as a Dutch consumer, I'm thrilled to see KLM ordering A320 aircraft. In general I find them more comfortable than the 737. With business class it doest really matter, but with economy, I tend to prefer Airbus planes, also when it comes to wide bodies.
I find the A320 more comfortable than the 737 as well, because of slightly wider seats. However, the 787 is now my favorite plane to fly. The big windows, the better atmosphere, pressure and humidity, and its ability to get past hub and spoke. I hope they replace the 777's and A330's with 787's, especially since Boeing will be creating ER versions of the -9 and -10.
KLM's A330 replacement is more 787-10's and the 777-200ER replacement is most likely going to be either the A350-900 or the 777-9, however the 777-300ER's are going to be replaced a few years after and of course those are bigger which would make it more likely that KLM is going for the A350-900 as replacement for the 777-200ER and the A350-1000 for the 777-300ER
By the looks of it they'll go all airbus. It's far more logical to replace the 330's with 330 NEO's after the 737's replacement to 320's. A 320 pilot needs minimal training for being certified for a 330 NEO, and with more than 100 320's in their (combined) future fleet, it makes a lot more sense. And KLM had a lot of issues with new Boeing 787 from the South Carolina plant. The newest 330 NEO is available in a short flight configuration. Ideal for KLM with their home-base (Schiphol) that's currently declining their flight-slots.

So has the 777-8 program been officially scrapped yet? Because I think it would make a fitting replacement for not only KLM 772s but for BA and United as well given that BA has purchase options for 24 additional 777Xs and United has a huge -200 fleet to replace.
KLM has been using the A330 on smaller demand routes, perhaps the A321XLR could replace it in that role, which might’ve been another reason to pick the NEO over the MAX. Perhaps they’ll also get the 787-8 to make sure the gap in capacity between aircraft types isnt too big
@@woodduck2178 Backlog isn't everything. Price (government subsidies) and rate of production matter. I think Boeing is still struggling to get back on its feet after the MAX issues and various supplier problems from the pandemic lockdowns.
KLM choose the A320Neo family because they wanted the 737 Max 10 and Boeing couldn't give them an exact date when the version would be available. Airbus could, apparently.
Another reason might be because they are in Air France-KLM and Airbus is based in Toulouse in France so the french government might be helping Air France-KLM etc to purchase.
the A330-900 Neo wide body jet is popular with small full service carriers on a budget . . . for e.g. Air Lingus & Virgin Atlantic . . . speaking of narrow body jets KLM should opt for a fleet of 68 brand new A321-200 Neo LR only & not the A320-200 Neo . . . and the remaining 33 brand new A321-200 Neo LR will go to Transavia . . .
They choose airbus because it’s simply so much better then Boeing !!…..and that max story……..it clearly showed that Boeing didn’t hesitate to sacrifice people over profit!!…..even Boeings workers themselves said..”I would never fly one of those !”…well I guess it says it all!!
let's see what happens, there are many options available. But in my opinion, the 787-10 is a good replacement for the 330-300( whit the condition of 2-4-2 in economy) It has the same range, but more capacity, efficiency, quiet, modern, etc. But again, it is just my opinion. They would know what to do. And yes, by going for the 330neo would get less work for training.
The 787-10 is the perfect replacement for their 330-300 in my opinion( whit the condition they put it 2-4-2 configuration) It has the same range, but more capacity, efficiency, quiet, modern, etc. For the 330-200, as it was explained in the video, or the 787-8 or the 330-800neo, but I am not sure. For the 777-300er, indeed the 777X, although they are still very young. And for the 777-200er, the only closet replacement is the 350-900 and probably the future 10er. But let see what they said
@@MarcusNesbitt4 I’m aware but it would’ve suited better for the a330 pilots as it would’ve been smooth transition for them! The same with Aer Lingus they should’ve never gave the a350 to Iberia
Probably moving more to airbus with troubles of the 737/ 787 with boeing and the overall move of ordering a320s as well as the bigger airline in the group, air france is more of an airbus airline so the entire group gets more commonality
Very interesting decision to switch from 737 to A320. That'll require pilot retraining, won't it? I presume they'll do that at an Air France simulator because of their experience with Airbus. I flew with KLM once on the Schipol to Nairobi leg of Dublin to Mombasa back in May 2005. It was an older cabin layout with television screens over the aisles and radio content on the headphones as well. I went through the radio content about 3 times in the flight and the movie was some fantasy thing I didn't really care for. The return leg with Kenya Airways was far better because it had screens in the back of the seats with a lot more entertainment choice.
