The CS-2 in the center of my intro animation was a little nod to him. I know that's one of his favorite pedals, and I miss being able to go to TH-cam and hear him talk about music and pedals. I can't wait to do a video with him on the show once he's feeling better.
This is awesome Janek! I knew you were putting a lot of effort into these pedal videos, but this is inane. There are a lot of great youtube videos for guitar, but finding bass videos is difficult, so I am really excited for all of these videos! Looks like I am definitely going to pickup the Dubterranea when it comes out because IE packs a lot into one box.
Janek Gwizdala Nice! I’ve had the DB924 for years and love it. Psyched to see how the DB925 compares. If you need a DB924 for comparison, let me know 👍🏻
Janek Gwizdala you’re so right, it’s also an opportunity for me to find a new amp as mine recently died at a gig. Can you do a vid on how to tame an envelope filter and using it on active and passive pickups, that’s something that boggles me at time . Thanks
@@cameronlesley2428 I'm not Janek but seeing as you havent gotten a response then maybe I can help. I would say it depends on the envelope pedal you're using. Generally you can increase / decrease your signal volume before the pedal which will cause it to trigger differently, additionally you can use compression to change the character of the filter.
this is freaking awesome Janek!! this is now on the shopping list once income returns in some sort of stable way!! also thanks so much for the content you and Chelsea are putting out, its really helping those of us feeling a little isolated and down right now
I love how you silently vocalize the filter sounds with your mouth while working the expression pedal treadle! Commitment, lol. Great playing as always.
me tooooooo! I can't finally share my insane collection that has been growing over the past 20+ years, and also discover some things about these pedals for the first time myself.
I thought that kind of Ex pedal doesn’t work properly with the xenograph…. That u need one with a max trim instead of a min trim. Tell me I’m wrong so I don’t need to buy a new ex pedal now that I’m figuring out my new xenograph.
Shoot Out videos are definitely on the list. I'll probably wait a few weeks before I get into those, as some pedal builders have shown some interest in having their pedals be a part of shoot outs. Always nice to do one of those videos with a wide selection of functions, price range, and build style.
I've been gone from your channel for about a year now (working on my own stuff), but I love the upgrade to your TH-cam Channel! Awesome sounding pedal too! Will have to pick one up myself one day!
I can definitely tell that the Dubterranea sounds like an OC2, and I loved how the two oscillators allow you to really shape the way the octave behaves. However, it seems that whenever you flip the middle switch to engage the higher octave, it doesn't seem to either track your playing or generate a consistent sound. It sounded very choppy, and it got really apparent at 8:34. It doesn't really matter to me THAT much, but it's not convincing enough for me to replace my Synth Voice from Broughton Audio. They really made that pedal sound like a synth bass! You should really check it out!
Spot on. Having owned a Dubterranea I can attest to the synth section not tracking well in the higher register of the neck. It's predecessor, the Subterranea, tracks much better & is one of mt favorite pedals. The Subterranea doesn't have the upper octave but I never used that anyway so not something I miss.
Love the series. Maybe in the future you could try and do more or less the same but using some of the oldies like CS2 into OC2 into Moog MF-101. That would be super cool for the lovers of old pedals :)
big time. Old school is coming. I have used so many combinations of pedals for synth sounds before, I'm definitely going to shoot an episode that looks at the different multi-pedal old-school options.
I would like to see reviews of any octavers with reference to either the Boss OC-2 or OC-3. Please? Also the Source Audio Bass distortion/fuzz (copper color?).
Excellent video. I adjust my playing with pedals like these (have the SubT). Deadnotes usually don't sound too good, so the funky riffs have to be quite adjusted to not do them to get the groove going. Subscribed!
Great video and great pedal! I would have appreciated hearing more subtle and “useful” sounds but I’m sold either way! Looking forward to more of these!
Without a third toggle switch position, I don't think that would be possible. It's definitely not possible on this iteration of the unit. Not that I wouldn't be curious as to what that sounds like, but there is more than enough range the way it is right now, and I know I'm only scratching the surface with what this thing can do.
I asked that because many sounds of Dub... are interesting For example I used to combine octave down (OC 2) and octave up classic preference (Sub n Up TC Electronic).
Although the Octo-synth voice can only be octave down or up at a time,, you can have the Octaver voice (one octave down), the unison synth, and octave up synth all going simultaneously, for 3 simultaneous octaves plus your clean signal.
So what we hear is just the Zoom recorder audio? sounds great. Big diference in these sounds beetwen the line sound and the speaker and room listening.
This is a studio setup for audio now... I use Logic, and an SM7 for the voice. And then the signal chain for the bass is as described in the video, plus a little bleed of course from the vocal mic while I'm playing and talking at the same time.
Hey Janek! Great info, cool video. How would you go about using delay/tremolo in a live situation? Do you have experience using midi to sync up with other sources? For example if a tune is based on or involves a synth sequence from keyboards. Any suggestions on good delay/tremolo pedals with midi sync capabilities?
@@gordonbennett7931 Not sure yet, dealing with some parts shortages due to lockdown here in the US, but the price will be around the same as others at ironether.com/shop
Such an amazing pedal, already loving the series janek. Suggestion: Hall of Fame within the signal chain and how to get the best out of that pedal.( I don't have one unfortunately but I do own a OCEANS 11 that is getting the job done)
@@janekgwizdala Hey Janek, great review! Looking forward to this series. How does the Dubterranea compare with the 3 leaf Audio Octabvre (mini) in terms of sound and tracking?
I love my Iron Ether pedals. My only gripe is that they don't support MIDI. I can get so many amazing different sounds from my Xerograph Deluxe but since I can't save and recall them combining them one after another is difficult and sometimes impossible. Nevertheless, great products and great customer service.
It's coming... Not sure what Iron Ether's turn around is going to be like with our current crisis, but they're good at keeping in touch if you hit them up on Instagram. And as a small business, I'm sure they'll be happy for any attention you care to give this, or any of their other incredible pedals.
Another killer video Janek!
Juan will be stoked when he sees this.

me realizing the pedal is not even connected just towards the end of the video- priceless

Thanks. The combination of those pedals are mad. I really appreciate how you showed the full face of the pedal showing the settings!
So psyched to see this. I hope it’s a long running series! Pedal suggestion: Aguilar DB925
That pedal is on its way to me right now, and will definitely be featured in an upcoming episode on pre amps and boosts.

Fantastic intro. I love pedals on bass, I just wish my audiences shared my love of quirky sounds, oh wait no gigs 😒
The gigs will be back! and in the meantime, we can dial in the best sounds we've always been too "busy" to work on.

with Dubterranea Is it possible having both up n down octaves at the same time (dual octave)?

What kind of bass is Janek playing? I dig it. I’m a sucker for PJ’s. But this is truly a P and a J. Please advise.
Can You please review the strymon volante?
So do the knobs for the synth section act as volume knobs?
Yes, they blend the selected wave form in and out of the mix. With zero synth level being at 12 o'clock.
Janek Gwizdala couldn’t tell if it was that or morphing between the square -> pulse waves. Sounds are killer though! Definitely needed headphones 😂

Is this polyphonic? Because I'm amazed
not at all, it is very touchy & tracking isnt the best but if you like glitched out grooves it can work
what bass is that one ¿?

Oh iron ether....
My suggestion would be demo the pedal on its own no add ons , I just want to hear the pedal with no colouring added.
The Oct 2 is a cool concept.. But the tracking could be better. The MXR and EBS octave pedals do a better job of tracking in my opinion
