    PS5 being slower to load kinda makes no sense. The Xbox Series X not being able to hold a steady 60 in performance mode also makes no sense. Rockstar needs to work on optimization more.

      It does when you realize having a faster SSD or a slightly faster GPU doesn't linearly equate to better performance or loading. GTA5 is massive and built on very old tech by comparison. Considering that 80% of the code is probably still common among all versions, the picture becomes quite obvious. There's far more going on under the hood then a fast SSD or fast GPU, especially when the game is 10 years old lol

      It seems they basically changed fuck all and it looks a re-skin of the PS4 version which means the kraken decompression tech made specifically for fast af load times isn't being used.

      Tbh we don't need an RDR 2 upgrade. It's still great, at least on the Xbox. The Ps4 Pro version is not that great

      Same here. It would be interesting, however the game looks dated even on PS5 so while the differences would be very noticeable it's not like the game was remade with new assets. There's only so much the game's looks can improve without just remaking it from scratch.

      I still prefer the colors on PS3 and Xbox 360. Every other platform has a blue filter and generally lower contrast look.

      as someone who went into pc gaming in 2015 and watch videos of the ps3 version i can see the lag with my naked eye, crazy to think at the time alls i had was the ps3 version at launch and dint notice it and now i look back and understand how hard8times feels when he ranted about having a hard time enjoying gta v on consoles (look up the video he was heated) its like going from regular off brand audio equipment to anything made from sennheiser when you go from ps3/4 to ps5/pc. im pretty sure even gta 4 ran a bit more fluid than gta v if you look at the footage.

      Just a side project for Rockstar, unfortunately. They’re not concerned because it’s just another cash grab and they probably had a certain time budget to do the best they could.

      Because all Rockstar did was move the PC graphics settings sliders from medium to ultra. Set the resolution to 4K along with capping the frames to 60. They took what takes PC players literal seconds to adjust and slapped a price tag on it for consoles.

      RDR2 visuals are breathtaking and the game runs on both PS4 and XOne. They're not stable 30fps, but it shows that R* could've done more, but decided not to and just did this remaster for a couple of quick dollars (as if the billions that they've already got from GTAOnline weren't enough...)

    It's a strange port, the more I play of it. It really seems like these consoles should be able to hold a solid 60 at settings higher than Fidelity, if they had done more optimization. My biggest issue, though, is the uneven texture resolutions. A lot of posters and signs look horrendous up close, while the texture next to them might look crisp and beautiful. Feels unfinished. For the most part though, it's an excellent version of the game, it just could have been much more, given R*'s resources.

      30 fps at 4k is a joke, but that seems to be the trend for these "all new powerful consoles" lol. At least Rockstar figured out what I've been saying forever "1440p with raytracing could work well with these systems", but today's spoiled gamers are too obsessed with 4k..

      @@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 Yeah, native 4K is wasted on my TV anyway, so I'm happy with 1440p + RT in any PS5 game that offers those settings. I'm from the era of sub-640x480 resolutions though, so at the end of the day, fun is all that really matters to me, lol.

    I love how DF just became the place I come for recommended graphic modes! In this day in age, where almost all games presents us with many choices and little information about them, it makes me feel good, certain and informed about my picks!!

      Years ago I enjoyed messing with graphics settings in games to see precisely what they did, but graphics settings have become so (thankfully) detailed these days that doing this would take hours that would be better spent enjoying the game. This applies more to PC releases of course.

      It would not fair well. Ps3 and xbox 360 version looks like garbage. Many texture are low res and missing many details, especially foliage. It just looks bad and there is no AA and its only 720p. If you compare to even ps4 version, it looks really outdated

      Rockstar can only make one big game per gen, They made RDR2, their games are not as small as old GTA games, they're much more complexe and detailed.

    I have to admit, I don't know how difficult/impossible a task it would be but, it's a shame the physics engine has zero upgrades to bring it back in line with RDR2 or GTA IV.

    Back when I was 12 and I watched Digital Foundry comparisons of GTA 5 on Xbox 360 and PS3, I couldn’t even imagine that I would do this again in 2022, when I’m 21. Rockstar makes this life feel like a spiral.

