Watched your video and followed your technique last week after ending up in a green-side trap! Had been struggling with bunkers taking too much sand in my weekly League. Made sure face open ~ 45 deg. prior to entering the trap, aligning myself to the flag and it came out easily within 10 feet of the flag!
Had been using a more open stance with club sliding across the sand with mixed results.
Focused on the visual of throwing a club face of sand onto the green, which helped greatly! Thanks Chris!!!

Thank you for addressing so much of what can go wrong with bunker play. I would add one more thing to work on, which is practice making sand swings without the ball, with the goal being to consistently move the sand to the green. That will teach you the length of swing and speed you need to be successful, without worrying about skulling the ball or burying the club.

i was absolutely terrible out of the sand before practicing the tips in this video. after a couple of practice sessions i was not having any problems getting out of the bunker. i had to keep the club face square because i was making poor contact and it worked the best for me. even hit a great soft shot off the flag once. thank you for this video!

Very useful and I loved the intro. Another thing that would be useful to hear, is how to deal with different types of sand. The bunker you were in looked like nice dry fluffy sand, but many courses where I play the sand is more packed and almost a bit damp. How should we manage different types of sand? Thanks Chris!

These videos are of the very highest quality Chris. We'll done.
I think the humour is great and the use of "that wasn't me Chris" is fantastic as a visual aid.
I find many pros explain what golfers do wrong and then provide solutions to correct this however your videos are showing us in advance the shots we often play and then showing us the solutions.
Visual this will help alot of golfers massively.
We need to see more of the average golfer Chris in future videos before Chris the pro steps in to provide solutions for golfers faults.
Great video, educational, to the point and great humour between Chris and his golfing alter ego.

Thanks for the excellent video! Would you consider making a video on how to get out of bunkers with no loose sand in? The bunkers at my local club are virtually hard pan, so usual bunker technique is of limited use if one doesn't want fractured wrists. I'm talking particularly about green-side bunkers, so because of the lip there's no chance to pick it off and a proper bunker shot is essential.

    Hi Chris
Great video but I have a "bone" to pick with you as my mother would say to me on common mistake number one. I completely agree that one must open the club face to strike the ball with the sole of the club or the bounce. That is a key point to glide the club face through the sand and not dig in with the leading edge that your look alike was so adept at doing. BUT you do not lower the leading edge- not possible. What you do do is open the club face that raises the leading edge. The trailing edge remains where it was so the effect is that the trailing edge is lower than the leading edge. A key insight for the conceptualization of the bunker shot that has eluded (or deluded me) for many years. You raise the leading edge by opening the club face. The trailing edge remains where it was as you open the club face and raise the leading edge.

Per usual, your explanations are insightful and spot on. 👏🏾👍🏾.
Could you also address one threshold conceptual error I have had, which is about the bounce of the sand wedge. I worried that the bounce would prevent the club face from entering the sand at all, and would cause the club to slide along the top of the sand and blade the ball. And thoughts on how to dispel that erroneous fear of the bounce?
