  • Camping in Zimbabwe - finally getting to visit Mana Pools National Park after such a wait - our campsite review of Nyamepi Main Camp.
    Camping right on the banks of the Zambezi River, truly unfenced, with big game walking right past your tent, and lion roaring very nearby ... an incredible experience.

    Mana pools is ‘Gods private garden’. Absolutely my favourite place on earth. We loved no electricity, no phones (at last visit) and best still, No tv!
    We have camped and stayed in the lodges. Either way, bring everything you could possibly need with you.
    ❤️ Mana Pools. ❤️🇿🇼

      Definitely a winner! I hope they get the bathroom facilities sorted out. The other major Zim Parks have improved a lot lately. Mana Pools is amazing.

    There is a store that is run by the the ZNP, near the workshops at Nyamepi, Covid could’ve changed that.

      They didn't mention it. Maybe we missed it, but if so then it wasn’t obvious 🤔

    Great video and I like that you provide info on access to the site and road conditions. Interesting how the prices vary based on where you try & when. Shame about the ablutions but I guess if you're prepared for this 'off grid' type of camping you'll be prepared with your own water, shower, etc. I'd be interested to know how friendly and helpful the national parks staff are, as I've witnessed a couple of bad experiences in KNP with staff/international guests, so would be interested to know how you were treated as a SADC tourist in Zim.

      We had good experiences with Zim Parks staff all round. Very friendly, efficient, and welcoming. They really are on a drive to improve tourism. It's quite a change from a few years ago in general. With the exception of the Beitbridge border crossing and one bad experience at a police road block, we found everyone to be very welcoming and helpful. Just got back from another trip across the Beitbridge border, the Zim side has been upgraded. Staff were very helpful but the touts and lack of clear processes, although improved, is still quite trying.
      Mana is lagging behind the other major parks in respect of upgrades/refurbishments. I really hope they get it sorted, I think it should be one of the country's biggest attractions. We will definitely go back there.
      Thanks for the positive feedback on yhe video!

    • @TravelGigolo

      We had no lack of firewood. Notably though there weren't many campers. It's cut and stacked at reception. All mopani.

    Sounds like some parks in So Texas: hot, humid, alligators, venomous snakes, mischievous raccoons, wild hogs, and mosquitoes that can carry you away. Our heat right now is very close to yours.

    You obviously never had to patrol the Zambezi if you won’t drink the water.

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only patrolling I've done is with a fishing rod in one hand and a beer in the other. Met a farmer there once who said the water quality is surprisingly good.

    Don't camp under the sausage tree it will flatten your tent and potentially kill someone.

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would be unpleasant to have a sausage fall on one's head.