      26 now. GTA5 released so long ago that we're not quite the same people anymore (if you were young). I suppose getting multiple GTA's in my teenage years was cool, but on the flip side, I went through most of my 20s without a new GTA which makes me feel older than I am (it's affected my perception of time, haha)... and GTA6 probably won't release until my late 20s/early 30s.
      ... And what if GTA6 isn't good? 😟

    FYI, RDR2 runs at 4K/30 on the Xbox One X. You'd think with all the extra horsepower that a less demanding game like GTA 5 could run at a native 4K/60 on current gen.
    I understand that RT reflections do have a cost. But, you'd think that a standard 4K Performance mode could've easily been added. A "pin sharp" 4K/60 with regular shadows.
    You'd also think that a game that already uses TAAU could've found a way to implement RT reflections on some level. Insomniac have been leading the way with this combination.
    I think what we got is fine for $10. But, I truly believe with more effort this re-re-release could've been a real looker. And, if R* actually "Expanded" the map this could've been stellar.

      GTA is only one generation behind RDR2 and it came towards the end pushing the PS3 and 360 it's a city with a lot more going on than RDR2 so yeah that won't happen RDR2 looks better but that's about it

      You've also got to consider that games coded for getting the most out of limited hardware in the previous generation are necessarily effectively coded to take advantage of current consoles.

    The Performance RT mode is near flawless, IN STORY MODE. But exhibits some heavy framerate drops in the online mode. Some small drops in the nightclub but MAJOR drops during the Cayo Perico heist, low 40s high 30s. I would suggest switching to Performance whenever you play the heist because it isn't very pleasent. I think it has to do with foliage and lots of npcs on screen at once. Hopefully they fix this.

      It doesn't suprise me tbh knowing that on pc it also has quite the extra burden on performance while playing that heist in comparison to the normal map.

      @@mauricemaurits1717 It is because of Rockstar's vegetation, streaming, and script optimization while on Cayo Perico. Grass rendering will reduce the framerate dramatically because of how much is in the viewport. When near and in El Rubio's compound, the framerate will also drop dramatically because of the dense AI and script runtime for tracking compound game states and progression.

      @@kyledodson2992 well gta 4 always ran with an unlocked framerate even on xbox 360. So when you play it on the series S or X you atleast get 60fps. But the game has horrible post processing and filters over it that make it look really blurry.

    Why is it that texture filtering is often so low on consoles? On PC there is usually no performance difference between the available modes, except for 16x sometimes. But even then it's only like 1 or 2 FPS

    I’m surprised at the overall general sentiment reviewers are giving the next gen upgrade. This is a paid upgrade and the “enhancements” boil down to fairly weak improvements to shadows and some AA rendering technique trickery. I can’t understand how a 9 year old game can drop frames on modern hardware considering how weak of a visual upgrade this next gen release is.

    It's good that Alex and Tom mentioned a few notes/opinions for the DualSense implementation in their videos.
    Some DS effects are meh, but some are truly excellent. The subtlety of the acoustic signature can be outstanding.
    A good DualSense treatment needs intelligent programming and testing, so it's a hardware tech feature worth mentioning.

    I was playing last night and I did notice that pop in was really bad at times when driving through the mountains with Trevor. Much of the foliage in the mountains wouldn’t draw in until the car, at its highest speed, was right on top of it.

    All Rockstar did was move the PC graphics settings sliders from medium to ultra. Set the resolution to 4K and capped the frames to 60. They took what takes PC players literal seconds to adjust and slapped a price tag on it for consoles.

      It is still such a joy to hook up a trailer truck and just bat some cars off the highway into the ocean :) . That never gets old lol I love how there are now two types of cabs too . Both the cab over design and the bull nose trucks. I am sure on the xbox one there were no bull nose trailer trucks. So far i have found 4 different types of trailers you can hook up and the car carrier ones now have 4 or so cars on them too lol

    Playing this game on PS5 in first person with headphones on, it's still one of the most immersive open world games out there. The driving feels fantastic at 60fps and the dualsense features. Great game for 10 euros.

      I agree I had the PC Version but couldn't reach 60 fps constantly at high settings so this is the first time I can enjoy the story mode in 60 fps on PS5. Still kinda disappointed cause they could have made this game much more beautiful and add some real raytracing reflections to it but I guess they simply wanted to make some cash and not really improve the visuals...

    The only thing I have a real nitpick for in this new release is the adaptive triggers with cars. I feel like more could've been done there, but at least guns are fine. Sniper Rifles especially. Idk why but I like that satisfying feel of it resisting really hard and then when it fires, completely lets go as if you're feeling the kick of a rifle.
    Although I do wish PS5's SSD was used better. Load times being 4x faster than Series X in Elden Ring and now a few seconds longer is just odd to see. It's really weird how inconsistent games are with this super fast SSD, and I even have an external with a heatsink that exceeds the Console's internal one.

