Just got done replaying VII the other day and am starting Remake. Perfect timing. lmao The chibi models have their charm but I've always loved the battle designs so much. Definitely gotta try that one at the least sometime. Not to mention how amazing the fact that one way or another, the pre-rendered backgrounds have been preserved so we no longer have to play in the slushy soup re-releases offer.
I'm generally not a mod person, I either a. want the original "game feel" or b. don't like what can sometimes be a long-ass process, but I just downloaded this mod, installed and it just works, does exactly as advertised and my save was right where I was no worries about it not being compatible. Great stuff, thanks for introducing me to this. Now I just kinda regret not seeing the opening with all the improvements but I'm 9 hours in now so no going back lol

I legit hate that version just because they really just did half the work on it. Thr backgrounds are absolutely necessary to fix and yet they didn't. For sure disappoints me on that front
I have to say I am rather fond of my 1997 memories of the lego-characters of FF7. But for years people have been modding the PC version to add better models and textures (long before it was added to steam) and it's great to finally see all those improvements come together.
Make sure your FF7 is clean and fresh, no mods installed to be safe. Just open the installer and lead it to where its located. That's pretty much it. It does the work for you. If all else fails read the dev Readme.
The thought that there's some guy, or maybe girl, who's a millennial, or maybe a zoomer who likes retro, in a room in the house next door to you, just working on mods for fun and no monetary return for finishing the work, but just wanted to improve the experience for themselves and to share with others, is a very heartwarming thought
I never thought of it like that but you are right 100%. We owe a lot of love and appreciation to such talented and smart individuals who are able to improve the games we grew up on for a wide audience. That in itself is an incredible thing
Final Fantasy 8, Final Fantasy 9 and Legend of Dragoon were the jrpgs I had the opportunity to play when I was a kid. Unfortunately, for some reason Final Fantasy 7 went under my radar at the time. For years and years I've wanted to play it, but I've never done it because of the impression that it's a dated game. Time passed and I never took the time to try. Last month, after finishing FF7 Remake and feeling that the game had basically none of the classic features of the original game (or basically any of the qualities of any good old-school rpg game in my opinion), that desire to play FF7 returned. So i started looking for a "definitive version" to play and be able to enjoy the game at the most... and thanks to your video I think I finally found it! So thank you!

Well because it kind of is. The reason people are nervous when it comes to these kind of topics is the potential of being in a lawsuit with these companies for either violating copyright or using IPs without permission, and for thr GTA modders for example are being sued by Take Two. Now I'm not saying this is right because it clearly isn't on the side of the IP holders. I love it when modders pour so much love and care i to these projects. It isn't a sensitivity issue. It's a "I'm nervous to get in a million dollar suit" situation which is very possible dependent on the company

Unfortunetly I really can't say from personal experience since I haven't used any other mods besides this specific one. However I do know this works with 7th heaven manager so...idk how helpful it is but i hope it does work to some degree
there are two versions of ff7 on steam, is the original release the only one thats works? I am a computer noob and never done a mod. from the link on Qhimm says file cannot be downloaded securely , I have no idea what I am doing .
This is for thr OG version of FF7, not the REmake or Crisis Core. For the link, I'm not sure to help you but the file should be able to be downloaded. Check your firewall settings to be sure you can download. Lastly it's a fairly simple install and should take care of itself. Good luck, you got this.
@@Kelphelp just tried it out this is so much better than the old school 7th heaven/ff7 rejuvenated tho i see they updated 7th heaven too so it might be better than last time i tried it, it would crash all the time and i just remember it being overall very buggy. What you say in the video is accurate this is a very easy mod to install and it works with steam achievements!

