@BoxTruckTravel, The carbon monoxide detector needs to be at floor level. CO is heavier than air and flows along the floor before rising. With that detector at ceiling level (above your heads,) you will succumb before the CO hits the detector. I spent a decade as a Firefighter and did a lot of Smoke Detector and CO Detector inspections. I know they sell combo SD/CO units, but they are completely useless as smoke rises (is lighter than air,) and CO is just the opposite.. Please relocate it for your safety. NICE build! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Very well designed to maximize the space.
@@bourbonbrigade, no, that is incorrect. I was a Level III Firefighter w/Hazmat Cert. We tested gasses with dyes to see their path of travel, one of which was CO from a faulty gas water heater, and the CO traveled along the floor before rising into the gas chamber. It is also the reason why RVs have CO Detectors installed at floor level, as the gas from propane leaks signal quickly in RVs when a leak is detected.
@ I beg to differ. I am also a firefighter currently with 23 years on the job. I am a hazmat specialist and hold 2 other hazmat technician certifications and about 6-7 other hazmat certifications. All that aside a quick Google search will tell you that it’s lighter than air. This is from NGA first responder… CO is lighter than air. Its specific gravity is .967. If you are using a Combustible Gas Indicator (CGI) to detect CO, be sure to move the probe up and down to various levels. Some CO may rise to the top of a room. As I’m sure you know anything with a specific gravity of less than 1 will rise. The specific gravity of carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air meaning it will rise. Since it’s so close to the specific gravity of air, any disturbance in the airflow will mix it from the upper layer in the space. Please feel free to look this up seriously
In our ExpeditionVehicle, we have: * two smoke-detectors from different manufacturers * two CO detectors from different manufacturers * two propane detectors from different manufacturers. What else can we do?
Very nice build. I like your ideas, thanks for the tour. I have an E350 Box/Utility Van that I'm in the process building out for Overland... 4x4 conversion someday soon, I hope!!!
Stoked to find your channel with only 23 viewers. I look forward to seeing you grow. I just bought a Transit and look forward to building it out. I see you got litime batteries, I am considering those. Will Prowess has reviewed a lot of inexpensive batteries and has said litime batteries are pretty good. Safe travels!
Awesome thank you! Yea we’ve used those batteries in both of our campers and have been really happy with them! They should be having a good deal for Black Friday too so may be worth checking out!
Very well done with the rig and video. I look forward to seeing your travels. It looks like you have already found some sweet spots. I have been thinking of a box truck conversion, but am concerned how it will hold up on dirt roads with all the shaking and flexing between the cab and box. I look forward to seeing how it works out for you. Thanks for the video.
no problem with the box so far! maybe a larger one would have issues but I think the small size of ours helps minimize overall flex. still something we check for, especially after intense off road!
first of all, really liked how you managed to do this overland, but at 14:00 how can you open the microwave? it seems that the projector screen is blocking the door of it.
Thanks! And yes when we’re using the projector screen you can’t open the microwave but we have another mounting spot right above the seats that the screen is usually attached to. You can see the plastic nubs at 18:45

Very nice job on the build! To take your videos to the next level, invest in a lav mic. It will make a world of difference. I subscribed, can't wait to see more of your adventures!
That’s a great adventure set up! What’s the longest number of days where you two didn’t have to go back to the grid for Fuel, Food, Water or any other support…and what did you need?
just under two weeks when the sun was high in the sky! eventually had to go find a water fill-up. currently working on a solution to pump and filter out of rivers and lakes.
@ Thanks for the prompt response! Under 2 weeks makes sense and is actually surprising considering you only each had 11 gallons of water/week for Cooking/Cleaning/Hygiene & the Dog. Somewhere out there someone has figured out how to generate water by modifying their dehumidifier. Are you looking for ways to collect water during rainy days?
What do you use for a heater since you don't use propane? We have a 2021 box truck, but we haven't built it out as fancy as yours. Your Vitron system is massive, we loved that! Our power supply is just a bluetti 200 max. Noticed you mentioning things you wanted. We opted for a Trelino diverter toilet, we really like it. Enjoy your ride!
Very nice build, many not usual seen ideas! I really wish that in europe we have so any oportunities to overlanding🥴.and also i wish we can buy some e series in europe but eu green policy had efectively killed big combustion engines in our cars😭,i mean u can buy some v6,or even v8 but taxes will eat u alive😅. Again very nice build ,best vishes to the future adventures
Thank you! Great idea. Might take us a little time to calculate everything but that would be a cool video. If we had to guess, 70k would be a generous estimate with the purchase of the truck and 4WD conversion.
@mrjonk, 2003, we built our ExpeditionVehicle on a 1996 Ford CF8000 commercial truck. Cummins 8.3 mechanical. Allison 6-speed automatic. Two-wheel drive, with air-locker in the drive axle. . We rarely get better than 14mpg. We rarely travel more than a hundred miles a month. Fuel is a very minor part of the budget.
I'm glad you and your spouse are enjoying the outdoor lifestyle. Your pick of an Econoline 350 Box van was a solid choice. I own a 2001 E-150 Conversion Van with 198,709 miles on the original powertrain. I swear the powertrain (5.4L/Auto) was built on a Wednesday because, to date, there haven't been any leaks on my driveway. Question where did you source the digital rearview mirror? I need something to cover my blind spots while driving. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Semper Fidelis

The combo detectors work because the specific gravity of Carbon Monoxide is .967 so it is slightly less dense that air allowing it to float.