      Rockstar developed GTA5 for both consoles simultaneously, the Xbox version of ER is (my guess) likely just the PlayStation version modified after completion to run on the console. FromSoft has never made a good Xbox title, but that’s because they and Sony are both from Japan, hence the exclusives like Bloobdorne and Demon Souls.

      My guess is the PS5 architecture is I think a more refined version of the PS4, this consistency is ofc why BC is possible and most PS4 games benefit from the new hardware.
      Fromsoft ofc made Bloodborne which is exclusive to PS4 which means they have a LOT of knowledge on how the system works.
      With all that knowledge, it was likely really easy for them to learn the PS5 architecture quickly and take advantage. Which is probably the real reason why its load times are better on PS5 vs XSX.
      R* I can't recall having done a PS exclusive game, and lately with them being more of a corporate monopoly than being a no charity passion driven studio these days likely caused some laziness and low man power, thus just having a "good enough" release for the systems.

      Only in some third party games you'll see devs taking advantage of the adaptive triggers on ps5. It's not necessarily important to the game, it's more of a gimmick. It'll mostly be utilized properly on first party Sony games.

      @@dom4591 I'm aware of that but if they're gonna do it, might as well do it right. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart and a few other PS Exclusives show this can be more than just a lame gimmick.
      In a game like Dying Light 2, it's there to make you feel that weight of the weapons being used... but it's more of a nuisance when Aiden swings the very moment the game detects its use, negating the whole point of having adaptive triggers. They did nail it with archery though.
      As for Driving, I can't believe I'm saying this but Cyberpunk 2077 did this a lot better. It made me feel like I was applying pressure to the gas like a real car instead of just having mediocre resistance to control speed stages easier.
      Even Wreckfest did a good job with adaptive triggers, even to adjusting resistance based on speed. Like braking is more resistant the faster you're going.

    I've been enjoying my time with the PS5 version, though I did notice one oddity. For some reason, there are a few specific instances where the game has gotten incredibly aliased and jagged. The main two occurrences that stand out are when you're pushing the mobile home into the river with Trevor's car in one of his first missions and when you're controlling the crane at the dock in a later Trevor mission. This occurred when I was playing the performance RT mode, haven't had a chance to go back and test the others but just found it really odd.

      The engine/middleware iteration used for GTA 6 is a generation ahead of what we see in GTA 5, and it's a half-step ahead of RDR 2's renderer. Greater CPU / CU parallelism.
      60fps is on the table for GTA 6 on Series X + PS5.

    One odd thing I have discovered playing on Xbox series x is that reflections seem slightly sharper in the performance mode over the performance rt mode. The rt mode has really blurry reflection. Reflected signs that might be readable in performance become unreadable in performance rt. Strange since both are 1440p. Also another point on reflections the fidelity mode has some lighting and reflections that are completely gone in both performance modes. For example visit Ls customs near the airport at night and look at how to light reflects on the vehicle as you drive past that Street lamp near the oil tanker. Also while there go under any billboard in the area and you'll be able to see it reflected in the vehicles roof. Minor things really but just two things i've noticed.

      @@madezra64 nope. An RTX 3070 and a 5600x is not a high-end rig at all but I'm running this game at all Max settings using DLDSR at 3413x1920 resolution and my lowest FPS scenario is 70 plus FPS during intense alpha effects/foliage scenes while averaging over 100 FPS during general gameplay.
      I was expecting these machines to at least hit 4K 60 FPS or 1440p 120 FPS to justify them being called next gen. The RT is also a joke since you wouldn't notice those shadows without a video pointing out their existence. Where's the RT reflections, and RT Global Illumination? These are the visual improvements that actually gets noticed.

      @@madezra64 i have a gtx 1060 and i play at 144 fps most of the time and on most settings turned up, this port still has ps4 graphics settings and still cant do solid 60 fps.. if you think ps5 and xbox dont have the power to run this better than a gtx 1060 then idk what to say tbh

    Something I noticed - If I bring my cloud save from SX to SS and I have it set to Performance RT, I believe the SS (which doesn’t have performance RT) keeps RT active. And the FPS tanks from it lol

