Sam, my family just visited Hampton this past weekend in an Airbnb, coming back from Richmond after I had already lived in the area for several years. Honestly, we spent a lot of the weekend laughing about the fact that your video paints this lovely city in such a terrible light.
('You may regret moving here. Well maybe you'll find something you like if your standards are low enough. One thing that's bad about Hampton is that it takes a long time to get to one of the other cities--which you'll obviously want to do.') :-)
Hampton is an absolutely lovely little city in the Tidewater area and I wouldn't mind at all living there. Sure it's not perfect but it is a great place with a charming feel and great history, parks, and neighborhoods with plenty of amenities available. It's actually the oldest English-settled continuously inhabited city in all of the Americas, dating back to a couple of years after Jamestown. And the fact that it is nestled in the middle of the greater metro area an extra plus. We love all your other videos though.
By the way, there IS a Harris Teeter in Hampton!

So Mang new business are popping up here. Small business actually increased after Covid and I’m seeing a lot of growth. People talk trash about Hampton but my husband and find more reason to stay on the peninsula every day. We were told not to move there because “there nothing to do” and “your too young to live there, it’s boring” but we live it. Yes Hampton has crime but it’s so does every city. Hampton does have has charm and I live the city like small town feel.

Hampton has ALOT of restaurants. I have a list of restaurants that are wonderful. All it takes is a google search and reading reviews and you’ll find it. The city engagement is wonderful and I enjoy the local festivals and farmer markets. More and more businesses are popping up and doing well.

I disagree with the "limited" restaurant options. There are plenty of decent restaurants in Hampton, particularly seafood! Hampton was (and still is to a good degree) a seafood port town, with high quality fresh seafood caught and sold daily! A really good restaurant in Hampton is the Old Hampton Seafood Kitchen in downtown. A local favorite I recommend! There's also the Deadrise on Old Point Comfort near Ft Monroe, Surfrider on Sunset Creek near the marinas and boat clubs (excellent seafood!!!), and plenty of other options of practically any type of fare throughout Hampton, as well as wholesalers L D Amory & Co and Graham & Rollins Hampton Seafood Market, the latter also having an excellent seafood restaurant attached. And the upside of Hampton is that it's not a "tourist" trap like Williamsburg or Va Beach, so there are enjoyable less crowded food options and no having to put up with rude tourists!
Now, as for the aircraft noise- Langley AFB (formerly Langley Field) has been here since 1916, starting its existence as a proving ground for air power for NASA'a predecessor the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The area was by large rural farmland surrounding the base. Over the years through mass land purchases and subdividing, neighborhoods sprouted everywhere, especially after the merging of the town of Hampton, the town of Phoebus with Elizabeth City County in 1952 to become the greater city of Hampton as it is today. The air base and NASA/Langley Research Center, both of which are the oldest continuously serving US Air Base and the oldest (and original) civilian aeronautical laboratory in our nation, were here and isolated at their inceptions. Both bring a high revenue stream to Hampton as well as a great many careers adding to the revenue for Hampton. There's nothing more that I personally hate than those who move in to land areas in close proximity to air bases and airports, then bitch about the noise! For those of you who can't figure out by looking at a map (as well as the countless signs point them out), Hampton has an Air Force Base with loud jets stationed on it! Take it from this air force veteran, this means there will be plenty of jet noise daily! If you don't like jet noise, we don't want you living among us!!!

The worse thing about Hampton is the school system.
But to get from Hampton to Newport News - Whole Foods etc is a hop skip and jump.

Hampton isn't a terrible place to live, and there are some hidden gems there (like phoebus), but the city has a distinct run down feel. I don't know if they lack maintenance funds, and are very lax on code enforcement, but they should at least do something about the kudzu. Also, Hampton would be alot nicer if there pedestrian zones were connected. Walking between downtown, Phoebus, and ptc should be way easier than is. The city does have potential though.

Like the balanced approach. There are some distinct positives to living in Hampton and I also agree that Hampton has a lot of potential, especially in areas on the east side like Buckroe, Phoebus, Wythe, etc.

OK. This is such an unfair portrayal of Hampton, a historical city. If the beach is your thing then go to East Beach or Virginia Beach however you can get a nice home near water in Grandview or the Salt Ponds. Yes you will need to purchase flood insurance in some places but you can talk to your insurance agent about that. I lived in Hampton for 18 years on Chesapeake Avenue, a beautiful street with homes on the water side and across the street. Oh and I worked in Norfolk for all of those years so I traveled back and forth thru the tunnel. Hampton has some good restaurants and fun ones downtown. Hampton is well positioned to be able to travel north on the peninsula or to get to the Southside for events. As far as grocery stores, yes there is Food Lion, Kroger, Lidl and BJs but going to Newport News is not a long drive if you want to go to Trader Joe's, Harris Teeter or Costco.

Hello Sam this is Anthony. Good morning. I have just found your website and I am glad to learn from your information. Are you able to help me with some veteran housing issues? I am seeking your assistance with adding a co-owner name on deed of trust to an existing real estate property in Hampton Virginia

Hey I’m currently in Newport News which neighborhood in Hampton is closet to Newport News and that is not flood prone

    • @samsansalone
      @samsansalone  3 ปีที่แล้ว

There are quite a few that aren't in flood zone AE, which is the primary zone that requires flood insurance. There are some areas, for example near Aberdeen, Northampton, Farmington (around Todds Lane) that are in X right now, in 2021. The farther you go towards New Market Creek, you'll have spots that are more frequently in the AE zones. But a majority of the areas in Hampton that are the closest to Newport News are in the zone X, which does not require flood insurance.

They say that Phoebus is a nice area.
Phoebus. Where the men are men but the sheep are nervous.
Where the liquor's cheap but the women are cheaper.
And all the children are below normal.

Not even understanding why this dude made this video and he’s trying to sell houses. You are the last person I would recommend to do business with. Seems like you are just veering clients to higher cost area. Why? Because your commission would be higher.
