What? I don't think it would make it to the top 10 of most hype Bleach moments even. And when talking about the whole genre of fiction, this scene would drown in an ocean of scenes objectively more hype in every conceivable way. Bleach is a rather average anime to begin with. And this? This is just a secondary character with discount Gandalf look getting his usual powerup, that isn't even very original - a fire power? Try every villain in fiction ever. A sword so hot it cuts anything? George Lucas called, and he wants his money for the copyright on that. Neither this scene, nor Bleach in general, have anything to really put on a plane of "whole genre history". It's okay. It's average television. Totally watchable in-between snacks. This whole sequence was just FIRE (yes pun intended, but also really really cool) but my favorite bit of animation had to be when Yamato just yelled and ignited those tiles. That fight cliche will always be cool to me. Also that epic slash that destroyed all that it touched
The moment all of the flames disappeared is perplexing. There is no Zanpakuto whose Shikai and Bankai abilities are unrelated. Then Yamamoto reveals where the flames went: they were concentrated into Zanka no Tachi, making everything that comes in contact with that blade simply cease to be. The Head-Captain no longer wielded a fire, he wielded a blade that wiped his targets from the face of existence.
For me, the interesting part of it is that, for most zanpakuto, the shikai is a partial release of a specific power and the bankai is a full release, and Ichigo's false bankai was unique in that it concentrated and compressed his power instead of releasing it. So to see Yamamoto's bankai work surprisingly similar to Ichigo's by concentrating the fire back into the blade is actually really neat.
@@matthewmuir8884 I never noticed! I guess Yamamoto is the exception to the rule of Bankai's getting bigger and less concentrated in power because of how massive his Reiatsu. Everyone can feel his Bankai in the Soul Society.

It's not that the quincies are stronger; it's that they're more pragmatic and have learned how to exploit the soul reapers' main weaknesses. They know the main strength of the soul reapers is the captains, and the requirement for becoming a captain is bankai, so they created the means to steal bankai. It's the same story with beating Yamamoto: Yhwach wins by having Yamamoto waste his time on an imposter, then steals his bankai and finishes him off.
I think that purely from an animation standpoint, this might be up there as one of the best fight sequences in anime. Hardly anything comes close to this in terms of fluidity.

Him using an imposter to lure out and stall Yamamoto was not a cheat; they already set up from Zaraki's fights that a quincy had the power to mimic the appearance and abilities of others, so it stood to reason that there was the possibility for one that could mimic the appearance and memories of others. As for the ability to steal bankai, it was established at the very beginning of the arc, and it is a natural extension of the already-established abilities of the quincies, which revolve around manipulating and siphoning external spiritual energy rather than using one's own spiritual energy. It makes sense that, eventually, quincies would develop a way to siphon the spiritual energy of a bankai.
