    Oh what a pity you are having such a hassle getting the RV fixed. Not a pleasant way to start the year. The good news is you and the children are healthy, have a roof over your heads and can sit this out. Hopefully not too long. Best of luck. 👍 ❤️ 🙏 🙋‍♀️

    Oh no! Sorry to hear all your delays etc. Good luck. I can’t wait to hear the end result. I hope it’s all favorable to you. Thanks for the tips. Glad to hear you have your dads place to park in.

    We had so many problems with our Norcold 2118 in our 2020 Grand Design. It just wouldn’t cool adequately. We finally gave up and upgraded with a compressor built and installed by JC Refrigeration in Shipshewana, IN. It is amazing now.

    • @TheRoadLessTraveledShow

      We have a Dometic. Interesting to hear you had issues with a Norcold. Did you pay out of pocket got the new fridge or did warranty cover any of it?

    • @bugsinthegrille6414
      @bugsinthegrille6414 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We paid out-of-pocket for the new AC compressor (DC was also an option) It became clear that there is no real fix for the Norcold cooling unit. We really like the Norcold refrigerator (the actual box), and now with the new compressor, it works great. We have hard ice cream for the first time.

      We have met many full-timers with the same Norcold issue.

    You should go to the Manufacturer to get them to step in. Believe it or not sometimes Dealers will do things to a rig in the hope of making you happy but it can void your entire warranty. Almost lost my warranty when a dealer was trying to make us happy by just getting a repair, but it wasn't an authorized repair by the manufacturer which would have voided our warranty. It's best to build a relationship with the manufacturer and let them help with the repair process. Good Luck with the repairs..

    In your assessment of things you could have done..... Especially as a newbie, hire an inspector. Many of the items I am hearing on this video would have been found in an inspection and could have been fixed before the rig left the lot. New rigs often have issues and many people leave all the inspections up to the dealer but this is an example of how sideways some new purchases can go. Good luck to you and hopefully Grand Design will step it up to get you on the road again!

    • @TheRoadLessTraveledShow
      @TheRoadLessTraveledShow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a great suggestion! Naively we thought we wouldn’t need an inspection with a new rig. Oh the lessons we’ve learned!

  • @DreamingOutloudRVing

    Wow! So sorry for your troubles! Grand Design should trade you into another rig at their expense. Thanks for sharing, Paul & Magen

    We are in a small camping group that camps once a month. In our group we have two families that have the same rig as yours. Both of them had the refrigerators go out within the first couple of months. Thought I’d throw that out there. There is a problem with those refrigerators and I’m not sure what the problem is but beware. Hope you get your rig back soon. ❤️❤️

    Since your roof issue is going to be an insurance job, if it were me I would consider using rvroofinstall.com to fix the roof issue for good. Check them out. I know, they are in GA but when it comes to your roof, it’s the life of your RV. These people really know what they are doing and seem to care about repairing RV’s the right way.
    We are also in the Gulf Shores area. Good luck.

    Factory ordered our 2017 Jayco Eagle 5th wheel hoping for a problem free unit. Auto level did not function and it took 3 trips to the dealer before it was properly fixed. Then I hit a tree stump on our first trip and did $1000 damage. Took 6 weeks to get parts and another week to repair. Then the slide broke and that took 6 weeks to get parts and another week to repair (under warranty). Lots of other minor failures that I repaired myself because I did not want to make a special trip to the dealership. In the end, I would do it again. My wife and I were fussy and we got exactly what we wanted by ordering from the factory. We will probably keep this trailer for as long as possible.

    • @TheRoadLessTraveledShow
      @TheRoadLessTraveledShow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, that sounds like a typical story with RVs. Waiting on parts is the worst! Thanks for the comment.

    RV trailers are not houses. They are designed to live in a few weeks a year, not full time. They are not designed for continuous residential use.

    Hate to hear these problems. Warranty coverage at the dealer Sucks. They have no incentive to get your rig fixed in a timely manner. You get punished for having a warranty. I like using a mobile tech. Costs a little more but have had good results. I have also bought a used trailer (normally about 2 years old) that way the bugs are worked out. Good Luck with the repairs.

    • @TheRoadLessTraveledShow
      @TheRoadLessTraveledShow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are so right! There’s no incentive for them to get the repairs done. We used a mobile tech once and didn’t have luck. I’m sure there are better ones out there so it will be an option in the future.

      DRV?

      @@TheRoadLessTraveledShow I follow many RV channels. I'm under the impression that the best full time RV brand name for warranty and comfort seems to be DRV Suites. www.drvsuites.com/ I have no experience with them. Although I was a REP for a conversion company out of Elkhart for several years so I am very experience in dealing with warranty work in the industry. I have a deep understanding of their manufacturing procedures and expectations. I would look into them in your spare time. Also I would look into Heavy Duty RV Haulers too. Those big trucks are very sweet to drive. I have 1/3 of a million miles in big trucks myself so I know how they handle. To me it's a safety question. They are much safer than a pickup truck. Plus the resale value is pretty good. Buy a used one for say $50,000.00 and put another 500,000 miles on it easy. We would be out there with you if it weren't for health issues ourselves. It's hell getting old.

    I agree. Go directly to Grand Design.

      We actually called them and considered bringing it to Indiana, but their available appointments were 3 months out.

  • @ldcross11475

    Stop Messing with RV dealers go directly to Grand Design to get the rig fixed. You are under warranty so GD is obligated to fix it. Call GD and tell them you are coming and set up a repair visit.

    • @TheRoadLessTraveledShow
      @TheRoadLessTraveledShow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We’ve thought about that but we don’t want to be in Indiana this time of year and being there in better weather conditions takes us away from where we want to be. If this persists, we’ll consider it as an option but we’ll give this dealer another week or so to get it together.

    All the reviews of Grand Design I believe this has been one or if not the worst review of customer service. You should call Grand Design yourself. Grand Design customer service has put them at the top of manufactors.

    • @TheRoadLessTraveledShow
      @TheRoadLessTraveledShow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s why we went with Grand Design. So far they’ve been ok - not outstanding but not terrible. I think this is more of a RV repair shop issue than GD.
