Seeing the Kurt Busch news, while I’m stoked his racing career isn’t cut short, makes me more sad at how Jr’s career ended. While Jr got a proper farewell season, the 2016 concussion ended up being the deciding factor to end his career. Makes me think if he had fewer concussions or none in his career, how much longer he could be racing with us. Get one more for the gang, Kurt. You deserve it.
First time watching Chilli Bowl action. Took a little bit of reading to get up to speed on format and understand exactly what these cars are, but I am enjoying it now that I understand the what and why.
MBM has pretty much 3 options here in my opinion. 1. Xfinity or Truck Ford Guy 2. #LetTimmyRace (Timmy Hill) 3. One of their other drivers from last year (Bilicki,Finchum come to mind)
You are right Eric, that it must be of a concern to NASCAR, if they would let a driver who is marginal, into the Daytona 500 where the speeds are at some of the highest that these cars reach. Also with a few recent crashes, while the catch fences did their job very well, a car could lose control and hit those fences either with more force or in a 1 in a million position and actually (gasp) get through the fence into the fans! I think that Mike might have been spared hurting himself or others, even though I'm sure it is disappointing that he will not race at Daytona. I think he should check with either ARCA or Xfnity teams to try to get a ride, get more up-to-date experience at selected "easier" and slower race tracks, if he is serious about coming back into racing and then he might be approved. Personally every time I watch the Dayton 500, when the cars are in a big pack and I can sense that the "big one" is just one mistake away, my concern and stress level is up! Imagine what executives from NASCAR must be feeling with their fingers crossed that no accident happens and with nearly the entire world watching! Stressful!!! But still I love watching that race! @scottholbert2742 if she had ever driven anything but the worst equipment in the field, I might agree with you, but we'll never know what she could actually do. As it was, she was competing with her own team, with second-hand tires and engines that were down anywhere from 50-200 horsepower, in a truck that she couldn't really push because they couldn't afford to replace it. But... she was out there every week and refused to start-and-park. I would have loved to see what she could have done in a decent ride.

How about Helio Castranoves with zero nascar experience being cleared to enter this years Daytona 500? NASCAR is pulling this BS on Mike Wallace because of his comments on BLM which got him suspended a few years ago. It has nothing to do with talent or ability.

True story about the Chili Bowl: in 2017 I was at Texas for the June truck race, during their driver autograph session. I told C-Bell (who is now my favorite Cup driver) that I correctly picked the last 5 Chili Bowl winners (The late Bryan Clauson, Rico, and C-Bell) He said, you picked me to win the Chili Bowl? Pick me for the next 5 years then! And I think he went on to win the next 2 or 3 in a row before Larson finally got his. All the best racing talent runs the Chili Bowl. Tony Stewart said it best: it's easier to win a Cup race than it is just to make the A Main at the Chili Bowl.
While I feel bad for Mike, we need 65 year old, long since retired drivers running at Daytona like we need 80 plus year olds serving in the United States Congress. 🤔

Denying Mike Wallace was the right call. If I might make a suggestion, Mike Wallace (and his contemporaries) should consider making the rounds visiting local short track venues. Here in central Virginia we've lost two tracks. I've sure the remaining tracks would benefit Mike's star power to draw in the fans.
Every time I hear of an older driver getting back in the car, I think of Neil Bonnet. It's not just getting in a stock car, but the Next Gen car drives differently than the old cars. Look at Jimmy Johnson's struggles. He's a 7 time champion, and I'm not even sure he's finished a race in the LMC 84 car. This is the right decision for Mike Wallace.
Mike Wallace has won at daytona 3 different times but none have been in Cup. So your facts could be more accurate. If theres ageism at the upper end, Nascar should be doing the same for younger driver's whom wreck everything but the pace car...

Couldn't Mike Wallace just run the ARCA race to get his approval? I know that's always been the cheat/shortcut to do so, since basically anyone can run an ARCA race with money. Even if it can't get him approved for the 500 the literal same week, it could help him get the necessary approval to maybe run Talladega in the spring then run his 500 attempt the year after.
The call made by NASCAR in regards to Mike Wallace is the right one even though I do feel bad for him. I think that NASCAR might of been looking back to the late 1970s when the old Sportsman Division (The precursor to the modern Xfinity Series) had drivers racing at Daytona who had very little to no racing experience overall let alone at Daytona and that caused very serious wrecks that caused drivers to have serious injuries. Yes I know that Mike Wallace has a lot of experience but he hasn’t raced in the Cup Series for a decade and his last NASCAR starts were in the Xfinity Series in 2020 on road courses. That is a problem when even a mistake by a very experienced and talented driver can cause a big wreck during a race at Daytona and now add a driver who hasn’t raced on a super speedway for a very long time and that can cause major problems on track. So it’s very understandable that NASCAR made the decision that it made in regards to Mike Wallace.
So Mike Wallace one of the better draft racers out there no matter what equipment he’s in gets denied but folk who get in the field and lap before you know it get approved head scratcher
If not Mike Wallace, why not Kenny Wallace? The Herminator has certainly kept up his racing bona fides, might be able to access the same money Mike was (i.e. Mike’s money) , and he’s super popular with fans. MBM might even be able to run a GoFundMe. Would you contribute? I would. That said, I think Harrison Burton, Corey Lajoie, and even Kurt Busch are all viable options, sponsorships pending.

Well unlike Kurt, Jr had been piling up the injuries throughout his career so I'm not surprised he retired in 2016

Poor internal communication at NASCAR is being blamed on Brandon and Mike.

The call made by NASCAR in regards to Mike Wallace is the right one even though I do feel bad for him. I think that NASCAR might of been looking back to the late 1970s when the old Sportsman Division (The precursor to the modern Xfinity Series) had drivers racing at Daytona who had very little to no racing experience overall let alone at Daytona and that caused very serious wrecks that caused drivers to have serious injuries.
Yes I know that Mike Wallace has a lot of experience but he hasn’t raced in the Cup Series for a decade and his last NASCAR starts were in the Xfinity Series in 2020 on road courses. That is a problem when even a mistake by a very experienced and talented driver can cause a big wreck during a race at Daytona and now add a driver who hasn’t raced on a super speedway for a very long time and that can cause major problems on track. So it’s very understandable that NASCAR made the decision that it made in regards to Mike Wallace.

So Mike Wallace one of the better draft racers out there no matter what equipment he’s in gets denied but folk who get in the field and lap before you know it get approved head scratcher

If not Mike Wallace, why not Kenny Wallace? The Herminator has certainly kept up his racing bona fides, might be able to access the same money Mike was (i.e. Mike’s money) , and he’s super popular with fans. MBM might even be able to run a GoFundMe. Would you contribute? I would.
That said, I think Harrison Burton, Corey Lajoie, and even Kurt Busch are all viable options, sponsorships pending.
