Just found you today March 2023. Husband from VA. We now live in NH. Totally different weather..tougher flowers and bushes! Love purple too. We are zone 5 but sometimes I believe we are a slight 4!! Can't plant my calililles anymore at least not in the ground. We do above ground alot in troughs and planters..does great. Very short season here. So have to plant all bloomers at different times. Learning still. Takes years..enjoy your story..we have sand soil that needs amending all the time. Some vegetables love sand like watermelon cantaloupe and so forth. Your yard is beautiful. Beautiful oak tree. Hydrangeas do well here on sides of house to block wind.

I work in my little garden because I miss my mom who had a beautiful garden on Fripp Island. It makes feel close to her. And my garden is where I pray. We have a second property in Charleston, I love walking in the gardens in that city! My mom passed on her love of Charleston to me.