The problem with the new A320 order is that it still is unclear, even for personnel, whether KLM chose this themselves or got forced into a deal by Air France. It's widely known within KLM that Ben Smith (CEO Air France-KLM group) wants KLM to seize to exist and fly under Air France, although KLM is thoroughly fighting against it
@@joeboogert7055 it's a decision from Smith. KLM's statement was about MAX10 not be certified yet. But the 747, 777 and 787 had the same thing. Ordered before certified. Also KLM just need to use the current 737 fleet of 20 -700, 32 -800, 5 -900 to 22 MAX8, 34 MAX9 and 10 MAX-10. That was big enough. Or 16 MAX8, 28 MAX9 an 12-14 MAX10. That was enough for there extra capacity. KLM isn't allowed to maintain airbus planes (frence do airbus maintenance). So it's political.
@@jouniairplanevideos of course it's a Smith decision, no denying that. There are some spots for KLM maintenance crew to go to Hamburg soon to get training on A320 neo family, so France won't be doing their maintenance luckily... The last time a French jet was in a Dutch hangar, the aircraft was deemed not fit to fly and wasn't able to leave Schiphol because of it
No A359 ad these do not fit the longhaul strategy. KLM will stick to the 777/787 fleet and they are flown with the same pilot pool making the fleet very flexible. The strategy is two types for longhaul with a single pilot pool.
I think KLM would make a decision to slowly retiring all the Boeing 772 before 2030. The aircraft replacement might be B787, B777X or A350 since KLM B772 average age of fleet are nearly 20 years old.
cause airbus is somewhat owned by the state of France and Air France is also owned by them soo it might not look like it is making sense but it inded is making for them
The transition to Airbus is a good move to improve on commonality in the Group as the Airbus aircraft are more reliable. The A350 and the A330-NEO-900 are possible replacement aircraft for its 777 and 787 fleet
They will stay with the 787 and use the 787-10er to replace the 200's. Maybe at some point, they will go 777x. IT will be more efficient and cost effective especially in terms of pilot training. I think the 787 will be their main wide body....not worth bringing Airbus into that world, though I support the A320 move.
Why would they want to do that? The 787 manages to cover both the capabilities of the a350 and a330neo efficiently. the 787-9 replaces the a330 while the 787-10 replaces the 777-200's , no need of increasing complexity by adding two different aircrafts like the 350/330neo while you could use a single aircraft like the 787 to efficiently serve their routes
They will fit the airbus A320neo with the CFM Leap, fleet standardization, cost reduction, and modern technology. KLM never opted for the Max which still is basically a 50 year old design.
As for the reason why KLM decided for Airbus narrowbodies. Besides the obvious reason, to have the same type as Air France operates, I think their might be another reason. I wouldn't be suprised if KLM would try to replace some of their triangle routes in the Caribbean with direct flights. AUA, BON, SXM and POS come to mind. With the A321XLR, at least SXM should be possible. AUA and BON are questionable due to range, I must admit. Even more interesting in the search for cost reduction would be the possibility to move those flights to Transavia.
