Hi Alex. Thanks so much for the shout-out for my "Nicholas Raven" novel! I really appreciate your kindness. And I'll be honored to be on your self-published bookshelf, but I'm glad you're only booting the candle off and not another book (ha ha). Thanks again! Oh, and you pronounced my last name perfectly. Take care.

The way you described the magic in Jade City makes me even more excited to start it. I've got a copy on my Kindle that's just been waiting for me to get through my backlog of books.

    Very interesting range of books!
Don't exactly remember what I read in July but some recent reads:
    Fantasy
    1) The Ladies of Grace Adieu by Susanna Clarke
    2) Books 1 and 2 of The Five Warrior Angel Series by Brian Lee Durfee
    SF
Earthseed duology by Octavia E. Butler
    Non-SFF
    1) 11/22/63 by Stephen King (my first attempt to read a Stephen King novel - it was good but I felt there were loopholes and it wasn't as much about key historical events as daily life in late 50s/early 60s suburban USA so some mismatched expectations there)
    2) Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman (very well-written novel from first person 'unique' POV - to say more would be spoiling!)
    3) The Likeness by Tana French (mystery - good, well-written but too similar to a book I love and the resolution was underwhelming for me)
    4) Mystic River by Dennis Lehane (mystery- this was extremely well-written and the ending was very powerful - a very good read).
Currently trying Red Sister by Mark Lawrence. If that is a DNF, I want to give Lonesome Dove a try. Already failed at reading Blood Meridian by McCarthy though, fingers crossed for this one.

    • @alexnieves
      @alexnieves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hopefully you don't have to DNF anything and they all end up being good reads.

In July I read too much lol, but I was already quite a way through some of them by the start of the month:
    *Fantasy*
    Black Company - Glen Cook
Four Revelations - R Scott Bakker (short story)
Long Price Quartet 1: Shadow in Summer
    *Historical-Fiction*
    Bernard Cornwell's Grail Quest Trilogy
    - Huge miss for me, mostly cuz of Book 3. I know he wrote a 4th book but I've 0 interest.
Gates of Fire - Steven Pressfield
    - This was the pick me up I needed after Grail Quest and its become one of my favourite books.
    *Horror*
I Am Legend - Richard Matheson
    - So good I read it in 1 sitting.
Song of Kali - Dan Simmons
    *Sci-Fi*
    Ogres - Adrian Tchaikovsky (novella)
    - This might be my favourite novella I've ever read.
One Day All This Will Be Yours
    - Adrian Tchaikovsky (novella)
    - Pretty fun take on time-travel.

Great video Alex! Awesome to hear you enjoyed Foundation! I read it a few years back and I also enjoyed it way more than I expected…Asimov’s ideas have always impressed me so much and because of that I want to check out his Robot novels! Man, The Last Kingdom was such a phenomenal show I loved everything about that….read the first 5 or 6 years ago when the show first aired and was obsessed with those books! Definitely need to go back and continue the series!

I've been meaning to read Foundation but i don't often get the urge to read more Asimov tho I'll probably continue on in the I Robot series first. Ironically I prefer PKD's writing.
I recommend Warlord Chronicles, knowing that you're a Gwynne fan I'd be surprised if you didn't at least like it. That's still my favourite Cornwell series. I have to get back to Last Kingdom, I think I'm finally over my viking fatigue.
