  • For nearly 160 years, Geelong trains running through Werribee has been a common everyday occurrence. From Sunday 21st June 2015, this will be no more as Geelong trains will now proceed to Melbourne through Sunshine, connecting to the existing Ballarat line on a new alignment via Wyndham Vale and Tarneit stations. On the 19th of June 2015 I headed out to Werribee for the afternoon peak period where we see V/Line's last peak hour through here. We see V/Locities and N Class loco-hauled trains. We also see at least one diesel passenger train that will continue to run pass here.

The recently announced Geelong Fast Rail Project should begin construction in 2023 (This year) hopefully. Soon, we will have VLines running through werribee from time to time (I mainly think during peak hrs but not sure). Thr project will see a new express TRACK (Not Tracks) implying uni-directional service at certain times between Werribee and Laverton stations. These stations should also be upgraded as per the project meaning we can finally see Vline in Werribee..
But If im being honest, Idek how theyre gonna address the congestion after newport junction as the vlines and metro trains will have to share the same duplicated tracks the rest of the way to atleast footscray interchange before having a chance to move over into RRL tracks....

Interestingly other diesel movements, including freight, have occured on RRL since. I thought that wouldn't be allowed. I have also seen the odd V/Line through Werribee. But great video, fascinating to look back on this now because it's hard to believe that I'd once be sitting on the Metro platform at Footscray or Laverton or Hoppers Crossing/Werribee and have a V/Locity pull up, think I'm just so used to going to Wyndham Vale or Tarneit. Hard to believe it's 5 years ago.

The idea with running regional trains seperate is to alleviate the pressure on the current werribee line and allow regional trains to also expand their timetable. You would also think that in the next 10 to 15 yrs the regional line will also be electrified for Metro trains.... meaning that regional trains may need another dedicated line again. If you look at the construction vids for the rail link you'll notice that overhead gantrys stretch over 4 to 6 tracks. For further electrification or just an issue with space at certain sections of the sunshine corridor?

as the RRL corridor isn't a built up area beyond around sunshine meaning there is room to I believe the best solution would be to construct another 2 tracks next to the Ballarat Geelong lines to melton and Wyndham vale then have these tracks connect to the existing Sunbury line when high capacity singling is implemented, the lines can connect to the Melbourne metro tunnel when constructed and link to the Dandenong corridor to Cranbourne and packenham giving more frequent metro services to sunshine and dandenong but not putting less trains to packenham Cranbourne watergardens and Sunbury

Will the line that continues be removed or mostly removed or will it be made into something else or is it used for something else, I'm confused XD

Public Transport Of Victoria The current line between Werribee & the new RRL junction will be retained. Some broad gauge freight trains may continue to use it. V/Line could also send some trains through Werribee if there's a disruption on the new line.

leo marino Technically The Overland train (to/from Adelaide) runs through Werribee Station, but it doesn't stop.
It can't use the broad gauge Regional Rail Link because it is standard gauge.

Because the Regional Rail Link was due to open that following Sunday. Geelong line services were rerouted to use the new line instead of going through Werribee.
