- In which Caleb and the Mighty Nein try to retrieve a necrotic gem from a pillar in the middle of the frozen wastes. Hilarity Ensues.

It's my personal head canon that whenever the Nein stop and do stuff like this (the frost worm fight, sledding, etc.), Lucien and the rest of the Tomb Takers are watching from a distance and thinking, "What the fuck are they doing?"
To be fair, I doubt Lucien would treat them with even half the respect if he saw this stuff lol.

Lowkey is caleb ever gets his hands on a wish spell at some point and isnt facing immediate doom I can see him pettily returning to that pillar for his revenge.
That would be a horrific waste of that spell and I'd have nothing but the utmost respect for it.

I also love the idea of using it to teleport that pillar into the middle of an enemy camp
though he would probably use it to revive his parents instead.
ah yes, the tried and true Wizard's Flowchart: if it fails, then I cast the spell wrong. if it fails again, I'm not casting the right spell. if it fails one more time, don't waste any more spell slots on it, it's obviously nothing important.
Wizards are the most intelligent class, if we say it's not important just go with it. It has nothing to do with pride or anything....

Caleb's ex's (the way Caleb has been talking about all three of them lately) watching him is just the best I just want to know if he was this stubborn in their schooling.
God-damned man, I was trying to avoid spoilers and this was the main comment in the video.

I would've loved the failed 6th level dispel magic and a disgruntled Caleb telling the gem that he "killed Vokodo" to have been included in this.

This was great! The frame of fjords face with the “50” next to it was extra great!
Was I the only one who heard "lets be safe about this and get back about 50 ft" and immediately said "you meant SEVENTY feet, RIGHT? .... RIGHT?!"

I love the little "extras" (Dagon's surprised eyes, Jester's 80 feet, Fjord's "Let's go!!"), they really multiply the funny of this scene. Great job!!!

That gem had to have a DC of 30+ to yank it out. A nat 20 for Caleb was what he needed to get per Matt’s rules of nat 20 law.

Determined yet petty Caleb is so fun, despite how rare it is, and you got that across super well.
This is one of my favorite moments. Especially when we see Caleb’s frustration and the serious dangers of places like the folding halls of Halas.
This is the best animatic of this scene.
You forgot the best part! When they walk away and Caleb hisses “I killed Vokohdo!”

Oh my god, the second blast yeeting Caleb the fuck away just made me choke laughing!! And the throwing away the jacket shot was great 😄😄 fantastic animation!!
The animation was so good I mean even though it was stop motion, it still had a fluid expression. the fact that it wasn't fluid animation didn't seem to bother me, my mind filled in the gaps, it felt fluid, and had dynamic expressions.
Hi! If you're interested this is called an Animatic. It's like a stepping stone in the animation process in which you draw key frames for a scene, often including things like motion direction lines and transition notes so that the team drawing the in-betweens (literally the frames between keys) can fill in and make it look like one fluid motion rather than a collection of still images.

Idk what it is about Caleb's misfortune that is so funny to me, but especially the shot of him faceplanting in the snow b4 getting absolutely tossed by the shock wave has me in stitches XD

Man, I've missed so many episodes lately. When did the Mighty Nein put Santa in a wheelchair?
When they took a tour of his workshop. They knocked a pile of lumber onto him and set off a reindeer stampede that nearly took him out. Thankfully, he's a demi-god, so he's just crippled as he leads them through the frozen North. Not so sure they should be expecting any new toys in their stockings for a while, though.

The details you put into this - Dagen off in the distance, the book harness and arm scars on Caleb - were amazing; however, that you actually drew an accurate cat mint plant blew me away!!!!!

Oh there was. It just didn't help the whole group rolled terribly or were off a by a bit. It had a high dc.

I check for animations of moments I find funny when I get to them. I dont always find them. I just got to this part and was not disappointed. Very well done.

This is my favourite critical role animatic, I keep coming back to watch it again and again.
I cannot wait for the campaign wrap up where we can finally find out 1: what gem was and 2: What it would've taken to get it out.
The best part of this is RIGHT after when he just turns around and double flips it off and is like "I killed Vokodo!"
Maybe im just a bigger problem child but.... identify to see full effects, or just use “bigbys hand” from 65+ft for a full minute. It cant be stuck if its attached to gravel. It would have made a great assassination weapon for groups of underlings.
4 year DM here and 5 year wizard main extra time using bigbys hand wouldnt have done anything. Identify would reqire them to touch it and they sense necromancy from the gem before trying all the shit you see in this animation. So they didnt want to touch it I imagine. Your not a bigger problem child just thinking of other options.

I was thinking identify would be an option for the DM to ether explain the extent of the power (i.e after 5 fails the range increase to 75ft, it can only activate 30 times a day, ex) or otherwise hint to danger.
And with a str of +8 you wouldnt give it a chance to damage? Even if the dc is 35? What of using the claws to try and dig it out? Idk what youd do with an unearthed necromantic obelisk, but id be interested to findout.

A few months into campaign three CR announces another live event (This will be long after we're all vaccinated so there will definitely be live events again):
The Search for Caleb: Long after everyone else has settled into their happily ever after, Caleb launched an expedition to Aeor to get that fucking rock once and for all, only one badly wounded survivor barely made it back to Balenpost
Matt mentioned that there were runic lines going away from the gem. That was almost certainly how you disarmed the gem or lowered the DC
