SOSV's Startup Development Programs

SOSV’s HAX is a startup development program focused on automation and robotics, connectivity and IoT, and chemical engineering, with application across many categories, including climate tech, health tech and consumer. ‪@HAX_co‬ provides $250,000 in pre-seed funding, with more capital available for later rounds. SOSV general partner Cyril Ebersweiler founded HAX in Shenzhen in 2012.
In 2022, HAX opened a facility in Newark, NJ, as part of a $25 million, five-year grant from New Jersey to bring HAX’s program to the state in collaboration with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA). The program also has operations in San Francisco, Tokyo, Shenzhen, and Pune, India. SOSV General Partners Duncan Turner and Ebersweiler oversee HAX.

is designed for scientists and others who want to “save lives and save the planet,” and the program supports companies working across many categories, including agriculture and food tech, materials, therapeutics, diagnostics and more. IndieBio provides $250,000-$525,000 in pre-seed funding, with more capital in subsequent funding rounds. Bill Liao and Arvind Gupta launched IndieBio in 2014 in Cork (Ireland) and San Francisco.
In October 2023, IndieBio SF opened a new headquarters at the American Industrial Center (AIC) on 3rd Street in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood. The office has BSL1 and BSL2 labs as well as chemistry and food labs plus a collaborative office space with 60 desks, 18 conference rooms and an event area.
In 2020, IndieBio NY launched with $25 million in backing from Empire State Development and The Partnership for New York City. In December 2022, IndieBio NY opened its new headquarters at 7 Penn Plaza-a 25,000-square-foot office engineered to foster innovation and community in the New York deep tech ecosystem. The space includes multi-disciplinary BSL1 and BSL2 wet labs and a 140-person capacity event space.