    I'm just gonna say it, this isn't good enough for something they worked on for allmost 2 years. Now, i had my expectations in check. That meaning i didn't expect anything really. But nothing here is impressive. The 20+ second loading to get into the game on this generation for a 9 year old game that FIRST released on PS3 and 360 isn't good. It's still slow. Being faster than the last version doesn't really make it fast. And again, it's all in the SSD as the PS4 version on PS5 loaded MUCH faster than on PS4. Hell, i'd even say i experienced loading that could match or even outperform this.
    Character switching isn't as super fast as you'd think. At best, it's a couple seconds faster than the PS4 version on PS5. But at worst, we're looking at the longest Character switching times on any version of the game. There have been several times were i had to restart the game just to get it to load faster. After playing for a while or putting it on standby, it can often lead to character switching taking more than half a minute. Again, that's not impressive.
    As for the framerate... The fact that the 30fps mode can drop at all is a joke. And the 60fps dropping as much as it does? I have a Laptop that is weaker than my PS5. And it can easily run GTAV at 120fps. with high settings. So Rockstar honestly made a minimal effort here. How this is considered by anyone to be acceptable after nearly 2 years in development... Well, that's beyond me. Lesser studios have done far better. Rockstar should have done better because they can do MUCH better. But this does not make me hopefull for GTA VI. Rockstar was once at the top of their game. No one could match them. GTAV holds up pretty darn well. But that's all thanks to the Rockstar of old. The work put in now is as low effort as it gets. If this is what they do with a ''remaster''... Well, i'm sorry. I can't expect much from GTA VI at this point.

      It has something to do with GPU bandwidth which works differently on consoles due to being APUs. At least that’s what I read somewhere, there has to be a reason why almost zero devs use 16x AF in their games

    8:10 makes zero sense nowadays to have any game release without 16X anisotropic filtering. It is one of the least expensive settings of them all, if I'm not mistaken.

    We've been playing GTA V on Consoles at 30FPS for almost ten years I think the 60FPS upgrade on consoles whether it's on Ray Tracing mode or not it is a big improvement I see no reason that someone really should go play the game on the fidelity mode I mean yeah the resolution is a locked 3840×2160p on the fidelity mode but what's the point when we have the 60FPS modes that they can maintain a smooth 60FPS at almost 99 percent of the time anyway this next generation GTA V console port in my opinion did impress me.

      I actually prefer fidelity mode. It looks sharper. I like the 60 fps but the blurry fake 4k bothers me so much. So annoying we cant have 4k 60fps

      @@axxion231 Yes despite having said that the PS5 and Xbox Series X are capable to do 4K 120FPS I really thought that maintaining 4K 60FPS should be a piece of cake for these consoles yeah I agree with you cause GTA V arrived at September of 2013 I mean why the PS5 that can hold 60FPS for Last of Us Part 2 at a 1440p resolution with those stunning graphics and textures cannot do a balanced 4K 60FPS on GTA V that doesn't add up it is just unacceptable.

    To those of you who haven't played GTA 5 before , this ones for you. But for those who have which is quite literally most of us , I suggest pickup Elden Ring or something else for your new console.These upgrades are fine if they were a free upgrade for existing customers on a previous platform and not for a price tag.     Is it just me, or the comparisons for new games and new ports in the last few months between XSX and PS5 are just too uneventful?
    I remember when XSX was getting 120FPS modes and 200px advantages at launch and it just...diminished as time went by?

      PS5 got those 120fps updates later, at least most of them. Reaspn why Series X got them first was the fact that PS4/Pro doesn't suppory 120hz output so to get 120fps on PS5 required native PS5 build of every one of those games.

    Looks like the Xbox is handling Ray Tracing better than PS5 probably due to having more ray tracing units while the PS5 is handling rasterization better due to having higher clock speed. The difference between Performance RT and Performance mode clearly shows that.

      @@DC3Refom we created most realistic explosions and performance mode etc. game is more optimized on rtx cards and if you are using gtx 1080 then you could trade it to rtx 3050 which does slightly better than gtx 1080 and little less then gtx 1080 ti

    There is one thing to note for gta online, both fidelity mode and performance RT have cut scenes set at 30 fps. For instance going in and out of your garage is running at 30 fps in both fidelity and performance RT, however performance mode it will run at 60. Personally i would not bother with the other 2 modes unless you are taking pictures or something. Performance mode for gta online is the way to go imo.

      Thankfully with VRR on series X as far as performance you won't notice it if you just run it in 60 fps. I am not saying it's acceptable but just that the performance is fine with VRR.

    This game doesn't hold up. Originally developed for the Xbox 360/PS3 memory limitations it's scale is compromised. Look at all of the buildings that are for appearance only which you can't enter and explore. It's like a facade movie set.
