    My opinion(doesn't count really😂) is I think UFO and even the scorpions are more towards the hard rock genre while Judas Priest is more heavy metal. I love both but there are differences so if I had to guess then I think that's what KK was talking about. Who knows.

It’s all about what’s been done to him and he was a first at this or he was a easy target to be token advantage of ! He’s a great guitarist! All these riffs between musicians who should be close is, literally, nauseating at this point in time. Instead of lost time, Michael should be close to his brother. You cannot get it back. Love drive was my 1st scorps album. Loved it ! Fame vs credit vs blood is a double-edged sword. Ask the Lord to heal the dissent and move on. Hate just hurts the hater, after all. More love. Michael Schenker is a major influence on the
    Scorpions signature sound which began with the Lovedrive album which helped pave the way for the Scorpions formula sound. For example if you listen to Coast To Coast, this was later used to formulate No One Like You. Also lyrically Scorpions copied Michael Schenker’s band from their UFO days. Take “Only You Can Rock Me” kickin’ out just like a Hurricane, Scorpions later made Rock You Like A Hurricane. Although I love the Scorpions, I hate how they do not like to give credit where credit is due. If you listen to Lovedrive that is where the Scorpions produced their signature sound due to the help of Michael Schenker who did not want to deal with the pressures of being a top guitarist living life in the fast lane. Scorpions have the fame but Michael Schenker in the 70’s was highly influential to a long list of groups and out of all of them, the Scorpions copied his style the most. I have all the UFO albums and Scorpions albums. The influence is unmistakable.

    KK had said that he was inspired by Hendrix, who played a V. Downing was a big promoter of the flying V in metal circles. It's not that he was the first, it's the impact that matters in regards to that. Just like Van Halen saying he was the first to finger tap when millions of people figure it out on thier own. Michael quit the band that was putting out hits such as Doctor Doctor , and Lights Out . Then turned down the lead guitar gig playing lead guitar for the Scorpions , in the late 70's leaving it for Matthias Jabs . He also turned down an offer to play for Ozzy . Let's see what's true... JP never played a club called "Whisky A Gogo" in either 1974 or 1975, although they did play 2 or 3 shows in Germany in 1974. All this according to SetlistdotFM. Schenker also claims during the late 70s and early 80s he was invited to join Aerosmith, Ozzy (to replace Randy), Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Ian Hunter and Motörhead (all from wikipedia). He also quit UFO at, arguably, their creative height to make his own band. MSG has changed members on a regular basis. Not only that he titled one of his solo albums "Be Aware Of Scorpions" which seems to me disrespectful. Then he disses the swag he got at KK's Steel Mill as well as as personal note from KK? And then he goes on to disrespect his brother Rudolph and says he hasn't talked to him in years. Next he says he "opened the doors to the USA" for the Scorpions with his contributions on the Lovedrive album and that he (Micheal) made much more contributions to that album than he was credited for. And then he's a "silent" and "extremely important person to the whole scene of rock and roll". Sheesh. Micheal also says: "Rudolph wishes he could own my spirit". What??? and then "Rudolph is so jealous" and "he (Rudolph) is not a musician and has no feeling from drumming." Drumming? Rudolph Schenker is a drummer?!?!?! Holy crap Michael, jealous much? Get a new hat dude and chill tfo.

    Michael contradicted himself in the audio clip in this video. He has stated many times over the past seven years that he was a full member of Scorpions when they recorded Lovedrive and as such, he should have been pictured on the album cover. In this clip, he says he didn’t want to join Scorpions because he had just left UFO. As great of a guitar player and songwriter as Michael is, he comes off as a bitter crybaby. He always says he was never concerned about the business side of the music business and that he was happy “just creating and discovering” and practicing “the art of pure self-expression” on guitar. If that’s true, why is he so pissed off now about money? He was off his tits for years and years on drugs and alcohol. Maybe he should’ve sobered up a lot sooner and had a firmer grip on his business dealings. As someone who has been around Scorpions and Michael as a member of the music press, I have it on credible authority that Rudolf helped Michael financially for years, including supporting Michael’s children when Michael had to leave the U.S. to avoid arrest for back child support delinquency. So much for gratitude, eh, Michael. Do us all a favor and just zip your lip and practice the art of pure self-expression with your guitar. You know - the V-shaped one you got from Rudolf. And for F’s sake, make a whole album with Robin McAuley. The dude is the best singer you’ve worked with post UFO and Lovedrive and sounds phenomenal on stage at nearly 70.

