    $400? No lifetime warranty? Absolute waste of money. Great review as always.

    Remember that titanium is brittle by nature and is usually mixed with another metal....knowing the alloy is very important. I can see clamping down and having them fracture

    Gerber is coming out with some nice looking saltwater pliers for under $100. From my past experience with Gerber products, I expect them to be great.

      Gerber does have some fine products.

    I have had them for 15 years and i fish waist deep in salt water for at 100 days a year. Still have not replaced the cutters and they work fine. If you submerge the pliers they are worth it.

    Good call. I've wanted them but I agree with you especially on the warranty. We passed on some "high end" custom boats because they only wanted to offer a 5 year hull warranty. When you spend big money I want a company that will stand behind their product.

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard for me to accept that they are "high end" if they don't stand behind their product. Thanks for the comment.

    happy late birthday! and Thanks for the videos you were one of the main guys to help me get started in bass fishing. man, I thought some these rods and reels were too much as a new bass fisherman but pliers at that cost? im happy with my Walmart pliers :)

SHE LOVES You Dude!! For That amount of money they better be Solid Gold with Platinum cutters and in a Leather (Cashmere wool) lined sheath!!! BTW, the thing that was wrong with this video was the Price!!! lol Take Care and Be Well. 👍👍👍🐟🐟

    Well if longevity means anything; had mine for twenty+ years so far. Holder is nice and white encrusted; D-ring is green and corroded closed but the pliers are fine! Back in the day they weren't $400 but they were cheap either.

    Happy Belated Birthday!!!! Your a Wise man. I feel the same way about YETI coolers.....Thanks for posting this, not that I could afford 400 dollar pliers, LOL....

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think Yeti is overrated, i was thinking about doing a Yeti test for the channel.

    • @eatmelily
      @eatmelily 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I obviously agree. I read lots of reviews on products, especially if I in interested in making a purchase. When I was younger, I was real Brand conscious, Now, not so much. I read most of the reviews of the Yeti Rambler, the cup, and a lot of pretty thought out cover all the bases comprising tests. I ended up buying the Ozark Trail cup from Walmart. It tied, or bettered the Yeti in every test I saw, that were scientific. I spent 14.00, not 40.00 LOL. I saved 26 bucks, but I didn't get a YETI sticker, LOL. Same way with the Coolers. Rtic, and several others do just as good as Yeti at 1/2 or more the price. The Rtic, is a pretty down and out copy, but it's 1/2 the price. I know Yeti did all the leg work, design work and all that, but when you get Greedy, someone is going to take advantage. Most people can afford a 200 camping cooler, a lot Can Not afford a 400+ dollar cooler of the same size and quality. BTW, I ended up ordering the Piscifun Pliers, after watching your reviews. On sale for 23-24 dollars, .. Split ring ends, and replaceable blades. We will see how they compare. Love my Piscifun Phantom reel. Not as Sweet as my Daiwa Tatula SV..... but for 40 against 200, a pretty darn nice reel.....Thanks again. I Learn a LOT from your Vids....

  • @kaceyle4706
    @kaceyle4706 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Let me use 1 example .
    When it’s come to flood in your area , would you rather choose between a Honda or a Hummer for your survival? I know for sure I’ll pick a Hummer !!!!!.
    Vanstaal don’t need much warrantee because it’s made like a tank and I don’t think I’ll ever need for it, except for replacing it the blade and the anvil part. I had 7 of them and I haven’t had any issue with it at all. I had 5 of the 7in ,and 2 of the 6in vanstaal and it’s feel good to have best where I’m at . To me sometimes It’s all depend on your budget and the taste of your fishing material to the next level that all. another words for it was that you buy the plier within your budget.

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing is I can afford any pair of pliers that I want. However, I know from experience those aren't worth $400, not even $100 IMO.

    Josh, I'm a cheapie brother, I'll go to Walmart or if I want something a little better, maybe Tackle unlimited. The most 30.00 brother, the rest on beer, and tackle. That's when I do go fishing brother, still trying to wet that hook. Great video ma man! Tight lines never stop brother!

    Very good review. I thk you hit some very good points on why not to buy them. One ya missed, may be that the sheath was not even made in the US. They look like the exact same form factor as any of the countless el cheapo Chinese pliers on amazon or Alibaba. Titanium is very heavy compared to aluminum or even steel. I would have liked to see how those cutters did though. Like in Tackle Advisors video where he cut big musky hooks with his.

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thought about keeping them to do such test but I couldn't put them through that kind of torture knowing I was taking them back.

      @patasaurusrex2492 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joshua Taylor I would have done the same. When I make up my mind to return something I feel it's right to return it in new condition. Most of the time I try to keep gear in pristine condition in case I decide to return it. I got a sleeping bag from REI that's over a year old the still has the tags on it just for that reason.

    You’re on spot brother. Details matter! The warranty (lack of a real one) alone gives you a clue on the real value of the product. I buy Simms waders because they have an awesome warranty and they stand behind their product and craftsmanship. Glad I found you. I appreciate the honest truth, especially when it comes to fishing gear.

    My husband owns a few staals, told me to never grab him the pliers, they now sell reels under 400$ (vm 150) and again 1 year warranty what the hell is that, makes Staals look bad as the vsx line is the best reels on the market with only stella and saltiga being any real competition at that they dont hold a candle to the vsx in the surf

    And made in China for about $22 each. For that price should be lifetime unconditional warranty. Hell a $20 craftsman pliers comes with a better warrantee. Yes the titanium weighing that much make zero sense unless there is a core of some type in it.

    Just saw this and I’m late to the game. They’re surf fishing pliers made to be submerged attached to a surf belt. They won’t rust or break under enormous abuse. On a boat, pointless. Just buy any decent set of pliers. A half season in the surf with a normal set of pliers and they will be rusted and useless.

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These pliers rust like every other plier I use.

    People pay all kinds of ridiculous prices for their hobbies. If thats what they want then great for them. I. Will just say those are about 5 times too much for them, not a good value.
