- Junee Roundhouse in Junee NSW is a great place for a tour or visit to some fascinating rail history. The website is: roundhouse museum.com.au. Please consider visiting this place when you get the opportunity. It is a wonderful museum with great and enthusiastic volunteers.
On 20th October 2010 NR56 was turned on the turntable due to the need for this loco to lead a Melbourne bound train. It was rare to see a Pacific National locomotive turned here, and an NR to boot. For those keen eyed viewers someone has marked in the grime a call to their football team the Geelong Cats. Who answer that call the next year in winning the Premiership.
The 100 foot turntable, one of the biggest in NSW having been in use since 1947 has witnessed so much NSW rail history and being there with the exhibits and seeing the still working side of the roundhouse complimenting the museum itself is something to appreciate. From steam locos, preserved historic diesels to the outside where locos are serviced is almost unique given the public access afforded by the presence of the museum.
Please enjoy this short presentation. You may hear a very young boy identifying the NR as it moves towards the turntable, such is the joy of seeing locos and trains and especially this close (and behind a barrier I hasten to add).
As this is published on Christmas Day, Merry Christmas to you and your family.
