delhi westwards to Rajasthan would benefit everyone.
That said, there is no point in Bangladeshis building dykes out of mud. Rock should be brought from the Himalayas and dumped to provide a proper barrier to the rivers and along the coast. Instead of sitting around all day complaining, Bangladeshis should build platforms on their land several feet high on which to build their houses, then, if the rest of the land floods, the house will stay dry. Every effort should be made to reinforce the edges of such islands to avoid erosion. If the Country took the decision to dredge out a large lake on the path of the Brahmaputra, the water would slow and drop its' sediment. This could be continuously dredged to build up the land behind the sea and river defences. A lot of lazy people would have to do some work but it is better than sitting around complaining and then losing all of your possessions to a flood. It requires Government action but the Government is so corrupt that it will not do what is necessary. With rising sea level possibly as much as 30 ft in the next 100 years, much of Bangladesh is probably doomed but it can be later rather than sooner if some action is taken. It would give a breathing space to do something about breeding. The situation could be greatly helped if the Bangladeshi Government introduced a Chinese-style one child policy. As the Chinese have found it takes decades before population growth is stopped. It was only last year that the Chinese population fell by just over a thousand. As the Chinese found, their one child policy made the Chinese economic miracle possible and people stopped dying before their time. It may be some time before the population crisis can be turned around but it will be far worse if indiscriminate breeding continues.

You can't blame the consumer's of the cheap fashion, it's the responsibility of the Bangladeshi government to enforce laws on the international corporations who set up shop there.
The hypocrisy of the European and Western countries, who sanction these countries for not being environmentally responsible, when it is their hides being tanned and their corporations responsible for this damage.
The western world exports pollution to the less developed countries, and then points fingers at them when they have mountains of rubbish everywhere and dead river systems.
The gap between the poor and the middle class is more of a canyon than a gap, very much like what is also happening in the West. The apartment at the end overlooking the river is beautiful, but it won't be worth much once the river's clogged with plastic bottles and trash.
    Excellent documentary, thank you.

It is the same in Africa and the Philippines. There were efforts to provide contraception by western countries but this was smashed down, these western countries often being accused of eugenics. This will be your religious and cultural leaders in action. Some data. New Zealand where I am, population is 5 million and that is a disaster, life was much better when it was 2.5 million in 1960.
