Caleb is such an outwardly serious character that I think Liam loves every opportunity to do something silly and out-of-character (eg every time he polymorph's himself).

Tal gets very tense during combats, and trying to plan what you're going to do as a spellcaster in complex situations that are constantly changing can be very stressful.
BEST MOMENT IN CRIT ROLE. The amount of chances that move could have taken, and the BEAUTIFUL moment it became makes this all the greater. There were literally dozens of things that could have happened with that d100 and he landed on the ONE that made him a sheep. L.E.G.E.N.D.
Like mentioned, casting a high enough level spell requires them to roll a d20, the roll determines if the wild magic happens. Then, if it does, they roll a d100/d10 & percentile and use what i'm assuming is the chart for the sorcerer's wild magic. Since they've descended in to Aeor, this effect has made Fjord bald, and this very same battle, shrunk an already diminutive Veth and gave us Calamb
Caleb is a transmutation wizard Eiselcross and Aeor have a wild magic area effect, which is stronger in Aeor itself. It’s like Gnomengarde in Dragon of Icespire Peak but way more chaotic.

Well, the effect of 81 is that your size shrinks by one, this happened to Veth a Lil before Caleb's transformation. Travis asked Sam what he rolled to become tiny Veth, which Sam answered to be 81. Liam said 87, and the effect of 87 is that of being polymorphed into a sheep. Which would've happened before when Caleb nearly punched the Robot Thingy (forgot it's name) into a sheep had it not been immune to being polymorphed. But, if you want to believe it's scripted that's fine, we'll just enjoy it as it is

He clearly said 87 but the script was for 81... so they tried to make noise and cover it in order to impose 81 (polymorph) ...
