1 of the greatest live albums ever U.F.O. Strangers in the Night Michael was truly flawless, glad I got to see U.F.O twice with Michael, once opening for Rush who they totally blew off the stage in Baltimore !! Have always been a fan of his since that show !!
I knew Michael was with UFO but I didn't know where to start. Thank you! I'd 1st heard of him when my friend's big brother came home from Germany while in The Army. He had every Scorpions album with Lovedrive [original umm... bubble gum album cover] as the latest release. We were the 1st people in our town to be listening to them before they broke big in the states. Loved his work with MSG!
Thanks for uploading this video i remember when i knew ufo and schenker for the first time thanks to doctor doctor cover maiden did schenker was too underated today i see finally he get more and more popularity happy to see that hoping one day he will be known same as sabbath zeppelin and purple
Great. I can tell that you are really a fan. The only omission that I would add is Wayne Findlay. Wayne was his keyboard and rhythm guitarist for several years despite Michael's ups and downs. He also played lead on Rock and Roll Believer as one can witness on Michael's live DVD in Poland. So many came and went but Wayne was a rock for Michael thru those many years. And I think you should've mentioned the singer on the last 2? albums. With him they rocked at the HSRD + Heavy or something concert in Europe which one can see here on the Tube. A young guy...sheez! Romero? can't remember his name. But then Michael has had many, many join his band but this guy played with Blackmore first....another of Michael's ways...Ha-ha- 5 steps from Michael Schenker. Thanks for the post. Really good. Frank Marino? Check him out dude.
Yeah, I believe Wayne was with him, the last two times I saw him. Last time I saw Schenker he had the rhythm section from the Scorpions playing with him Herman and Francis. I have a video on Frank.
I’ve always been a huge EVH fan but the longer I play guitar and reflect, I might have to agree. I think they are both technically excellent and EVH is probably better than Schenker here. More and more I think of EVH as stunning but a lot of that is tone/effects. Schenker’s playing seem more musical and integrated with the songs overall. At any rate, Schenker is probably my favorite living rock guitarist.
I think Schenker and EVH are both from the school of what I’d call great players and that list is not that big. A great guitar player not only has great technical skill but also great creative skill and originality, they have a kind of genius level of creativity and style that separates them from all the rest. Schenker’s best output would be up to the end of UFO and the beginning of MSG, EVH obviously up to 1984. After that I think the genius streak ended.
and using Gibsons again!.. one black and one white..lets see how long before he cuts them in half and glues them back together to get that black and white sound! Merry Christmas from CANADA!
Michael was also offered the gig or to try out at least with the Rolling Stones after Mick Taylor left but he was like, 18 and he talked to his brother Rudolph who is several years older and he . told him, "It would kill you." Great advice. And great for us as he stayed with UFO and I saw them for the 1st time in 1975l The last time in 95. I saw Michael after Uli Jon Roth at my last show in 2004. He still has the magic nearing 70. Michael is the most prolific true to the melody guitarist ever. Built to destroy was mixed poorly but the live Hammersmith video shows you just how great he was even though he had a coke problem at the time.
Lovedrive info is false as credits are BS. Schenker played on more tracks than the three stated. It’s obvious he plays solos on ‘loving you Sunday morning as well as holiday intro, which he WROTE! He is likely on every song in some way as he was repeatedly asked by Deiter Deirks to embellish or add something to every song. Blatant lack of full credit by the scorpions is disturbing. They left him off completely in the lovedrive rebox set.
Michael has created more melodies than anyone times 30. Maybe more. Frank Marino, Uli Jon Roth and Michael Schenker were born 6 weeks apart. Uli and Michael were born 30 miles apart, I used to joke that there must've been something radioactive in the water as those 2 are unique. And Frank? He did a hell of a lot of acid before he was 14. True dat. Love them all. 3 of my top 10.
Obsession was recorded in early 1978 I think ?...Not 1977. .....& it was released in the UK in 1978 too....Not 1979........Strangers in the Night was released in 1979 (though recorded months earlier in Oct 1978)

his work with ufo matches the greatness of EVH
He is one of the greats and hugely influential to so many players. Thanks for watching and commenting.

My favorite guitarist. You left out his instrumental albums "Adventures of the Imagination", "The Odd Trio", and one more i think.

Yes he has said that he played on most of the tracks.
Dude is one of the best to ever do it. I would make the argument that the playing on Strangers in the Night is just as good if not better than VH1.
