This is absolutely the best product review I've ever seen anywhere. I almost bought a pair of top end pliers after watching even though I haven't felt the need anything more than the typical tool box adjustable $10 pliers in the last 40 years.
Great review - though I admit I'm already a Manley guy. Best tool to have in a kayak offshore. I do grease the mechanism and I drilled hole for a lanyard, but otherwise I use them like you do. Thanks for the well done video.
Loved the vid. I was turned onto the Manley pliers by another friend of Flip so I bought a pair on eBay for $5 and had a guy make me a sheath with a tarpon design on it using the dimensions from the friend's sheath that had "FLIP" stamped on it. The cutters were not working so I found another one online long before I was turned onto your web site and try to support the store. I learned from the vid how to keep the pliers locked onto the tag end but will be careful not to to kerplunkit. Yeah, they're not sexy and they get rusty looking but they work great. Nice meeting you this fall at the store. Eric
For the Hatch pliers, I had same concern about not being able to pull a line. I called the manager and he got me a pair that closes fully and it does pull on a line just fine
1st video I watched of yours. Great review! I’m gonna buy Manleys for my largemouth fishing. I can clip a hook if need be! I’ll keep my lomgnose which have quit cutting braid but can reach into a deeply swallowed hook. Thx.
I just can't go fishing without a pair of pliers of some sort. I use them constantly, and why not? Ikeep a pair in every box and bag as well as my multitool on my belt. Teaching my 9 year old niece how to fish, the first thing she asked for was her own multi tool so, of course, Uncle ran right out and got her a pair!
Looks like the new style abels have grooves on both handles. My old style abels only have grooves on one side so you can tell what side the cutter is on. Great in the dark.
Why not drill a hole on the end of the handle and fit a lanyard to the Manley? I'm a trout guy, but if I had to carry pliers I'd want to make sure they're with me all the time. Nice job on the review!
Can anybody tell me whether the pliers have too rigid of edges to be used to seat loop knots? I use hemostats that have curved edges to help wrench down perfection loops. I'm wondering if these pliers may damage mono when used in this fashion. I'd like to carry one set of do-it-all pliers that don't cost a fortune.
Feel free to call the folks at the shop and they will be happy to consult. Quite a bit has changed since this video was produced. Call anytime and anyone there can help. Thanks.
@@Madriveroutfitters struggling between vanstaal 7nonch and the simms. I fish inshore salt, trout, bass, everything. Looking for all around. I hate that kydex sheath!
No self respecting charter captain in New England goes to sea without Manley pliers. Nothing on this planet cuts hooks embedded in a human faster or better. I dont go fishing without my Manley's.

Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and stay tuned.

Thanks for watching. Flip Pallot says that "Any other pliers are girly".
What can come handy with the simms is that you can use the hole to hold the hook when you tie knots, specially big hooks.
Thanks for watching!

Great video pal, really enjoy these show and tells
Junior J Thanks
I agree 100% with the tip not closing would defeat just the name pliers.
A major design flaw. That manufacturer has since corrected the issue and Brian has done an update video. It's on here somewhere.
For the Hatch pliers, I had same concern about not being able to pull a line. I called the manager and he got me a pair that closes fully and it does pull on a line just fine
They fixed that problem not long after this video was made. New version coming now for 2022.
You should also test bite wire! That is probably what damages the most plier blades!
francisco villa Extremely good point! Will have him do it as a follow-up. Thanks and stay tuned.
Looks like possible 2 sizes. Ones I recieved will work great on smaller fish..Like the slim profile on plier end.
Thanks for watching!

Glad I searched fishing pliers before buying a pair. I'm sold on the Manley pliers. Will be ordering them today!
Just ran out but should have a new batch mid week. Thanks.
Super helpful and thoughtful review.
Thanks for watching.
test the bottle openers for the final verdict 😂😂
this. lol great video
Stay tuned!
ric0h and......be careful what you ask for.
Fun video and product review! Thank YOU!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for being here.

James Cooper Good uncle! Pliers are an important tool, no matter how much they cost.

Good point. Wonder if they considered that?
Thanks for watching.

You can do that. This is Amurica....as Flip often says. Thanks for watching.
Great video!! Very informative! Like butter!! 😂😂
Jeremy Stimac Thanks
I've Benn using them for 40 years. Manley are the best.
Agreed….obviously.
where do you find that sheath for the manley pliers looks good
Glenn Friedley Flip Pallot has them made for us and we sell them on our website and his.
Is there a source for the leather sheath for my yellow Manley pliers I bought from you. Thanks!
Sorry but the ones we sold are no longer available.
Nice review! Seems the companies are enabling people who take glass on rivers though.
Milo Bookout Thanks for watching. If having a bottle opener is “enabling”.....we have a big problem. The responsibility is on the user. Period.
How do Van Staal pliers compare to above?
Sorry but never held a pair so no opinion.

Tanner Banks call the shop and talk to the guys. They can answer your question. 614-451-0363
What about a hook? Yes, we do get hooked now and again and this year. I needed to cut a hook in half. The pliers with us could not do this.

Between orvis and simms what do you recommend ?
im going to be using them for ocean kayak fishing
QWIKEN MTB Give Brian a call or an email at the shop and he’ll be happy to consult. Thanks.
I would add I appreciate you saving me $220 on my next pliers. The high end companies just thumb-downed your review. Haha.
Yep, they don’t like it when the truth is cheaper.
Is Simms the only one that is made in the usa?
Not sure on that but if you contact the folks at the shop, they can tell you. Thanks.

@@Madriveroutfitters do you know if the simms pliers are capable of cutting hooks like the van staal?
You'd have to check with the folks at the shop about that. We don't have that information here. Thanks.
$300 for pliers?! No thanks!
We don't force folks to buy things so no worries. Thanks for chiming in though.
No bottle openers not a deal killer it's a selling point. Glass and boats don't go together. Plus lately the best brews are in cans anyway.
Thanks for the input.
Can’t find the leather sheath on your or flips website. What should I type in the search bar?
MrTspeeds07 Send an email to the shop and we’ll send you back a direct link. admin@madriveroutfitters.com
Ok email sent. Thanks!
They should get back to you shortly if not already.
Did you say $300????

Bottle openers!?!? Who buys glass bottles for fishing!? Let’s be honest, PBR taste better out of the can anyway.
To each his own! 😂
Manley act just like a pair of radiator hose clamp off pliers
So truly multi use. Thanks for watching.

We agree! Thanks for backing us up here!
