Old grades are very cool. I've found old spikes and even a chunk of rail that they missed when they ripped up the tracks. What amazes me is how many old rail logging grades there are spread over the landscape. We have LIDAR images of our Forest now that make them stick out like sore thumbs. Cool old stuff.....
Old spikes, very cool indeed. I've never found anything like that out there. Yeah those old beds are al over the place, a lot of cool history. I have always wanted to canoe down the Manistee in the spring and see if I can find any old logs with the lumber company brands on the end yet that might get unearthed in the spring runoff.

Thats wild that you could even realize what was there.
Crazy thing is I've been by that spot before and never noticed it.