I have a question. Is this compatable with the New Threat 2.0 mod? Especially during Game B? It's the only mod I'm using right now aside from a .config file to get my XBox One controller to play nice with it.
is this still being updated? is this the final version. when I look online for this i see different versions where overworld cloud is an updated old character model but still looked like this one does but ONLY in BATTLE vs. this one looks like a completely new model at all times.
I think at the time of the video the link was definitely up but I noticed the author must have taken it off months after. I haven't researched where to get it but it should be completed somewhere
@@Kelphelp There was an update made in April I found along with the installer. It now has option of dynamic lighting and real time shadows for all the character models. Looks really cool. The link you have in your description is active with this 5.42 update.
Does anyone know if there's a way to back up one's save data for the Yatoshi mod? It does say in the interface of the launcher that it does not share the same files as the regular Steam ones. I can't find where in my PC's directories does it store the save data for it. I'm asking because I recently wanted to free up some space on my PC, thinking it might help my unit run a little better and smoother for VII Remake Intergrade. So I decided to uninstall my Steam app, thinking I could always reinstall it at a future date. Very, very big mistake... I noticed in the uninstallation progress window that some files said FF VII in them in some way, so I was getting nervous as what that meant. I next noticed that there was no trace left of the Yatoshi mod at all still remaining on my PC. I also didn't realize that one has to have both the Steam app, and the Steam version of FF VII installed for the Yatoshi mod to work. So I reinstalled Steam out of curiosity, but I quickly realized my worst fear had come true. I must have lost all my previous data from my Yatoshi mod earlier when I uninstalled Steam! All that hard work, completely gone... And I recently had just even finally beat the Emerald and Ruby weapons on there, too... ... I've only got two options left. Either play through the whole Yatoshi mod again, as everything is already set up and is very easy to use, but just never uninstall Steam from my unit. Or, play FF VII through Steam regularly, but find other ways to mod it, which would take a lot of time and effort. I really like the new style of character models, animations, and upscaled backgrounds in the Yatoshi mod, and there's nothing else that comes close or is similar to it anywhere else. I DO NOT want to have to go back to those awful chibi models. A note of caution to everyone: If you plan on using the Yatoshi mod to play through FF VII, NEVER, EVER, uninstall the Steam app from your PC! It will delete every trace of the Yatoshi mod, including your progress! Until someone can pinpoint where the save data is stored so backup files can be created, this is the only way I know so far as of this writing to go about these. I hope my experience can help others from an otherwise terrible fate...
Everyone, I have an update. If you hover your mouse cursor over the SY mod icon on your desktop, it should begin to display the file path to where in your computer it is being stored. In my case, it's Program files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII. There should then be a small folder named "save". And that is where the save data for the Yatoshi mod is stored. I experimented a little by creating a copy of the first save file there and placing it in another location. I then deleted the file in the native save folder. When I booted up the Yatoshi mod again, sure enough, there appeared to be no save data left. And when I exited, and copied and pasted that save file back into the native save folder, the progress was back! As if nothing else ever happened. All this said, I do wish the save data was stored somewhere else from the beginning. But with the Yatoshi mod being based on the Steam version of FF VII, then I guess it would require Steam and its assets. If you ever have to uninstall Steam for whatever reason, make sure you have backed up all of your save files in the Yatoshi mod first in another location. I would suggest doing it for both another location in your PC, as well as an external drive of some kind such as a USB stick. Actually, it would be good to back up all of your save data for all of your games in all of your systems in some way. You just never know if you'll experience an accident.

Hmmm, is it updated? I am not entirely sure why, but it should be working. I bought the game, updated, installed the title and worked great! Uninstall and reinstall if anything.
Very nice mod! But I've a small problem. My vanilla Install is in english but the SYW Mod starts in spanish! Is there a way to change the language of the mod?

I had to go into the destination folder and delete the other language .exes and manifests and keep the .en ones. Mine launched in Spanish before I did this.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to activate the battle boost in this mod? You know, the one that instantly gives you full HP, full MP, and full Limit Break gauge, all just by clicking down on the left stick in the console versions? There’s the random battle disabler. There’s the speed up. But no where on the startup interface of this mod describes the battle boost.

Looks like one has to do everything the old-fashioned way, especially including the Battle Arena fights, and the encounters with the Emerald and Ruby Weapons, etc. Ugh... Hi! I recently bought the game and while searching mods, I chose satsuki yatoshi mod. It runs and i like how there are options but once I started the game I noticed it actually runs as if its a different game not in steam, therefore it doesn't show on recently played and no playtime. Unfortunately I want to play the game while my playtime is being recorded and also want to use steam overlay for screenshot and such. is there a solution? thanks

Go to steam and right click FFVII go to manage and browse local files - delete all files there. Then again on steam right click FFVII and uninstall. Redownload the game then install the SYM.exe. I just had this problem aswell and couldn't find anything online to help and this worked for me.