..At this particular moment it is difficult to tell which new wide body aircraft will be ordered by KLM to replace the aging Boeing 777-200 fleet, the Airbus A330-200 and Airbus A330-300 fleet.. Options are the new Airbus A330-800 NEO and Airbus A330-900 NEO, as well new option purchase for Boeing 787-800, Boeing 787-900 and Boeing 787-1000.. Maybe later this year there will be more clear about their new option for the wide body fleet.. Completely surprising is indeed the purchase by KLM of the Airbus A320 NEO as a middle long and short distance fleet carrier in the narrow body fleet, to comletely replace the aging Boeing 737 fleet.. Maybe also the longer A321 NEO will join the fleet as well, but this is uncertain at this point.. An option would be the new A220-300 NEO.. For sure is, that it is a well known, a proven good aircraft that flies with many operators world wide.. Problems with the Boeing 737-MAX has decided customers to look out for an optional replacement of their aging Boeing 737 fleet, so they had two best options.. That was the new Embreaer E195 E2 and the Airbus A320/A321 NEO.. In some cases even a mix of these two named aircraft in their narrow body fleet.. The Embreaer E-series is produced with parts of Fokker.. We will see what the KLM fleet will be look like with the joining of new purchased aircraft in the near future..!!

A relative large, wonderful, and well shaped aircraft to look at and to fly with.. It is the largest aircraft in the world in the narrow body class.. In 2001 I flew with a Boeing 737-700 of Transavia to Crete, from Maastricht Aachen Airport with a stopover at Rotterdam, to pick up some more passengers.. The fleet of four Boeing 757-200 went out of service of Transavia in 2004 and had being replaced with Boeing 737-800 at that time.. The Boeing 757-2K2 was a very comfortable aircraft to fly with.. The much smaller Boeing 737 is quite more bumpier during flights and more effective for winds.. In 2002 I flew with my parents in a Boeing 777-200ER of Malaysian Airlines to Kuala Lumpur, with a stop over, and switched in Kuala Lumpur to an Airbus A330-200 for the last leg of our journey to Soekarno Hatta International Airport at Jakarta, Java, Indonesia.. We went back from our holiday from Denpasar International Airport, Bali, Indonesia with a Boeing 737-700 of Malaysian Airlines and after a stopover in Kuala Lumpur International Airport, again with the Boeing 777-200ER.. Excellent service on board and very comfortable flights..!! In 2007 I flew with a Boeing 777-300ER of Emirates from Düsseldorf International Airport to Soekarno Hatta International Airport at Jakarta, Indonesia, via Dubai and Colombia, Sri Lanka and with a last stop over in Singapore.. A long flight of twenty hours.. And also returned in the same way back through Düsseldorf International Airport.. Nowdays, luckily, there are direct flights trough Jakarta.. KLM choose the A320Neo family because they wanted the 737 Max 10 and Boeing couldn't give them an exact date when the version would be available. Airbus could, apparently.
The a350-900 is the aircraft it chose for the 777 the 330 replacement being unknown
Wel apart eigenlijk dat we met klm altijd meer banden hebben gehad met het Amerikaanse Boeing dan met ons eigen Europese airbus
I thought Avianca was second oldest airline in the world.
KLM is a subsidiary of air france now. They have no claim to oldest anything. It's like Hawaii claiming to be a country.
@@fedoraphill8599 It's part of a new group, but also still exists on its own. Be less full of shit.
@@fedoraphill8599 KLM is a subsidiary of AIR FRANCE KLM group not AIR FRANCE. The two airlines merged.
I mean if boeing really is going for the production with the B777-8 maybe KLM will go for that
Another reason might be because they are in Air France-KLM and Airbus is based in Toulouse in France so the french government might be helping Air France-KLM etc to purchase.
smith hate klm and Elbers that's why
can i request a philippine airlines of this long haul episode i want to see the "asia's oldest airline"
They can simply go for the a330-300 and 777-300er
Scandinavian Airlines next?
the A330-900 Neo wide body jet is popular with small full service carriers on a budget . . .
Would be soon flying the KLM 777-300er BOM to AMS 9hrs.
4:18 i do suggest all the airlines that owns a330-200 or-300, should use a330neos to replace them
let's see what happens, there are many options available.
Not me. The 787 is a much better passenger environment. So glad Hawaiian is going to start replacing their A330's with 787's.
Whey they just replace dc10 and now again?
KLM IS REQUESTED TO KINDLY START FLYING DAILY FROM AMSTERDAM TO AMRITSAR ( ATQ ) PUNJAB , INDIA AS SOON AS POSSIBLE PLEASE .
