    Best quick lessons ever. Chris Ryan’s chipping lessons have been immediately tremendously impactful in saving strokes for me. Can’t wait to try these sand lessons. Very easy to follow the visual instruction.

    I have been playing bad golf for a couple of months - so I took two weeks off playing to study what I was doing wrong - I landed on your series "back to basics" and I cant explain enough how amazing you break down the key elements - I have summarized your points and the plan to go through them thoroughly before I touch a club again - and when I do I will start with getting my game right in the exact same order as your series and then get back to the course to play a round of golf - kudos Chris - Hope to meet you one day

    The face to face concept is pure gold, immediately solved my issue of thins or shanks! Played around with the length of backswing for different distances and used the same feel.... bloody lovely, thanks Chris!

    Really like your thoroughness on your bunker tips. Working at improving with that open face is challenging, but I'm determined. Going to use an alignment rod as you suggest. Knowing where the club enters and exists is definitely going to help me build my consistency. Thank you Chris.

    Hi Chris, as a left handed golfer, it is very helpful when you describe your tips with "us" in mind. For example "shifting weight from the back leg to the front" verses, from your right leg to your left etc... Thanks, your tips are very helpful!

    Thankyou Chris. Hopefully this bunker lesson will help me. I have been playing over 40 years and bunker play was and still is my worst nightmare. I have had lessons from different pros' all telling me different things, so you can imagine my brain is quite mixed up. Off to the range tomorrow to try this out.

Unfortunately I can't afford for lessons, I can see he don't mind help out golfers by sharing his techni. So why do people subscribe to another channel been signed with Titleist. Another good vlog, I like the level of detail you go into. However, sadly our club for around 9-10 months of the year entering the sand so far behind the ball won't work as the sand isn't soft and fluffy like yours. Frequently our sand feels more like hitting from a path as it is so solid re quality of sand used and wetness.

    • @BrandonGoose
      @BrandonGoose 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jack Tate its pritty much same technique, just different lofted club,hard bunkers you need a lob wedge with a lower bounce,sand wedge with higher bounce for the soft bunkers

    • @mctayto1
      @mctayto1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't suggest for a second that the technique was different simply the point of entry into the sand changes with the quality/firmness of sand. Greenside bunkers are strength of mine simply because I have spent so much time in them :( needless to say I am trying to change that.

    My pro teaches a neutral (ie chipping) club position but three lessons later I''m still no nearer to getting the ball out that way so I guess I'll try this method, I may as well as nothing else works for me. Currently losing loads of shots through having to lay up short of greens all the time.

Could you do a series of videos where you hit shots that end up not as expected and an analysis of why. It would help me to understand and correct poor shots.

    Hi Chris. I hope this is not a dumb question, but I noticed that the sand you are in is pretty nice and light. Where I play, they use heavier and more course-type sand, especially when it is wet. Would this change the technique of the swing or mean more acceleration?

    At 6:37 in this video , you shuffled your feet into sand before taking the swing. I’m always unsure how much to dig down. Any suggestions? Can you do too much or not enough. Because we can’t settle the club in the bunker there is no easy way to gauge... goes back to my earlier question about sand type(sandy/soft/wet) ... perhaps a future video about digging feet in sand based on lie and sand type

    • @jacobmccain8082
      @jacobmccain8082 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I generally dig in a little more on fluffy sand as it accentuates hitting behind the ball. In harder packed sand I don't dig in as much because I generally hit closer to the ball. I still dig my feet in a little though to keep my lower body quiet.

    I need a new sand wedge. Problem is I don't have access to a rack full of different clubs and a retailer with a practice sand trap on the premises so I have no idea what manufacturer, loft, shaft, face, or bounce is really best for me. Without being able to test a lot of different clubs in the sand how does an amateur golfer determine the most basic characteristics like loft and bounce that would be best for them? I currently have a 56 degree SW with 12 degrees of bounce and a steel shaft but I have no idea whether 55 degrees or 58 degrees of loft and 8 degrees or 10 degrees of bounce and a steel or graphite shaft would be better. And where do you go to swing 5 or 6 different clubs 40-50 times in a real bunker?
    Or is there a general guideline for loft and bounce that will answer the question since most retailers don't want you defacing their inventory before you buy it?

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this is a real issue and can be almost impossible to try them out in sand against one another. As a general rule I would look at 56* of loft, bounce above 9* and steel shaft. This would be a pretty good option for 90% of the bunker shots that you would face on the course 👍

    • @grigsbypoland3203
      @grigsbypoland3203 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisRyanGolf Thanks for the reply. What determines whether 10*, 12*, or 14* of bounce is better? Is it the quality/type of sand you are most likely to encounter wherever you play? And given the club probably does double duty with flop shots and the occasional full fairway shots how do you choose? Seems a little like buying a pig-in-a-poke as we say in America.

  • @tomjoyce6464

    • @ChrisRyanGolf

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    First i just want to say your teaching methods and in debt details has help me so much, especially with iron play. However i am using Phil Mickelson’s method of hinge and hold keeping the club face upwards and body turn from sand. i have tried your method but lose so much control and feel. Any thoughts on these two different approaches ?

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Henning, I would personally use this method as I feel it’s easier to master and requires a lower skill level. Mickelsons method requires much more skill, has a smaller margin for error in my view 👍

    In the first set of bunker shots you are hitting the sand a lot nearer to the ball than you described at the beginning. Personally I feel that hitting the sand 3-4 inches before the ball with the club face that far open means the ball would not reach that flag