@@Kelphelp But whenever I try to play this mod using the updated/arranged music, the game would eventually either crash, or just not even start. I don't know what's wrong. So I've since always just played it using its original music, which isn't too bad.

Because whenever I tick the check box to use the new music, THAT is when the game crashes/does not function correctly. So I leave that check box off and just use the original PS1 music for now.
@@Kelphelp Apologies. One checks on the PSX Musics box if they want to use the original PS1 music. And I'm assuming one would leave it unchecked if they want to use the new music. It's the new music that never works for me and causes the whole game and mod to crash.

Excuse me sir, we had a misunderstanding a while back. The mod is actually Satsuki but you put Sasuke. That was the misunderstanding. Sasuke and Satsuki we're very similar so I apologize for the misunderstanding
I got that too but was still able to download it all for free without having to get a plan. It stopped around 5 GB but what I did was pin the Mega upload site with the partially downloaded file in my chrome browser since it was asking me to wait few hours before it would let me finish the download free. After I rebooted my computer and went back to it let me continue downloading the installer file and then I could save the actual file.
Damn Sephy asking this question. You should know man ;) I kid, but I haven't played Remako mod, but this was damn easy to install so take that as you will!
The readmes in each mod should help with installation of each. Tske it slow, troubleshoot one mod at a time and you should be fine. If ya need further assistance don't hesitate to come to the discord for more help

Actually you can! There is a check list of what you want to turn on and what not. So you do have flexibility

Most likely this does so keep in mind. But then again achievements can be subjective so it's up to you

Are the menus 60fps? because on the ps4 version it's not and basically makes doing Tifa's LB near impossible to perfect.
Naw you can't. Raising FPS to y9 has game breaking issues so recommended to keep it at stock.

is this still being updated? is this the final version. when I look online for this i see different versions where overworld cloud is an updated old character model but still looked like this one does but ONLY in BATTLE vs. this one looks like a completely new model at all times.
I think at the time of the video the link was definitely up but I noticed the author must have taken it off months after. I haven't researched where to get it but it should be completed somewhere
@@Kelphelp There was an update made in April I found along with the installer. It now has option of dynamic lighting and real time shadows for all the character models. Looks really cool. The link you have in your description is active with this 5.42 update.

Does anyone know if there's a way to back up one's save data for the Yatoshi mod? It does say in the interface of the launcher that it does not share the same files as the regular Steam ones. I can't find where in my PC's directories does it store the save data for it.
I'm asking because I recently wanted to free up some space on my PC, thinking it might help my unit run a little better and smoother for VII Remake Intergrade. So I decided to uninstall my Steam app, thinking I could always reinstall it at a future date.
Very, very big mistake...
I noticed in the uninstallation progress window that some files said FF VII in them in some way, so I was getting nervous as what that meant. I next noticed that there was no trace left of the Yatoshi mod at all still remaining on my PC. I also didn't realize that one has to have both the Steam app, and the Steam version of FF VII installed for the Yatoshi mod to work.
So I reinstalled Steam out of curiosity, but I quickly realized my worst fear had come true. I must have lost all my previous data from my Yatoshi mod earlier when I uninstalled Steam! All that hard work, completely gone... And I recently had just even finally beat the Emerald and Ruby weapons on there, too... ...
I've only got two options left. Either play through the whole Yatoshi mod again, as everything is already set up and is very easy to use, but just never uninstall Steam from my unit. Or, play FF VII through Steam regularly, but find other ways to mod it, which would take a lot of time and effort. I really like the new style of character models, animations, and upscaled backgrounds in the Yatoshi mod, and there's nothing else that comes close or is similar to it anywhere else. I DO NOT want to have to go back to those awful chibi models.
A note of caution to everyone: If you plan on using the Yatoshi mod to play through FF VII, NEVER, EVER, uninstall the Steam app from your PC! It will delete every trace of the Yatoshi mod, including your progress! Until someone can pinpoint where the save data is stored so backup files can be created, this is the only way I know so far as of this writing to go about these.
I hope my experience can help others from an otherwise terrible fate...

