To me, there was something special about the Lemure's seeing you off with a Garlean salute. Something about it really drove home the fact that Garlemald wasent built upon malice and the intention to sow war and strife. It only ended up that way because that's what Emet-selch turned it into once he hijacked Solus. Garlemald was built upon ideals of survival through unity and pride in who they were, despite how the world treated them. Maybe after Endwalker they can finally get back to that...
I expect us to see a lot of changes in Garlemald in patch 6.1 going forward. There's so much we don't know about the people and their culture that they would be crazy to not show us more.
I picked up Reaper while I was still doing more Stormblood content and it made Endwalker so much more relatable. Also I like the no-nonsense way you present the lore, subscription locked.
Yeah this job quest has taught us a few things about the Garleans especially with how their hatred for other races was more than likely present long before Solus or more specifically Emet-Selch took control. It also shows that this conflict is very Grey regardless of the forces involved.
Most conflicts are grey which makes for better storytelling. It's always better when you can relate to your enemies and find out that you're not all that different from one another. The Garleans have done some shady stuff to other people, but in some ways the Eorzeans have done similar things to people they thought were savage too like the different beast tribes.
@@ChroniclerofLore And it shows how easily one can get lost in the pursuit of a goal. The Garleans wanted to take their ancestral home back but they became lost in their zeal and wanted more treating the descendants of those who took their original homeland as slaves.
Exactly. Determination and motivation can turn into fanaticism in the blink of an eye, and the people who were originally fighting for a just cause could turn into tyrants. Makes the statement "you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain" even more true.
Considering Zenos has a sus voidsent...there's so much more to see from him and that thing he made a goddamn deal with. It's forbidden to deal with voidsents. I wonder how this will play out.
@@ChroniclerofLore Yes! Its design is so curious too. Is creepy. I would love to ask you something else but I have no idea if you have completed Endwalker. I have and there's something I wish to ask but don't want it to be like a spoiler or anything.
Does the voidsent really transfer the aether back to its body in the void? That seems to not make much sense, considering a certain character that says "and thus I am returned (to the void)" when their bonded reaper dies.
I honestly think they changed things up with that particular person because the Reaper story says that you're not actually bringing the voidsent fully to the Source you're just sending it aether while it sends you power. For the character you're talking about they made it like the avatar was actually the whole voidsent and not just a conduit for power. I don't think they had planned that part of the story when they 1st introduced the Reaper job.
Thanks for making this. No matter how hard I try, it's hard for me to absorb the story when I just have to read it. I wish these job quests were voice acted. This video is a great alternative though. At least now I understand the stuff that I skimmed through.
You're welcome 😊. It would be really nice if they could add a bit of voice acting to some of the side quests. That would likely help a lot of people out
It's kind funny that A VOIDSENT tried to threatening us and thought we were his prey. While we had beat the shit out of Ascians, gods, primals. I imagined my character would react to that voidsent like "haha, cute".
I would say that, but we've seen voidsent as powerful as things like Diabolos and the Cloud of Darkness that are above us in power. Those upper tier Ascians haven't been killed by the WoL's power alone. For the unsindered it was a combination of all of the light of the first mixed with white auracite or the Crystal Tower. For Nidhogg we only stood a chance because another of the first brood let us use the power of his eye. We needed mcguffin to take down Diabolos at his full power and we just ran away and let the Cloud of Darkness get sealed away because we couldn't destroy it. The WoL is strong, but there are actually quite a few things that can kill us.
@@ChroniclerofLore Fair point. But at the same time we were shot by a beam of light, gathered by the whole planet, into another galaxy by Eden and we survived. Pretty sure that voidsent isn’t that powerful :P

I can certainly understand your point. What should have been done is the quest should have ended at level 81 and shown the Warrior of Light unlocking the level 80 skill enshroud by drawing too much power from her own avatar to overcome Orcus and it should have ended with you regaining control but knowing that 1 mistake could turn you into the enemy you just defeated.
@@ChroniclerofLore true but didn't dark knight kinda of already do that. Now iam not saying that it wouldn't be cool in fact when reaper storyline is continued we may get just that.
Yeeeeah I don't agree with the whole 'The WoL was outmatched' thing at all. The WoL was clearly pissing off the voidscent because it wasn't getting the result it wanted by overpowering the WoL and dealing significant/meaningful damage to us. You can't convince me that a character that was so weak and helpless that the voidscent was torturing her within the inch of her life was also the "saving grace" the warrior of light needed to tip the scales of the battle and bring the voidscent to its knees. No evidence suggesting this was a losing battle except headcanon.
Actually I think we will see some work done on the void after the void quest from Shadowbringers mentioned fixing it. This quest bringing a little more lore to the methods of working with voidsent actually might help them repair the 13th shard.
I know you made this comment 3 years ago, but I just wanted to add that Orcus is not originally the name of a D&D character. It's actually a god from real ancient Roman mythology. In Roman myth, Orcus was considered the god who punished oath breakers and evildoers in the underworld. Eventually he became equated to Hades/Pluto.
I think our reaper avatar looks meh because we didn't bond with it as much as Orcus or Zenos, our bonding was like "oh, that one likes your soul, go kill ants" we never tried to increase our bond with it. Wonder if it's our 13th shard soul... Can't wait for our visit in the 13th...
That's very true, and while I liked the Reaper story, the Red Mage story is better. Probably because they took more time to flesh it out. It's a shame that they don't plan on continuing it, at least no time soon.
Such a lost opportunity with this job. Could’ve told the story of finding and growing a bond with your voidsent, the first time you enshroud should’ve been a massive moment, etc. also should’ve been much darker. Instead it feels like a story someone threw together in a day. Super disappointing
I was expecting there to be a whole arc about the voidsent you bonded with trying to take control of your body and for you to dominate it to regain control. We didn't even really learn much about voidsent in the story at all. There were a lot of missed opportunities with this.
@@ChroniclerofLore they’re basically just mercenaries. As a fan of the Voidsent, I was super excited when this job was announced. The job itself is fun, but this was the moment to let us get some information about the most prominent group of monsters who seem to have their own hierarchy on the 13th shard and everything. Yet we didn't get anything about any of that. This was a serious missed opportunity.
Honestly depends on which type of immortality I’m given. Is it biological immortality like the krogan from mass effect because at least its not that bad I can still technically die to diseases and wounds. But if we’re talking full on immortality where I can still feel the pain from wounds and such, then yeah no thanks I’d prefer to die than to basically become a necron (basically immortal robotic beings from Warhammer 40k)
I haven't pick up the job yet but from seeing how people play it, it looks like when dark knight decided to pick up a scythe. And the fact it is a maiming class it will be sharing gear with dragoon, I dunno how the glamour situation will go since the style between those two jobs are completely different. Dragoon is more of a knight-ly style with breastplate and metal armor while reaper is more of a lightwear gear type of job. I personally think the scouting gear would suit reaper better than maiming gear.
I was thinking either scouting or slaying gear because, you're right, the Reaper does seem more like a job that would wear light weight gear. The play style reminds me of a Gunbreaker if it became a dps.
@@ChroniclerofLore I don't know what reaper's rotations look like but if you say it's like gunbreaker I think I get the picture. must be fun to play since gunbreaker rotations and combos are so satisfying and very fast paced.