      Rudolf has taken the high road on this, he said in an interview before that he doesn't want to get into a row with his brother in the press and still loves him. From what I've heard Rudolf is a nice guy and has supported Michael greatly over the years, even Uli Roth came to his defense and said the same. I love Michaels playing and of course Michael is a far better lead player than Rudolf, but there's no denying Rudolf is a great rhythm player and is responsible for writing some all time classic riffs. It just comes off as childish and bitter when Michael bashes Rudolfs playing. If Michael "opened the door to America" for the Scorps how come he didn't make it big there himself? Michaels a very strange dude, he can't seem to keep one band together for more than 5 minutes. All he's done for the past few decades is random, mostly unmemorable sporadic projects with hundreds of different people. Any time he comes close to having a great solid band he jumps ship (or the people around him jump ship from him). Being a great lead player is good and all, but your music is only as good as the band you have around you.

    • @crusheverything4449
      @crusheverything4449 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Mattythebassman - I appreciate your very rational comment! I’ve been saying much the same for years now. Michael Schenker is a rare talent and has been one of my two favorite guitarists, along with Uli Jon Roth, for 45 years, but his incessant whining and bitching about how Rudolf ripped him off was already old six years ago. There’s a lot of common sense present when you ask why, if Michael opened the door to America for Scorpions, he never made it big here himself. Along that same train of thought, Michael has accused Rudolf of dying his hair blonde and “stealing” his look and even his brand and color of guitar. That’s utter nonsense! Michael was only known by hardcore rock fans and basically a complete unknown in the mainstream with no name recognition. Therefore, the hardcores knew the difference between Michael and Rudolf and mainstream rock fans didn’t know who either was, so what did Rudolf have to gain by impersonating Michael? Further, Rudolf was the first of the brothers to own a Gibson Flying V. Long before any fame came calling, Michael broke a string on his Les Paul during a song and quickly traded guitars with Rudolf, so Michael could play the guitar solo. Michael fell in love with the guitar and refused to give it back. Rudolf has stated that Michael paid him for the guitar and Rudolf bought another. Michael can’t rightfully claim that Rudolf “stole his guitar” or copied the type of guitar Michael had used because Rudolf used it first! This is only the tip of the iceberg. As someone who has spent time with many members of UFO, Scorpions, MSG and their organizations, I can safely say that Michael’s bitterness is misguided at best. Rudolf has done a lot to help Michael over the years, as Michael crashed and burned in a pattern of addictive behavior and sabotaged his own career and success time and again. Sure, Michael played on Lovedrive, but two weeks into the tour for the album, he quit the band because he didn’t want to play other people’s songs and other guitarists’ solos. The tour hadn’t even made it to the U.S. at that point, further weakening Michael’s claim that Scorpions owe their success in America to him. He could’ve stayed in Scorpions and he’d have had all the money and fame he could’ve dreamed. It was his choice to walk away from all the forthcoming success for which he wants sole credit. Michael had stage fright for many years and that was at the core of his addiction(s) and subsequent behavior (i.e., disappearing from tours, walking offstage in the midst of a show, never to return on the night and never to offer a make-up show or refund to fans who were left in the lurch, etc.). I can sympathize with that to a certain extent, hut Michael has never owned it and has never apologized or done anything to make it up to his many disappointed fans, who spent good money and never got what they paid for. Why hasn’t any rock journalist called him out for that? They probably don’t want to ruin their fanboy (or fangirl) moment, I suppose. Rudolf has never done such things and is the consummate professional. He also seems to be the better person and brother by my estimation. It’s not a contest, but Michael has been venomous toward the older brother he used to call his mentor and credited with saving his life more than once. When did all that fall by the wayside? So much for gratitude. It seems Michael was so messed-up on drugs and alcohol that he has classic memory gaps, probably due to alcoholic blackouts, and is filling those gaps incorrectly, based upon the fact that “everyone else ripped me off for years”. From my perspective, Rudolf has been Michael’s greatest ally and Michael has been his own worst enemy. I hope they can talk it out - in private - and put it all behind them. It’s painful to watch this perpetuated in such a one-sided way.