Surprised you didn't bring in the A350 as a possible replacement for the 777 and A333.
Because , they aready have a replacement. The 787-8 and 787-9
What about Qantas - the longest continually operating airline
Thanks for the feedback! - LR
I think they will replace the a330 with the 787 - 8 and 200er with 787 - 10er, that is unless they decided to switch to the a350
The 787-10 is the perfect replacement for their 330-300 in my opinion( whit the condition they put it 2-4-2 configuration) It has the same range, but more capacity, efficiency, quiet, modern, etc. For the 330-200, as it was explained in the video, or the 787-8 or the 330-800neo, but I am not sure. For the 777-300er, indeed the 777X, although they are still very young. And for the 777-200er, the only closet replacement is the 350-900 and probably the future 10er. But let see what they said
a350 won't come any time soon or later to klm
KLM ❤ 🇳🇱🔝
Personally I think they would suit the A359
They had an order for A350 but swapped it with Air France for 787s - presumably for fleet commonality.
@@MarcusNesbitt4 I’m aware but it would’ve suited better for the a330 pilots as it would’ve been smooth transition for them! The same with Aer Lingus they should’ve never gave the a350 to Iberia
@@malvinjnrn7784 they’re moving away from airbus for longer haul flights i think
Probably moving more to airbus with troubles of the 737/ 787 with boeing and the overall move of ordering a320s as well as the bigger airline in the group, air france is more of an airbus airline so the entire group gets more commonality
Qantas next!
Air france forced them to buy Airbus, because French DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, like KLM had a choice 🙄
The last time a French jet was in a Dutch hangar, the aircraft was deemed not fit to fly and wasn't able to leave Schiphol because of it
@@joeboogert7055 really? so engines and other realated stuff wich are done by (airbus frence, boeing the Netherlands) agreement doesn't work anymore?
@@jouniairplanevideos apparently not anymore, your average A check will be performed at Schiphol by the time the planes will be delivered
I like the Boeing 737 fleet
cathay next please!
Great airline hindered by Boeing’s ineptness.
Qantas is the oldest continuously operated airline.
no you are banned from flying klm
It's a year younger than KLM, how can they be the oldest continuously operating airline when KLM never suspended service?
Why KLM doesn’t have Airbus A380…???
Why didn’t KLM choose the MAX?
I suspect they may go for the A359 to replace their B772s and A332s.
No A359 ad these do not fit the longhaul strategy. KLM will stick to the 777/787 fleet and they are flown with the same pilot pool making the fleet very flexible. The strategy is two types for longhaul with a single pilot pool.
@@jeromeprins6164 let wait to see what happens
I think KLM would make a decision to slowly retiring all the Boeing 772 before 2030. The aircraft replacement might be B787, B777X or A350 since KLM B772 average age of fleet are nearly 20 years old.
cause airbus is somewhat owned by the state of France and Air France is also owned by them soo it might not look like it is making sense but it inded is making for them
"KLM Deep Dive" (No, not literally)
Consider doing a video about Air Algérie ❤🤍🇩🇿
British Airways was founded in 1974. It´s pure Nonsense that she is the oldest Airline in the World.
yay klm news
KLM should’ve stayed standalone. I have a feeling a demerger from AF will happen at some point.
KLM makes money.
Air france doesnt.
But there are routes that you just cannot close.
true, that's why the neo's are coming along. also why Elbers must leave KLM
I like there name
Im surprised that they still fly the a330s and havent replaced them with more efficient aircraft like a33N, a350 or the 787
The transition to Airbus is a good move to improve on commonality in the Group as the Airbus aircraft are more reliable. The A350 and the A330-NEO-900 are possible replacement aircraft for its 777 and 787 fleet
it's not good, KLM is not a brand of airfrance. so they choose their on planes like in the past. they want boeing but smith forced this ofcourse
The 787 manages to cover both the capabilities of the a350 and a330neo efficiently.
the 787-9 replaces the a330 while the 787-10 replaces the 777-200's ,
no need of increasing complexity by adding two different aircrafts like the 350/330neo while you could use a single aircraft like the 787 to efficiently serve their routes
They will fit the airbus A320neo with the CFM Leap, fleet standardization, cost reduction, and modern technology. KLM never opted for the Max which still is basically a 50 year old design.
