Here we are in 2024 and this song came to me and thats what brought me here. The Tubes? Simply when you have "it" you HAVE It. One of the top 10's ion my 80' s list. In this video they sound as good as they ever did. Actually better with all those years under their belt.
@@joeelwell162 White Punks On Dope, was never a hit, but it was their signature song in the the mid 70's! They have 3 or 4 albums released before the 80's, that are underrated albums. Remote Control is an album I have enjoyed for decades now, but rarely has anyone ever heard of it!
For some, these guys dropped through the net and went off the radar in their heyday. But they wrote excellent well crafted tunes and put so much effort into every performance. Fee is an amazing front man. My first memory of them was not great, I thought the massive boots and crazy outfits Fee wore was just too over the top, but when I saw them at Knebworth (England), I was won over totally. The Completion Backward Principal if you could possibly manage the time, is well worth revisiting. And decades on, I am still loving their skills. x
When I first herd this tune back in the day I thought it was 38 special yes they were that good you have to really be good to be mistaken for 38 Special. the tubes were great band.
When I first heard it I thought it was Toto. Then many years later I heard that Steve Lukather helped write the song and I believe one of the other keyboardists from Toto (Steve Pocaro?) did the actual studio keyboard parts on this song. Lukather plays the insane lead solo.
As a vocalist. I think she did a really good job vocally considering his age and how much time has passed. The backup vocalists are the ones that are off
You’re smokin’ crack. The backup vocals were spot on. One very small part in the first chorus that may or may not have been a bit squirrelly but man, that’s really picking nits. I love how people have to bash an artist for the .01% imperfection in their live performance while forgetting about the .99% that they played flawlessly. You’re not a Repub by any chance, are you?!?
One of the best band ever(!) I rediscovered after 30 years - wow how good The Tubes were! Simply got sidetracked stopping listening to this mob - dont ask me why - but wow, what a great band!
Met Fee several times, greatvguy. A bit introverted... but what a voice. My gorgeous wife RIP was a huge fan.l took her backstage several times and l think she was literally in awe, even tho my sons father b plays in Foghat, and lve sang with some legends...
This was one of my first favorite songs. Just recently, I discovered their older records. I have so much respect for them. How cool it would be to see them live! It seems to be where they thrive. Anyway…I’m STILL hooked! So good- so good!
The Tubes put out a Great Live Album in the late 70's. It's what got me into Them.Great Theatrical Band, and Fee Waybill was a one of a kind front Man. Glad They made some Money during the MTV Years with this song. Still loved their early 70's stuff.Peace to All.
WOW I was living in Europe when this was playing on 'the waves'... To think I missed seeing them in my hometown, I could cry 😭 I didn't even know they were popular back here. And this wasn't too long after The WIldhorse opened. I worked on the graphics for that place too. I'm not sure what that says about fate and irony... God those were the days!
Great Job Tubes! These guys were first seen in the movie, "XANADU" c1980. They performed "Dancin" during the dream scene when Gene Kelly & Sonny were discussing ideas for the night club. Gene wanted 1940's style entertainment, while Sonny liked the 1980 electronic movement (hence The Tubes playing). The scene formulated a very seamless mashup between the two eras!
Fee and the boys are just the balls. 20 years on with this song and it's like the 80's (the greatest decade, if may) all over again. Rock on my friends!
Saw them about 10 years ago due to the edging of a friend. They were playing on a Sunday at a city event. Went to the early show because hey, we had to work the next day. They were so good we stayed for the second show! The showed was played off a downtown city square and it was hot that day. We were imibing at a local establishment that was behind the stage. When we walked out for the second show they were behind the stage and we ended up talking to Fee. Had no idea he is so freaking tall! Don't think he thought a lot about us though as we were in a really good mood!
It's crazy how good he sings this live 20 years after it's release. And by no means is it an easy song to sing.
40 years not 20
@@AlreadyShort No buddy, it’s 20, the song came out in the 80’s not the 60’s.

No Auto Tune, just straight talent.
Even better since he lip-synched Bobby Kimball in the chorus, for the original song and video. Waybill did a great job here.
Fee was 51 here, sounding 31. Amazing.
Even back in '83 he was 33 when this song went big. He looked 10 years younger!
He’s 74 now, still doing it. Playing near me soon.

Lots of cowbell !!! 😮😂
This song is just like a fine wine, it gets better with age.
One of the greatest "80's" songs of all time!
One of the best 80’s songs. Period.
amen...one of the best.
Loved the guitar riffs in it. I watch the original video many times and never get tired of it.
actually even better looking and sounding 20+ years later.. Go boy.
Man, Fee is so completely spot-on here.
Heard in every topless bar across the nation!!! LOL! Love The TUBES!
I miss the 80s
3:14,. Fee nails the phrase and you can just see the real joy he has at doing what he does. He just kills this tune.
What an underrated voice, this guy could sing , well done Fee
40 years ago still a classic 1 hit wonder
2 hits. "I'll Talk to ya Later" was huge too.

More vibrant.
Worked with them on the beauty tour in 83 ? Nicest cats in the biz...legends all !

Crushing guitar tone, bass tone, great players, vocals spot on, doesn't get too much better than this...

What an amazing performance. I watched another performance from 86 and this sounds exactly the same.

REAL music and REAL singing. No autotune.
Their lead singer has got a great voice, that is a hard song.
Gary Cambra playing guitar, keyboards and singing the ultimate ringer.

Exactly what I said they sound wonderful!
And look at John "Fee O." Waybill; he was outfitted as a carnival barker in that concert, straw hat and all!!!
