Thanks for showing the complete install. I just had one installed on my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 6.7 bed. I'm have trouble with the cover closing all the way. I noticed in your video that after a couple of times the cover closed all the way. I've had the cover on now for 5 days and I still have to pull it about 1-2 inches to get it to close all the way. Also I hear a loud clunking sound at about halfway coming out and going in. Is this normal? Retrax says it might take 2-3 weeks before it will close all the way. That doesn't seem right to me. Great videos. Also if I loose power to my truck is there anyway of getting the cover to open? I haven't had it in the rain very much but what little I had seem to keep most of the water out.
Congrats on the cover, park it so the sun heats it up and you run it open and closed will help. I agree 3 weeks seems extreme, one thing to check is to make sure the cover is installed square. If it’s not it can bind up and clunk or not have enough power to close. As for no power, not sure as its made to lock in place, so I think you are out of luck with no power, but you can open the tailgate. Good luck!
@@R20Motorsports Thanks for the advice. I've been opening and close it as much as I can 10-20 times a day. It's been raining a lot so I'm not getting much heat on it. I keep the truck in the garage at night. I'm going to try to keep opening and closing for another 2 weeks. I will post if there's any change. I really like the cover. It goes great with my truck, but I'm thinking there's something wrong with the cover. The installs told me something wasn't right, but Retrax won't exchange it out.
@@R20Motorsports I'm still trying to get it to the right spot. I like how it looks and I like that I can add Yakima racks to it. Day 6 fingers crossed I keep opening and closing it, but still about 1 inch short of reaching the tailgate.
This is helpful. I had one on my Raptor and the power and drain tube went thru the rubber knock out up front. I was concerned about having to drill a hole. Nice to see that isn’t required. How hard was it to fish the wire out the side? Also, where did you put the drain hose?
Bill its a pretty easy install, no drilling. You can fish the wiring through the bed pocket, not too hard. I went from back to front, if you want to go front to back you need to use a fish wire, but not hard. For the drains there are openings on the bed sides that I just ran them to. I did my raptor as well and did the same, punctured the rubber cover. On the Ram the holes are there too. Good luck!
Thanks for watching. I would guess you could control the cover with a swtich, but you’d have to run wires from in the cover itself as there are only power wires to run since the cover is remote controlled. I found it easier to just use the homelink. Good luck!
This is my 4th retrax with power, my buddy has a standard one and it works well, but its nice to just hit the button. If you check out my tips video (link at the end) you will see how I mount the remotes etc to make it work super easy. Good luck! th-cam.com/video/3Mh9PEmy014/w-d-xo.html
How do u adjust it if it comes too far out when closing it? Mine goes a bit over the tailgate and I have to climb on my tier to push it down so I can roll it back open
First I would make sure that its pushed all the way toward the cab. If it is, then it might just take some time to break in. It overlaps the top of the tailgate because there is a seal there. Also, they suggest leaving it out in the sun for the first week or so as sometimes they won’t retract without going through a few heat cycles.
@@R20Motorsports im installing one tomorrow that has a Rambar already on it. Thank you for this video ill report back if its possible to have the bedcover and rambar. Looks like I'll have to remove it then reinstall it after the bed cover
I think it depends on how you use the truck. If you put long large stuff in the bed a lot, the flip makes more sense because you don’t have roll up front. For me, anything long is usually low and it slides under the roll. Also the Retrax is infinitely adjustable, so you can close it on bulky items to keep them from moving. Check out my tip video to see this: th-cam.com/video/3Mh9PEmy014/w-d-xo.html Either way I’m sure will be good, better than an no cover at all!
Hello, I want to order this online, but i am confused what model to choose for the TRX “ 1500 new body style “ or the “ 1500 classic “ . Can you help me please
Sure, I can help, you want power or manual opening? And do you want the style that is flush like mine, or where you can attach racks for things like bikes, snow boards and skis to sit above the cover?
@@R20Motorsports Thank you for your kind reply, I have the same vehicle as you do, i am looking for the flush model like yours, as well as the power bed cover.
@@fatassable sorry Randy, I don’t sell these, just installed on my truck, the Retrax website is pretty easy to use, just select the XR version and Ram 1500 with the short bed and no ram box. Good luck
Its about 12X12 and I believe all the cannisters are the same size. You have about 6-10” of clearance off the floor of the bed, so you can use the full length on the floor of the bed.
I’ve had 4 of these with no issues. I guess if you opening and closing it 10 times a day there’s a risk, but for my use, its the best option. Thaks for watching.
Thanks. Just installed the non powered version. This video helped.

Ya I did as well, I think an electric retrax is a mistake, motor, wiring, would be an issue later

Hi. Does this fit with a ram bar on it?
I have seen folks online install with the rambar but I don’t have one, so I have not seen it installed directly. Check the TRX forum for more info.

I have seen on the forum that folks are installing with the rambar, but some modification may be required to get them to fit together.