KLM did has very good talks with boeing. but bully smith has to do something against Elbers and KLM
90000K
KLM is owned by air france. Therefore they are not an independent carrier and have no claim.
If only that was true. KLM and AIR FRANCE merged together making it AIR FRANCE-KLM group but continue to fly under their own names
Even more interesting in the search for cost reduction would be the possibility to move those flights to Transavia.
work of smith, the greatest bully of th whole group
Pandemic is unlikely to be the cause since they took 2 77Ws last year
..At this particular moment it is difficult to tell which new wide body aircraft will be ordered by KLM to replace the aging Boeing 777-200 fleet, the Airbus A330-200 and Airbus A330-300 fleet..
We will see what the KLM fleet will be look like with the joining of new purchased aircraft in the near future..!!
..I flew in my holidays in 1999 and 2000 with the Boeing 757-2K2 (B757-200), PH-TKD, of Transavia to Nikos Kazantzikas International Airport at Crete, Greece, from Maastricht Aachen Airport..
A very stabile and comfortable aircraft to fly with..
Excellent service on board and definitely one of my favourite operators to fly with..!!
Garuda Indonesia predecessor
Garuda Indonesia next?
From holland here. Ever since america 1st talks we liked european made planes better, besides that the 737 max scam plane has a really bad rap. I would not board one.
Wonder if KLM can order more 787-10 and put them on a 2-4-2 configuration( I need another airline obedient to the rules of comfort) to replace the 330-300. I think it is just the perfect place, it has the same range and little more capacity but is better in many ways, modern, and efficient. ( and I hope my comment doesn't hurt any Airbus fans) and yes, probably the 330-800neo or the 787-8 for their 330-200. While for the 777-200er, they can wait for Boeing to make the 787-10er or probably go for the 350-900 whit is currently the most indicate replacement for the 777-200.
KLM fleet plan:
Replace all A330s with 11 787-9s
Replace the 777-200ER with 15 787-10ERs.
Compliment/Replace the 777-300ER with an order of 10 777-9s. The 777-9 will replace 4 777-300ERs that are then converted into freighters to replace the 747-400ERF/BCF.
I am proud to be dutch
Maybe it's because dying for the MAX would be a huge waste!
not decent comment but not wrong also
BA is not the oldest
Hi
KLM should move to the Airbus A 330-900 and the A 350-1000 which would keep it in tandem with Air France. Moving to the A320/21 is a very good move
It's a very bad thing, planes wich has a skin damage and strange updates on flightcontrols and a massive frence ego of Smith and airfrence are very bad for KLM. Those would like to make KLM a blue af plane. Just a name. We must prefent them for taking over Schiphol and KLM
The only memory I have with KLM is the Tenerife air crash caused by their captain…
I would avoid Air China 🇨🇳 not just past crash 737 I ment their government
Sounds like they went with the company that gave out the most discount 🤔
Of course they chose the 320/321 over the 737! Long overdue if you ask me. I guess KLM just woke up to reality and realised Airbus planes are better economically and more customer friendly at the same time.
hahahaha, what a joke!! you've a "good" reality Smith forced this down Elbers an KLM's asses.
Shame for KLM, but dominated bij air france, they had to go for airbus ! Stupid , all their experienced pilots on Boeing have to fly french airbus
indeed aklso technicains wich may not work on airbus cause that;s a rule within the group. boeing maintenace at KLM and airbus at af
merger klm airfrance
that isnt an merger idiot
nooo why tf they adding airbus. boeing is way cooler and better
guesses why KLM went for the 320?
Well Airbus is essentially based in France, so Air France can never make the switch to boeing.
To keep 73's at KLM is just bad economy of scale.
it's the work of bully smith