Everyone, I have an update.
If you hover your mouse cursor over the SY mod icon on your desktop, it should begin to display the file path to where in your computer it is being stored. In my case, it's Program files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII. There should then be a small folder named "save". And that is where the save data for the Yatoshi mod is stored.
I experimented a little by creating a copy of the first save file there and placing it in another location. I then deleted the file in the native save folder. When I booted up the Yatoshi mod again, sure enough, there appeared to be no save data left. And when I exited, and copied and pasted that save file back into the native save folder, the progress was back! As if nothing else ever happened.
All this said, I do wish the save data was stored somewhere else from the beginning. But with the Yatoshi mod being based on the Steam version of FF VII, then I guess it would require Steam and its assets.
If you ever have to uninstall Steam for whatever reason, make sure you have backed up all of your save files in the Yatoshi mod first in another location. I would suggest doing it for both another location in your PC, as well as an external drive of some kind such as a USB stick. Actually, it would be good to back up all of your save data for all of your games in all of your systems in some way. You just never know if you'll experience an accident.

I think so but can't remember from the top of my memory. You can easily delete the mod if it doesn't.

Hmmm, is it updated? I am not entirely sure why, but it should be working. I bought the game, updated, installed the title and worked great! Uninstall and reinstall if anything.
Very nice mod! But I've a small problem. My vanilla Install is in english but the SYW Mod starts in spanish! Is there a way to change the language of the mod?

I had to go into the destination folder and delete the other language .exes and manifests and keep the .en ones. Mine launched in Spanish before I did this.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to activate the battle boost in this mod? You know, the one that instantly gives you full HP, full MP, and full Limit Break gauge, all just by clicking down on the left stick in the console versions?
There’s the random battle disabler. There’s the speed up. But no where on the startup interface of this mod describes the battle boost.

@@Kelphelp I've since figured as much. When no one was replying, I knew that this wasn't gonna change. Looks like one has to do everything the old-fashioned way, especially including the Battle Arena fights, and the encounters with the Emerald and Ruby Weapons, etc. Ugh...

Hi! I recently bought the game and while searching mods, I chose satsuki yatoshi mod. It runs and i like how there are options but once I started the game I noticed it actually runs as if its a different game not in steam, therefore it doesn't show on recently played and no playtime. Unfortunately I want to play the game while my playtime is being recorded and also want to use steam overlay for screenshot and such. is there a solution? thanks
Yea so if you are playing this mod you can't use your old save files. This uses entirely new ones.

Love your content mate, decided to give a try to my fave game of all time with this mod, bought the game off instant games throught steam key, when i go to install the mod it says " This ff vii version is not the vanilla version " and it doesn't let me install the sym, any help? Nope those are part of it. You should be able to toggle settings within the mod itself in the installation files. Just like in the vid

Hmmmmm I'm not sure tbh. It was a straight one for me. Check forums or readmes.
Go to steam and right click FFVII go to manage and browse local files - delete all files there. Then again on steam right click FFVII and uninstall. Redownload the game then install the SYM.exe. I just had this problem aswell and couldn't find anything online to help and this worked for me.

Prolly to render less on screen. FFVII was a major title for Square so makes sense why they were getting used to the hardware.

Arranged? You mean the PS1 mod? Should work fine with a clean install. Installed it s couple times and worked fine

Because whenever I tick the check box to use the new music, THAT is when the game crashes/does not function correctly. So I leave that check box off and just use the original PS1 music for now.
@@Kelphelp Apologies. One checks on the PSX Musics box if they want to use the original PS1 music. And I'm assuming one would leave it unchecked if they want to use the new music.
It's the new music that never works for me and causes the whole game and mod to crash.

I got that too but was still able to download it all for free without having to get a plan. It stopped around 5 GB but what I did was pin the Mega upload site with the partially downloaded file in my chrome browser since it was asking me to wait few hours before it would let me finish the download free. After I rebooted my computer and went back to it let me continue downloading the installer file and then I could save the actual file.

Never liked those reworked models - personally the upscaler and 60fps mod is good enough for me.
There should be a way to turn them off and just keep the changes like that. Check the menu and I'm sure you can find the setting
