    SUMMARY NOTES (w/ TIMESTAMPS)
Watched this a while back but had to come back and take notes as was too valuable!
    11:39
you can't see the results from what you've created - feedback mechanisms are delayed/nonexistent nowadays
    13:33
    man's search for meaning
    forgotten highlander
    recommended books to checkout
    16:04
it's all about contrast, perspective, and positioning - that's life → you get what you think
    17:18
Brett Mckay art of manliness podcast episode and Shane Parish
    checkout!
    18:43
    Reasoning from analogy
    19:36
Paul Graham's why not to start a startup essay
    23:00
    Analyse relationships from first principles
    24:33
George now views life from variables of time and energy and not other arbitrary ways such as comparison to what others are doing or what society expects
    26:22
    Double Think
    26:30
    Nassim Taleb's barbell strategy
    27:45
super interesting! it's paradoxical but you must be able to fully believe in different things at different times when appropriate
    27:49
    Matthew Syed analogy with golfers
    30:40
    signal vs noise
    32:02
read a lindy book (something that's been around d for a while - changes are there's signal there
    33:09
ANALYSE THE GREATS! IF YOU'RE INTO ENTREPRENEURSHIP ANALYSE AND LEARN ABOUT THE LIVES AND PRINCIPLES FROM PPL WHO WERE GREAT ENTREPRENEURS! Eg Benjamin Franklin, Sam Walton, JD Rockefeller, etc ppl who have changed society!
    33:35
go back through history and analyze the people whose legacies still survive - that's signal and you'll find gems there!
    36:11
    Scott Adams
    36:29
90% of ppl never even reach their (fitness?) goals
    36:35
focus on systems as these are linked to your habits
    37:54
stay the course - showing up and putting in the work is the real "signal" when it comes to you reaching your goal NOT your plan, wishes, resolutions, who many people you tell, etc
    39:17
an analogy to understand signal vs noise
    41:40
mental models are never usually alone - they're usually interlinked and working together to create an interesting phenomenon
    43:05
    high agency
    44:03
never outsource your locus of control - you control your mental state and beliefs - reminds me of stoicism a little
    46:10
high agency behavior is the moost important value if you want to have an impact!
    47:28
omds I LOVE THIS! This is facts! (Will make for a great YT series tbh)
    48:08
asymmetry - Nassim Taleb talks about it as well I think (black swans?)
    48:52
    factsss
    50:04
2nd and 3rd order thinking - again reminds me of Sam Ovens video where he talks about this
    51:08
good point here! Something you would see as a simple straightforward thing can have drastic effects on you in the future!
    51:16
What gives you the most return in the 1st order you pay in the 2nd and 3rd and what you pay short term in the 1st order you reap the rewards 2nd and 3rd (kinda like how Naval talks about how most self-improvement can be broken down into choosing long term over the short term)

    52:22
I really wonder - were cavemen ever lazy? Or perhaps it depended on the resources they had available? Or was laziness not even a thing as it would directly lead to a decrease in survival?
    52:44
it's easier to spot mistakes in other people than it is in yourself
    52:50
be friends with people who want the best for you and treat yourself like someone you have the task of helping
    53:43
    The Buffet-Franklin super stack:
this is a great activity to do if you want to figure out your values and the type of ppl you surround yourself with - think about your friends or ppl in your life - who would you invest 'x' (money/happiness/wisdom, etc) in? - and who would you short? ask yourself why? - This way can see what you value in others and hence what your values are
    55:14
    Benjamin Franklin's 13 virtues
    56:09
again mental models are just mental tools to use on your journey towards the desired situation - focus on the process > results and stay the course!
    56:47
the gaming industry is a great place to look at when analyzing what mental models are being used to understand/manipulate human psychology
    57:28
man, that's so interesting - life when it comes to worldly pursuits is basically just a video game - so what's the difference? Why are all high-level gamers not necessarily smashing it in life as well? What's the difference?
    58:30
damn ok, perhaps life is about setting clear goals and a clear process to follow? Limit choice to reduce decision fatigue and anxiety?
    58:42
how can you design your env so everything is simple and your process is defined? Does this go against human instinct? (I presume not, as high-level entrepreneurs usually live this way - or maybe it does, as high-level entrepreneurs are in the minority)
    58:51
video games also have set levels
    59:48
video games also have a strong identity whilst it's a bit more abstract in reality
    01:00:01
reminds me again of Sam Ovens - "design an avatar and imagine you're controlling yourself in 3rd person"
    01:00:35
whoever takes psychological principles and creates mental models from them and applies them to their own life will be very powerful! → are there ppl already doing this?
    01:00:49
    Quickfire round
    01:01:34
inputs and outputs - Sammy Kamkar
    01:01:49
embrace being weird - perhaps the way you think is the signal amongst noise
    01:02:14
great video by school of life as well - it comes down to creating your own community and connecting with others who think like yourself!
    01:02:53
choose honesty - acceptability will just dilute your potential
    01:03:20
    lool, love it!
    01:03:58
it's about what you drill every single day! Not about the acute actions you take like reading a book or watching a motivational video! - Focus on the process > results
    01:04:15
chase authenticity - embrace the way you think and go down that tunnel - usually what makes you unique can be sculpted into your strength/moat
    01:04:40
    really interesting point
    01:05:00
Run monthly Ash conformity tests to instill personal agency and embracing authenticity
    01:06:06
interesting is conformity the necessary evil in order to have stability?
    01:06:07
    Map vs Terrain
    01:06:54
super interesting point - humans usually move away from pain rather than only always towards pleasure - how can you put yourself in an env where there's +ve stress? how can you design your env where the thought of pain from inaction > leaving your comfort zone?
    01:07:20
where would you be if you did all of the worst habits you have? Where would you be if you did all of the best habits you had - compare the two characters
    01:07:31
reminds me of James Clear when he talks about improving 1% each day leads to around a 33x improvement after a year
    01:07:39
    map vs terrain
    01:07:58
****advice George would give to his 20-year-old self
    01:08:22
the closer you can get to reality the better
    01:09:42
    great point
    01:09:55
yep, that's my current issue I'm trying to work against - being a plan addict!
    01:10:21
Green number fallacy and Planck knowledge
    01:11:49
the difference between chauffeur knowledge and actual Planck knowledge - do you have skin in the game? What's your P&L?
    01:11:50
a lot of information and content you see on social media is pretty much regurgitation of someone else - try to find the real signals/ppl with skin in the game and learn from the source!
    01:14:57
balance is key! you cannot live in the theoretical over reality!

32:00 - If I am trusting content based on how well it's survived than anything groundbreaking wouldn't have been discovered? For instance, because earth was thought to be flat, and then the new theory of earth being round came in, everyone should not have trusted the new theory because at that point it's a day old. If this content of earth being round wouldn't have been consumed then we wouldn't have come to where we are....

    • @ChrisWillx
      @ChrisWillx  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It’s a rule which is extensive not exhaustive. Focus on classics which stand the test of time, not novelty. For every correct new theory of the round earth there’s 10,000 incorrect ones about something else. Time is a filter.

Great conversations here. great video, only thing I would have to add as a useless commenter is the bit on political campaign prowess. I suppose you can personally hold opinions on candidates and their persuasion abilities, but to say that is the reason they won is not really true in my opinion. There is too much circumstantial evidence that would imply that most, if not all campaigns on the national stage are decided before they begin.
But again, great vid. thanks for upload.