    I don't know the truth of the various claims made by Schenker, his brother, KK and others. I do believe -- from interviews I have heard -- that Michael was ripped off a few times (perhaps more than a few times) and didn't get the credit or money that he deserved over the years. He even admits to being naive back in the day and only wanting to play guitar, ignoring the business side of things, and I guess business-savvy people took advantage of that. So no doubt in my mind that he got ripped off (again, to what degree, I don't know). I think he doesn't want to be bitter about it and that he is trying to move on but he keeps getting sucked back into it when he does interviews and gets riled up. As far as what KK said or what Metallica said, I'd have to hear the original comments in context. Remember, Schenker is only responding to what the interviewer is telling him, which is intentionally supposed to get him riled up and excited. Mission accomplished.

    Schenker is a typical creative genius/unable to function normally type of artist. It just comes from the territory. Don't look to him for 'life lessons', look to him for inspiration as a musician. Very rare to find pure idealism like MS anymore, especially in the dead art form that is lead guitar playing and especially IMPROV. As for Rudolf, yes, the guy is more businessman than musician. Rudolf's success with MONEY and no talent as a guitarist would obviously be a sore spot for Michael. It's like being Mozart and seeing Saleri get all the gigs.
    Can you imagine being Michael's older, less talented brother in the same business, playing guitar? YOU KNOW that's going to hurt. Of course Rudolf was jealous. I'd be jealous too. It's an inarguable fact that Schenker made LOVE DRIVE as good as it was, and this was the best album from the scorpions, and it did push them to success. After LOVE DRiVE it was all downhill musically for the Scorpions, (Magnetism and love at first sting are pure garbage) but ironically they became more popular as each album got worse. Rarebell's writing was absolute embarrassing LCD shite.

Whatever the truth is Michael Schenker is due respect for being an original. I don't think KK was trying to take credit for bringing the flying v into metal. I think he was recounting how he ended up using the guitar as his standard. The influence of Hendrix and all of that.

    If you listen to the solo on Judas Priests "Before the Dawn" (which is a great song) It sounds EXACTLY like Michael Schenker In fact when I first heard it I thought maybe Michael played that solo as a guest..but I guess it was just KK "borrowing" from MS

    Michael didn't even realize how his brother was ripping off his image until their sister told him about it in 2015 via e-mail. He had already been a hit in America and help the Scorpions become big in America also. Also, If KK Downing actually made that statement ; he probably thought it wouldn't get all the way back to Germany LOL!! It's a documented fact that a lot of guitarists, older and younger than Schenker, tried to copy Schenker's image and sound.

      Rudolf played the V before Michael. Michael's first V used to belong to Rudolf. It's funny how Michael no longer mentions it. He used to before he realized how much more successful the Scorpions are than he is. Now Michael is jealous of Rudolf. Scorpions credited Michael for playing on lovedrive and his writing of 3 of the songs on it. Michael is delusional. He couldve shared in their success had he stuck with them. Michael quit. Scorpions didnt want him to leave. A matter of fact, they kicked Jabs out the first time he was in the band just so Michael could be in the band. They rehired Jabs when Michael quit.

      I read KK Downing's book. The look he was talking about wasn't the one Michael Schenker has. KK was talking about the leather and studs look. He was the 1st one to use that look in Heavy Metal as far as I know.
