I always thought turtles were the ones who lived in the water (sea) and tortoises were the ones who lived on land. The Turtles of Iowa sounds like a book I want to read! I will have to watch for it. (thanks for talking about this book)
Hahaha I need more context on this birders are insane. I love watching birds, but to be fair I love watching animals in general, birds are just a lot more visible. We have some bird reservations here in England, and they become sanctuary spaces for all sorts of creatures.
On the point of newspapers, is there actually anybody born after 1960 who still reads newspapers talking about the importance of having book reviews in newspapers just seems extremely out of touch with the realities of the transmission of information in the 2020s Edit: a quick google search shows that only 12% of American adults read newspapers

I live in Georgia and when I leave for work in the morning I hear an owl 🦉 but I never see it.
