    By the time you’ve bought the starter kit $117 & the panels $460 your out almost $600 bucks. Better off the get your harbor freight angle grinder $29 and cut them and go to rock auto and buy a set of panels $300. Get you a used 110 cheapo welder and do it right. Now, you got a welder and grinder too boot for your next project. Your mileage may very.

    I guess i can see the need for this product...but its not my choice. Just checked on the covers... $400.00 is a bit much for plastic. I bought a set of steel rockers just a little over $100.00 online ...i cut out the old rockers and a local guy welded the new ones on for $100 a side. I used a small amount of filler, then painted them...When all was said and done i was in to the project for just about the same $400.00 as buying plastic. IF the plastic ones were $99.00 or something...i could see the reason for buying them (you'd save hundreds of dollars). Seems like they are a band-aid on a bullet wound. But Anyway...nice job on the video....truck looks nice after the cover were put on. You did a good job explaining the process.

      I've been feeling the same way. I have rusted out cab corners and rocker panels and debating between just doing new metal, body filler, primer and paint, or these covers. Everyone complaining and saying they're going to fall off, they cost too much, it's gunna rust even faster, bla bla bla..... 1. Use some 3M urethane and apply a bead around the entire lip and on all the other surfaces, it holds your windshield in it'll definitely hold these on and seal out any road grime. 2. Yes they cost a little bit compared to steel slip ons or replacements but the cost for a shop to install them is typically thousands over these covers and I can guarantee you they're going to rust again (unless you don't drive the vehicle in the rain or snow ever again which that's not what these are for) and you'll be replacing them again. 3. If you treat the rust underneath, cut it out and treat the bare metal, or use one of the multiple coatings out there to treat and stop the chemical reaction that is causing the rust the do as I said in 1 and you'll be good. Don't be scared to not get fucked by a shop. P.S. I work at a body shop doing paint and body work. Have done tons of rockers and cab corners, and have also replaced tons of replacements..... BUT! If you enjoy watching your ride rust over and over again and sometimes paying more or half of what your vehicle is worth then hey you do you, I don't hate ya for it. Keeps the lights on.

    • @thommiller9941

    I question how will they stand up to rural gravel roads. I am guessing they will be ground up by the gravel coming off the front wheels. Sure you can put mud flaps on the front but I still have my doubts. Plus $400 + repair seems expensive if you can do the metal replacements yourself.

    • @harvestblades
      @harvestblades 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The key with your comment is "if you can do metal replacements yourself" I agree, but this is a lot less work, cost, & it doesn't require the tools or skillset to replace with metal. I think a coating of bed liner or a similar thick, hard or rubberized coating would bne best. I am in Omaha, & between the salt, sand, extreme cold, slush, wet weather, & the gravel you kick up if you drive dirt roads a lot or daily I am curious how the plastic holds up. My biggest concern & I think they do a good job of addressing is getting all the crap, rust, salt etc out of the rocker as well as sealling it and or neutralizing as it is when the rockers or wherever continues to hold the wet gunk against exposed metal that corrosion really accelerates quickly. I initially thought they were going to use self tapers to secure the plastic so was glad to see the use of pop rivets. This product isn't a perfect fix, but if done right, I think it could be a good answer for those with budget, time, or skill constraints, and would improve the look of the vehicle, & if done right give youy several more years before that hidden rusty rocker rots away above the rocker or causing it to sag or flap.

    $400 for a set for my 2004 Chevy 1500, no way in hell lol. If you're gonna glue something on you may as well get a set of slip on rockers and some adhesive... That being said, these things will cause whatever's behind them to rust twice as fast until your $400 flimsy plastic covers fall off the truck and get run over. Good idea, but WAY overpriced for the guy that wants to do a hack, slap, and forget it
    job

    This would get huge fines in Manitoba. You haven't fixed anything, you've just covered the rust so that it can continue rotting your truck inside of those.

  • @thommiller9941

    Is this a joke? Rocker panel’s generally rust from the inside out. How are you going to paint the INSIDE of the rocker panels - where it matters?
    And rocker panels are structural. Once you glue these on, and your rocker panels continue to rust away, will these plastic pieces provide the same structural integrity as steel rocker panels.
    And rocker panels have drain holes, to allow the moisture out. How do these plastic ones allow the rocker panels to breath.
    This isn’t a repair at all. It’s lipstick on a pig.
