    I finally started The Dark Tower! I enjoyed The Gunslinger, especially the ending and I’m looking forward to The Drawing of the Three next month. I enjoyed both Sun Eater releases this year, but Ashes of Man was also my favourite. It left me floored!

    Happy reading Alex- sorry I'm a tad late to viewing the video. I'm planning on reading The Green Bone Saga this year so I'm late to the party as well.

    I have Sun Eater ready to go somewhere in the next couple of months and ooooh my god I am so excited. Also, HECK YES for Greenbone!! Have you read the novella yet? That one almost caused me to drop everything and jump straight into a reread of the series, I just adore that world and those characters!
    Great list, here's to finding many more new faves in 2023!!

    Great video, Alex! If you liked Greenbone, I recommend checking out War for the Rose Throne by Peter McLean, starting with Priest of Bones. It was my most surprising book/series and is my number two favourite of the year. It feels like Peaky Blinders meets The Godfather. I also really liked the narration and read immersively.

    🎶 “This man needs to be stopped when he goes to write another song.” 😆 I called that one out as you said, “the only thing I don’t necessarily love about Tolkien.” Songs are sections to be skipped straight past for me, always have been! I was moved by the ending of “The Green Bone Saga” which I read in the first few months of the year, one book after the other. What a great series.

      Same! Diehard Tolkien fan since elementary school (which was decades ago) but the songs I could do without. Maybe if I knew the melody or something but it was weird to read them and have no idea what they were supposed to sound like.

    Wizard and Glass is my favorite of the whole series.
    Tom Bombadil was on crack confirmed?! And Tolkien's obsession with writing songs and poems is out of control. One day they will find his lost treasure trove of 5000.pages of discarded LOTR songs

      Crack, shrooms, LSD take your pick. Bombadil is a maniac.
      You joke about them finding songs but just wait until we get a hardcover edition of The Songs of Middle Earth, edited by Christopher Tolkien.

    I’m pretty sure you just spoiled the new Suneater book. I’m in the middle of reading it and now I know she dies. Who else could you be talking about since we both know what happened In Kingdoms of Death and she’s the only one left.

    • @alexnieves
      @alexnieves  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean I never said anything specific, but also considering Hadrian spoils the end of the series at the beginning of EoS I'm not really sure much can be spoiled. There's plenty of people that are left that can die. :)

    • @kevins1005
      @kevins1005 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      “Kingdoms of death had more loss but I felt the death in here was more impactful for me …..where does Hadrian go from here “. You might as well just said Valka dies. And no …..there’s not many people close to him left to die , unless he happens to make shit load of friends in this book. You spoiled the book for me. I don’t recall Hadrian telling us in the first book that the love of his life dies. Maybe I’m wrong , maybe this doesn’t happen, but who the hell else could you be talking about.

      @@alexnieves No you're fine - you mentioned the lobsters in the one Dark Tower book and immediately I pictured the dude on the beach and the things he called "lobstrosities" that were after him - at least I think that's what they were called; I haven't read that book in at least 2 decades. It's a testament to King's writing though that all I heard was you mentioning the lobsters and my mind took me right back there to that scene on the beach even after all that time.
